6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!
Source :HinduTimes

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

"The songs do not gell into the narration and the music of A.R.Rahman sounds more like Mexican pop."
That's the verdict!

Maverick:
--- I guess they would have meant it in a way that when a complete masala movie like Gilli succeeds, movies like AE should also be made to succeed.
I don't think so. Just go back to old responses and read them (ofcourse if you have freetime). They are just saying that only masala movies are appreciated by tamil people. go and watch gillie and arul are their remarks. Autograph was a huge hit, how come these people forget that so quickly.
--- When audiences make a movie like Gilli a big hit, it sounds a bit funny when they start to question about some small things being overloked here and there in AE movie trying to find faults.
I haven't seen both gillie and AE yet, so no comments. But I always think Mani is just overrated. After watched nenjaththai killathe recently, it strengthened my opinion more. He has copied lot of stuff from it for his Mouna ragam. Though he recycled Karthik's character from his earlier movie, I thought his Mouna ragam was a genuine one but not anymore. I am thinking of doing a write-up soon comparing these two movies. If you get a chance, watch Nenjaththai killathe, you will understand.
--- And again, when the audiences make only those movies like Gilli, Arul, Sami as huge hits , it looks as if the audiences are dumb and prefer only those 100% masala movies and does not like immi alavu of experimentation done.
I disagree with you. Tamil film industry is at its best for the last couple of years. Interesting movies masala, middle cinema doesn't matter are hits if the presentation is good. Ramana, Dhool, Kakka kakka, Kathal kondein, Sami, thiruda thirudi, pithamagan, virumandi, autograph, gillie were hits. (I haven't watched sami, thiruda thirudi and gillie, so I don't know about their presentation) You can clearly see off-beat middle cinema type movies also winning. I don't understand how come people claim such a lame excuse. Only couple of months back Autograph was released and a huge huge hit. Lots of masala movies, love stories bombed at the box office like adithadi, gambeeram, arasu, parai, parasuram, e20u18, KKS, kurumbu etc etc... My point is if the movie is interesting, does not matter what type or experiment you do, people will watch it.
--- Vijay fans yelaam avaroda every movie hype up panni 'padam super, 10 vaati paakalaam' nnu cut out vekkum bothu whats wrong in MR fans hype for a better movie, AE?
I don't care about vijay fans attitudes but just hype will not work anymore does not matter who the director or banner is. Lots of young promising directors are winning in tamil (Gautam, Murugadoss, Bala, Dharani, Selvaragavan, cheran) that is a healthy trend. I wish this trend continues!

K.Viswanathan knew the knack to make a classics like Shankarabharanam and Salangai oli and they reaped massive money.
Now if that iterates anything like KV is bettter than any tamil director, I'm so sorry about it.
Yes, Autograph was a huge hit but what about other movies of cheran i don't remember the title - guys kidnap the CM and finally he changes, nobody cared to watch it. It was a very good movie.
Box-office trends are sometimes unpredictable.
If you are hellbent in giving your customary titles to Ratnam like "Makkubhai" or "Thundubhai" go on - have fun.
And you think Dhool is differently presented? Boy! you are on a mission.
Ramana - a prof comes out of the examination hall for a slugfest with 20 odd people, he later punches every guy at the corporation office - very innovative and professor like indeed.
Peace.

Jacky,
The Cheran movie with the CM was "Desiya Geetham". Almost all of Cheran's movies are good.
Nattamai,
From the list you have mentioned in the end, Cheran is the only one who is actually very good.
Gautam: His directorial skills are pretty sad. In fact, Minnale was one of the most weakly directed movies. Kaakha Kaakha was well-taken. But, it still wasnt a great movie.
Murugadass: Isnt he the guy who made Dheena as well?!! Ramana was nothing but a typical Shankar-like movie. Gentleman/Indian set off so many spawns like Citizen, Tamizhan, Ramana, etc. But they lack the subtlety of Shankar's movies. (of course, Shankar also can be a bit more refined)
Dharani: He knows how to dish out a typical "masala movie", but thats about it. Gillie was just a remake.
Selvaraghavan: He is talented..but needs to refine his moviemaking skills a lot. 7GRC should be a good acid-test for him (to see whether he has got out of the Kadhal Kondaen hangover)
Bala: I would put him in the same league as Selvaraghavan, albeit a bit darker.
Please do not compare Mani with these people.
And I dont see how Dharani's movies becoming hits is an healthy trend for Tamil cinema. It actually pullls us down.

