This is my question....Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Kavitha Krishnamurti,Sonu Nigam - All sing in Tamil. But their Tamil is really very bad. Are Tamils deaf, tolerant, or have no PERUMAI in their own language? Is there really a shortage of good, tamil-speaking singers? Or is this really Tamil Inferiority Complex?

Indhu,
DHCP pertains to networking fundes where the computer is assigned an IP address dynamically when it bootsup and handshaked the network.
we got a lecture abt it when we accused 2 people posting from the same IP address as 1 person.
As to why, NA ( Naaz ahmed) is NA (not available), wud matter to both genders? its your call... each of you have assigned different genders to NA!
sort of a run-time assignment.... I suppose(like DHCP) :-)

See above :-)0 Was sitting in the same room. Now NA is away at the univ and I have the computer all to myself for the next 2hrs at least. BTW - I have no computer in Mumbai. So don't be killjoys!

My bluff was called alright. My male housemate was here - and I was a bit nervous that I would run into someone I knew here - and hence I referred to him as a "she". He is quite angry with me and has left the house calling me "unnecessarily stupid and precautious". I am the one that has to get back to Mumbai and not he. So very easy for him to think it all childish and stupid.
Can you guys let it drop for now and can we move on to the topic here? I feel very dumb. Podhuma?

indhu,
if u notice carefully.. no one said anything! i guess the posts by u (and him).. assumed that some questions wud be asked and so posted more than required....
we have also moved from cities in india to US and Canada...we have seen our sisters do the same for education... we are quite aware of the scenario that exists.
never mind Kathir if he asks
"my sister lived in Canada. its not so mandatory to have roommates that u can go to the extent of being roomates with 2 boys and a chineese girl and b.t.w u can get lot of desi girl room mates"
bcoz kathir doesnt know what he is talking about!
I guess you are running this over your mind more than required to try and keep up your image in this forum with a story that barely fits. there is no image as such for anyone in this forum. we are just bodyless entitiess with alphabets and numbers that represent us in this forum. a.k.a no one cares (b.t.w the story doesnt gel either)
chill out and continue posting..
now more smart alecs like nedumudi_venu will ask
"why is she talking about fights with room mates etc in this forum! is this necessary? is she trying to digress or is (s)he working under the assumption that the DF'ers will get distracted by the fact that she is with a boy room mate and not investigate if its actually 1 person or 2!"
sara_vedi wud ask
" did she think compromise on a girl living boy roomate image as a sacrifice rather than letting others know that there is only 1 person instead of 2."
please no further questions! lets start new threads and carry on with life....

NCR,
What about the other recording companies in Andhra...are they supportive of native talent in anyway? Or has this phenomenon taken over the southern music industry in all states? Do Malayalees also feel this trend in their film music...I only know thta this is more and more the case in Tamil. Can you provide any examples of recent songs, I would like very much to check them on the net. Thanks.

Fear is the Key. If my story doesn't gel then that is quite OK. I am glad to have clarified things in my own muddled way. I do have a good self-image, but I have also met my share of ignorant indians in north america who can't wait to carry tales back home.Yes I do have 3 housemates. And 2 happen to be unmarried and male.
Thanks for seeing why I might be put in a defensive situation.

Coming back to topic after discussing on personalities and DHCPs..,
I still have some enthu left in me, also I am jobless..
I have had a chance to talk to few MDs (i am not going to name them, i am saving my A@@ here) on this issue. They clearly say they do what the directors ask them do.
If it is a private album, record companies clearly dictate whom to sing and not to sing.
The shocking thing I heard from one of my friend, who approched a record company in India, they simply want music with raised audio levels for drum, percussions and bass all other level must be kept low it seems. The most shocking thing is they want singers who sing tamil in the a "Mordern way" aka off key and making a intentional mistakes on certain tamil words
When I talked to the record companies, their side of the story is they do this based on market demands, I feel we need to belive these guys. After all they are raw business people who invest to earn. They clearly study the market, they know where they can earn, they know what is in demand.
So I will the blame it on the people , why the hell we buy, why the hell we encourage such things, Tell me one good tamil speaking VJ in sun to moon to mercury to pluto TVs in tamil nadu. They come and go every day, people welcome them, the crazy crowed built a temple for one of the VJ, I read it in Dinakaran few weeks ago..this is the status. In a nut shell We tamils dont know to speak tamil properly., improvement is required here
this "mumbai mogam" cry is just out of anger. It works well politically.

