Finally listened to all the new tunes by rjay, Sam, and Vijay. The geography of these three tunes took me in three different directions, but they were all equally fun trips. Sorry about not being more specific. That I enjoyed them should say something.
Regarding problems with geocities. I've found a workaround which I'll share in case others want to know. When clicking on rjay's or Divakar's links, the URL begins as:
us.share.geocities.com/
When I change this to www.geocities.com and leave the rest of the URL intact, the song immediately starts to download for me. I hope this works so for others too.

Sridhar,IR,mahati,Udhaya - Thanks for taking the time to listen and write feedback. This was just a fun exercise initiated by Kictcha and Udhaya's lyrics. I hope it continues to bring out more interesting ideas and different perspectives.
IR- I made an exception to sing just to keep up with the spirit here and what everyone was doing, as its just for fun. Otherwise, if it were anything more serious, would prefer someone else to add more value via rendition to whatever tunes I come up with :-)But thanks for the comments.

With geocities, rather than just clicking on the link, copying and pasting the link in the address bar works. Just FYI, in case you tried clicking and it didnt open.

Rjay just listened to "Unseen Lotus". I immensely liked the way how the brass instrument piece just like that came out off the blue and merged with the rest of the piece. A Miles Davis-like feel :-)

Rjay listened to Unseen Lotus! finally.
Chord Prog. goes with cycle rules., great!,
and Please! ... :) Get a good sound module, it is about time. eg:the electric piano sound (gm5) is quite old, will not give the impact of this chord progression to most common ears.
Though I found the trumpet tone to be fine and smooth. Like many here, Musically I also found the trumpet work to be quite interesting to listen, it did sound complex, was good to play on a keyB.
My tip here when anyone does such a score for wind, keep the breath range in mind, I belive you would have considered it. Just think, and see infact feel , how will a natural trumpet artist play this?,
muchu vangi...asthmala mudiya kudathu..:)
out of interest,
I also wrote a percussion lines for this trumpet part,
good job, keep them coming!.again! get a module asap..:))

Wow so much variety! You guys sound better than the junk trashed by cine composers. Vijay's composition was fresh with lots of energy. The tune very well suited for the lyrics, and nice rythmic variations kept interest alive.
I have heard MS comps before. He should be exploring more within the tune as shown by 3 charanams! Quite contrasing to Vijay's comp I should say. Vijay's was close to the current cine thing - but is that because the lyrics went only that much? Whatever said, both Vijay and MS give us some very melodious tunes. Well done!
RJ, I am amazed by your composition. You have applied your chord learning very beautifully. Like everyone else I liked the trumpet solo. I did not like your electric piano played like guitar strumming (rhumba style I guess). Well, its ok for a few bars, but when the real guitar comes in, the EP backing is little too 'heavy'. Also, the trumpet solo (sure was great) - I agree with Srikanth. I would imagine it would be quite difficult to play this live! Apart from that a breather (or pause) makes the phrases stand out - u get more clarity. A little more dynamics in volume levels would also made it little interesting. Now generally, when you end a composition, it would be nice to hear all the instruments you have used come together in some form (standard coda). I didnt hear the ending of your comp. If you brought the trumpet back in the end then it is what I would like to hear.

IR, Mahati
Thanks to both of you.
Mahati
MFS is a good thing, sometimes. I truly appreciate your comments about my tune. I agree with you in that the tune sounded more like kalyani janyam than neethimathi janyam. Although the notes might be right for hamsanadham, the feel of the song isn't. I can only wish that I do it better next time. But you should keep your comments coming.
I still have to listen to all the audio links. I hope I can listen to vijay's tune tonight.

Swamiji, thanks for the comments. Lyrics actually went upto 2 charanams, but I had just tuned the first one alone. This was just a small exercise some of us were attempting, for the same lyrics written by Udhaya.

Kaumudi:
you do not have to do it "better" next time. I sense some kind of a feeling in all your posts which mean "sorry guys.. I have let you down since it is not in pure hamsanadham". We did not ask for hamsanaadham. We asked for a nice tune. You gave a very nice one. Anya swaras or anya padha prayogam - we do not care. You are doing a great job in making light tunes. Just keep it up !

No new midis yet. I have a few I sequenced for the shows, but they need to be converted to GM. I will do that when I get the time.

Oh, no, I didn't mean to sound like that. I was only responding to the question regarding the raga-feel there is in my tune. But regardless of that, a tune is a tune - it doesn't matter if it is a raga medley, a raga with anyaswaras or just a raga without any impurities!
Did you get my email?