FNO, I'm changing my username to craaze. This would have removed red eyes on me for using singer-rapper Blaaze's name. I feel it's not right for me to use it in a Tamil forum(his name) though in other places, it's my Favourite, even my email id is trail_blaaze. I just found it stylish and new.So from rahmanian-Blaaze-craaze.
Ok, now back to AE review. Well, this is not a review but it's a continuation of the characterisation introduction in the movie. The review will be posted after the 3 charax.
...childishly lookin scared....
ARJUN---SIDDHARTH
When watching Maddy's role, I had a feeling it was something like Virumandi.. prison scenes and Bharathiraja himself.was very much like some in VM. But AE is no comparison to VM.
You feel the movie finally gets a life with Sidd's character. I mean, after brought to a Village ambience and later gradually into Students scenes and finally something lively(kind of everyday seeings).
***SPOILER START*** Sidd gets down the train after kissing a girl in a compartment and promising to marry her. The character as his bro has done a good job in terms of making us laugh. Sidd isn't really gonna marry her. Then he gets down and hugs his dad. Then comes the gal and hugs him! He lies to his dad that he was studying for IAS. Song 5: Fanah - This song is unexpectedly picturised as a discotheque song. And this is where he meets Trish. He tells her about his application for US visa and Trish tells him that shes going to Sivakasi and get married. He gets her number and calls her, they go to Coffeeday, and as some reviewers said, the dialogue showed Mani's youth as in "Kurumbutthanam" dialogues.. SMS>> Sat beach pohalama?? Song 6: Hey Goodbye Nanba... This is the last song in the movie but the rest of the movie isn't left bland.Watch it to find out how the BGM and extra songs are used. They find that they love each other but will they really live together? Trish leaves him and Munna (hmm..finally i could not resist...Sidd was so artificial aft calling him munna:) chases after her, asks for Surya's bike to follow her. Then,BANG!
***END OF SPOILER .. ALL GATHER HERE NOW***
The rest of the movie should be watched. The review..hmm.. I will try to post it in soon. Actually as I said, I was to review in 3 versions, but it wasn't possible to review non-spoiler b4 writing spoilers, SO i decided to write it aft doing this. OK TATA BYE BYE SALAM NAMASTE :-)

Good opeaning in the metro's,little impact in the interiors(Meaning UP,Bihar,Punjab etc).I don't think Mani was ever targetting that section of the audience.overall avg at the BO.

Nattamai,
I have seen Nenjathai Killathe-it's about Suhasini who loves Mohan but gets married to prataph Pothen. She finds it difficult to Live with him that too when Mohan comes to stay in the same apartment complex after getting married to a polio afflicted girl. She decides to separate&in the climax, has a change of heart&reunites with him in the airport.(if there are any mistakes, plz excuse)Story wise it's similar to Mouna ragam but the treatment&presentation is very very very different. In fact Mounaragam according to me is a much better film&i will see it even today, something which cannot be said of NK which looks dated. This is not to belittle Mahendran whose 'udhiri pookal'will always remain a classic. But just because of similarities in storyline,if you say MR is an overrated director, then most directors are overrated because every film will have some similarity to some other film, afterall how many new stories can you come up with, that too in relation based themes.I still maintain that you have a bad habit of pulling down people with a good reputation. If you feel MR is overrated,is a bad director, has lost his skills(u also seem to feel the same about Kamal)fine,ur definitely entitled to your views but to act as if ur words are the gospel truth is taking things to ridiculous heights.