jlg - anger can be a source of empowerment, at times. Complacency on the other hand is sure death. Whether the "mumbai" angle is politically motivated or not is debatable - but what you suggest (from your insider sources) seems to be just as agenda based. The whole chicken and egg thing, is reworked as do the people want or are the people made to want...and so on. So let's gripe about declining Tamil anger then. How can tamil "improvement" be acheived when what current generation of tamils are raised on "intentional mistakes" and "modern way" tamil. Who made it fashionable to be fullofcrap?
Be angry. Be very angry.

------------------------------------
What about diction? You have used Sukwinder Singh and Udit Narayan extensively in Tamil songs and people have accepted them without reservation?
A : Here again I go by what I like. I reason that while people listen to Khaled and not understand a word other than "didi, didi" - does that make it a song in praise of your dear sister?(laughs)- people sitll liked the tune. I guess people liked the happiness in his voice and in listening to the song, they themselves felt happy. Udit was my Khaled to teh Tmail industry. And once that clicked in 'Kadhalan', I was encouraged to use him more and more. Once people like the tune, they forgive small transgressions in diction and pronunciation.
But Sadhana Sargam did ge the pronunciation right in "Alai Payuthey", didn't she?
A: Yeah, basically you've got to be patient. And technology is a wonderful thing. The computer can fix many things.
You mean punch in...
A : Not really. In Sadhana's case, she actually learned the whole song. Why, she even sang it at a New Year's concert without looking at the lyric sheet! It doesn't matter where a singer hails from as long as he or she can sing well. Look at some of the singers in the south. P. Susheela and SPB both hail from Andhra Pradesh and are equally well accepted in Tamil and Kannada. Or take Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan, who are basically Tamilian, but are doing a great job in Hindi. As long as you don't mess around with the lyrics and work hard, I think you'll be fine. Push as fas as you can for perfection, beyond that....(laughs)
But the use of unusual voices has become a trend, hasn't it?
A : Sometimes when I listen to certain songs, I think we are setting the wrong trend. Sometimes you can't make head or tail of the lyrics and that's bad. The words convey a certain meaning and you have to respect that.
------------------------
Funny, dont you think, how on the one hand he thinks that he is setting the wrong trend and on the other hand he thinks what Udit does is a "small transgression" which is OK..
This is the state of TFM in a nutshell..

indhu,
no! that does not answer my question!
what is the difference between people wanting and people made to want.
what is your definition of "made"? and how do you think the the people who are not "made to want" arise from!

Bharath,
See intervew with ARR above for a more elaborate answer. Keep giving them Udit (happiness personified) and tamils will overlook the (apparently) minor trangressions. That's the made to want (and I don't think they are really a minority.) what people want - from the many postings here I have been informed that there is a sense of dissatisfaction among tamils in tamil nadu (and even abroad) that they don't believe their voices are being heard regarding lyrics, pronunication, the constant imposition of sucks, sads and company...could this group really be "what people want?" Maybe.
What ARR forgets to mention in his interview is that Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan and Kavitha Krishnamoorthy did not step parade their tamil "trangressions" til he came along. They sang in Hindi - which was, for all purposes, their bread, butter and mother tongue. Had the northies seen even a bit of this very cute "transgression" in hindi, that is so welcome in tamil, they would have labelled them "madarasi" and sent them packing.
As for perfection - well, let's not go there is what ARR is really saying.
