looking at hihi postings,bayama irruku
now i dont think I will say I know tamil
ennalamo sollarar.
but the song musically appeals to me,its melodious to my ears and soothes my heart.
the arrangement not even once interrupts the mood of the song but only enhances it
as a listener i am pleased and satisfied but cant be sure of religious feeling of the songs since I no nothing on this.
But to me the above qualities itself evokes spiritual feeling,at ease thats my meditation.
This song does just that for me
Just my 2 cents,I am no expert on tamil or pasurams nor on music either

Srikanth,
You were suppose to post your classical piece that you recorded with Sundar on Thiruppavai. Is it not ready yet? We are curiously waiting for it. Your score and Sundar's singing is very addictive and keep us to listen repeatedly. Elle is hot! Sundar has got out a great life to that song. Your orchestration adds a very great feel. Appreciate your teamwork, You guys have a great chemistry of understanding. How exactly you guys record? Is it that, you teach sundar the tune and make him sing or give an outline and get him explore artistically and creatively? How fast does he deliver, how much does he meet or exceed your expectation? What is Sridhar's contribution? Perhaps, Same question to you too, Sridhar. Do you teach your music and let singers, sing? Is that how you record with Sundar, chandra(not sure about the name, but she sang your melody on kalyani).. I have read somewhere that, Singers needs to feel the music to be more innovative, creative to generate great emotions. I could observe both you guys have generated that out of sundar. I have always had this question in my mind since, MSV-TMS, IR-SPB, ARR-Hariharan..and now you guys... :-) Informative replies are appreciated.

Radhika, TMS use to spend 1 hr to pronounce the lyrics with emotions (no tune, before he learns the tune from MD). He understands the mood of the song and will express the lyrics to that emotion. Once he is satisfied, He then sits with the MDs to learn the tune. This practice has helped him to render his songs with best emotions. To some extent, SPB does the same - ( Courtesy: Srikanth's detailed minutes after his recording with SPB ; It was in this form, almost 1yr back). May be you should practice that way to generate better emotions. Emotion is one key element that you might need to focus on to gain big success in your singing career. If I may suggest one more point for your success, It would be on your voice culturing. May be some singers can explain this term better to you. From listener's perception, Your voice is very thin & little nasal ( Please do not get me wrong - its just my opinion) and I'm sure deep training in music & practice should help you overcome. Infact, Courtesy is Ms.Anuradha Sriram again. She vividly explained in a recent interview that, her training & practice has helped her to reach a level what she is. She admitted that her voice is thin & little nasal. SHe overcame it with her skills and style. She was always following spb's style and applied it with her voice to capitalize her position. may be this pointer might also let you assess for your improvement. Good luck. I could be wrong in my opinion but hope you take it in right spirits.

Ajith,
I try not to take constructive criticism in the wrong way. I am constantly working on improving myself by taking up Hindustani music training.
However, i would like to add something here. I am not yet up there in the ranks of TMS or SPB or Anuradha Sriram for the simple reason that i dont have their level of training and expertise. So, i think it is a little unfair to compare me with them at this point.
Taking into consideration, this was my very first time in a studio setting with mikes et al , i delivered the song in the way that Jay and I perceived it. We understood the song to be a soft melody and i tried to deliver it in such a way.
Apart from the fact that i liked this song, it has given me the required experience i needed in singing originally composed songs. It is also my small way of encouraging upcoming composers like Jay to make more good music like all the other singers like Sundar are doing.
I am sure this experience will only help me to do even better with my future songs.
Anyway, thanks for your candid comments.

Ajith, i can just give an outline here,
Basically I first sketch the entire song with the backgrounds, I play the notes quite clearly on the piano. Same for elle also , however I do give freedom to singers, no harm in adding sugar to the pie. However I keep my control to make sure it is in tune with what I composed. for a singer like Sunder who has many ideas, I let him sing many things however without his knowledge in 1 of the take i will make him sing what I want he will get it out automatically since he has explored the score totally by then, often that will be final. Regaring sridhar contribution is totally different and very important for the final product, basically I get carried away, :) if i hear kedaram i will want to show a 6 part kedaram string section, however sridhar makes sure that fits in here, basically a QA or CMM level 5 certificate is given by sridhar. a team work towards common goal. make the song best. everyone suggests parts and ideas, true a very good chemistry and mutal respect is required, by gods grace we have it and
it is always a good musical weekend for us :)
please send me an email srikanth@srikanthd.com i like to take it off line, other please pardon me.

for radhika & jay's team effort,
in 2003, the first thing in a song is the voice and the feel for the song, radhika hits a home run here. Pronounciation is a factor that can be cultivated in short period of time.she will get it when she gains the experience.,
I was moved the humming she has done in that track. Remarkable effort. Kudos the composer Jay and the singer radhika.

Srikanth,
I will send out a separate mail to you soon. Its really great to hear about the art of composing. Composing is one art that requires strong focus, determination, patience in-addition to skill, knowledge on international music, human-emotions etc.. I appreciate composers for their distinct quality of being composers(right blend of above). You guys are taking music to a great standards with lots of passion and focus. Iam really happy for you guys. I will send you a mail soon. BTW, Are you uploading that song soon as well? If iam right, QA concept exists in western music and I have heard that, people like ilayaraja, AR Rahman etc have their close crew to do QA stuff. Some one like Praveen mani, Narasimhan(ilayaraja).. Again, i might be wrong... :-)
Radhika,
Music should be a winner. Appreciate your sportive spirit. Understand that everyone goes through the learning curve in each of their new effort. Iam glad that this experience will help you grow your talent and let you appreciate your strengths and let you workaround your weakness. Enjoy singing and continue your musical explorations. Good luck to you.

Dear Jay K & Radhika,
As i was listening to your song again and again i just feel that lead instruments in first and second intercludes volume level should be lowered a bit, i tried listening thru headphones, pc speakers and hifi system too.... but the results are the same.
And its my opition only.

Ajith,
I appreciate your feedback. There are some good points that Radhika can look into.
The song needed a very soft voice and thats exactly what she delivered and also what I intended when I processed the vocal after recording. I think a true quality of a singer is when he or she does whats best for the particular song in focus.
Shahul:
hmm..you might have a valid point there. lets see.
Jay.

I am tempted to make a few remarks on the comments made by 'hihi' ! To comment on the rendering of Srikanth is one thing, but to comment on Ariyakudi and Soumya is another thing. He seems to belong to a group of people who have the mind set of an ‘ideology’, and who interpret everything within the framework of that ideology. Anyway, would he be kind enough to enlighten us as to what kind of difficulties Ariyakudi had or why Soumya was a ‘torture’ after listening to ‘5 songs’?
I personally find Srikanth’s rendering not to my taste, since I am conditioned to the great poetical work differently, but I wouldn’t make such remarks as ‘leave such works to the Othuvars’. For, our tradition didn’t develop in bits and pieces; it sure was plastic enough for a musical creation (the work is not just a ‘poem’ to read) to expand itself for the wider horizons of the greater culture it belonged to.
