  LA VIOLETERA is a later version of LA PALOMA which is older. Because LA PALOMA is a Spanish FOLK song whose origin or its original composer is not known, even though some people refer some names.

  You've listed songs which seem very familiar, but just that little bit elusive--!!
  
  Anyway, here's what I can recall immediately:
  
  3.Sagayam yaarum allada, nee thaane nin sagayam- Jeevitha Nowka-1951- MD- V Dakshinamoorthi
  (This is based on a lovely Rafi song- Suhaani raath dal chuki, na jaane--)
  
  4.Duraiye, ilamai paaraai, kathaigal kelaai- is from, I think 'Kathanayaki'-1955. MD-GR. Easily among Jamunarani's best songs. What a voice!
  
  5.Kalai thenoorum-Illara Jothi-1954- MD-GR
  
  6.Kani mozhi maathe paar- is I think from 'Rajambal'-1951 MD-MS Gnanamani. The male voice is perhaps VN Sundaram.
  
  7. Un Kannil aadum- Bhoologa Rambai-1958-MD-CN Pandurangan

  Is it possible the first song is from `Raththa Paasam' starring TKS and Anjali Devi?
  Do you remember the starting lines of the AMR solo `Ithuve Raththa Paasam' from the same movie?

  'samarasam ulAvum idamE' is in 'rambaiyin kAdhal'. That movie also has other good songs by SG such as 'bagavAnE maunam' and 'kaNdadhai kEttadhai'.

  SK: You got that right. Its by TR Pappa(correct me if I am wrong). I had confused the movie name with "Boologha Rambai". Is that the movie which had Anjali Devi, M N Nambiar and Gemini Ganesan in leading roles? or is it Rambaiyin Kadhal?

  You got the `Panpaadi varum' song right. That is exactly the one I was referring to. It may or may not be from Yaanai Valartha Vaanambadi, I haven't a slightest idea.
  
  About the other song, let me throw in few more lines:

  I managed to see a part of the old film, "Iravum Pagalum" yesterday. The MD is TR Pappa. I saw a song "Iravu Varum Pagalum Varum". The tune, the picturization reminds me of the superb Hindi song "Suhana Safar Aur Yeh Mausam Haseen" from Madhumathi. Anyone else see the similarity?
  
  If I remember right, the same movie has another song "Irandhavanai Sumandhavanum Irandhuttan" which also sounds somewhat similar.
  
  I stopped posting my email address to the forum when my email addr got trawled from here and I was flooded with spam. I just saw another discussion group giving email addrs that can be understood by humans. For dot, com, try the rhyming words e.g. if my addr is foo@bar.com, I may make that foo inside bar bot rom - hopefully, humans can understand that but the email trawlers cannot.   The other nice song in this movie is "Ullatthin Kadhavugal Kangalada"
  
  These two songs and "Iravu Varum" mentioned in the prev posting sound somewhat similar, dont they?
  
  I beleive this is the first film for Jaishankar, the heroine Vasantha and Suruli Rajan (Suruli is an adiyal to Ramdas, the robber chief). Can anyone confirm this?

  iRandhavanai and iravu varum have the same meter and similarities at the beginning. iRandhavanai is sung by actor Asokan. He actually sings it as 'eRandhavanai sumandhavanum eRandhuttAn', the proper slack way of singing it! In the movie also he sings the song. It is indeed the first movie for Jaishankar and Vasantha. I am not sure if it is the first movie for Suruli Rajan. The movie is not that interesting, I think. 'kAlai nEram oruvan vandhAn, kattippidiththAn, muththam koduththAn' is another very good song in the movie. TR Pappa did a great job!
