A good singer and a friend of mine, Raja Govindarajan, met S.P.B at Chennai a couple of months back. During their conversation, SPB mentioned that he doesn't remember/have a lot of old rare songs that he has sung and would love to recollect them and have them in his collection. Raja then told SPB about newtfmpage and Song Of The Day section and the discussions that take place there. He then offered to give SPB a set of old songs.
Fast Forward to today; I prepared a set of 41 songs, and a 90 page booklet on the songs. All these songs are old SOTDs and the booklet contained the discussions on these songs. SPB came to the Bay Area today for a concert at Hayward. I met him at the backstage before the concert with Udhaya. We gave him the CDs and the booklet and talked with him for a few minutes. SPB was very courteous and thanked me several times. I was surprised that he made time to to even see us and accept this, just half an hour before the concert. I told him that we have a lot of knowledgeable people and huge collection of his songs, so if he wanted more we could give him whatever information he wanted.
The booklet that I gave him is here: http://www.dhool.com/sotd/spb.pdf .
The 3 CDs that I gave him included 4-5 more songs that are not in this list, like 'vaa ponmayilE', 'malarE ennenna kOlam' and 'thErOttam'.
Hopefully, if SPB goes through the CDs and the text, he will be impressed with the selection and would get back to me or RajaG with his comments.
An Exclusive Interview with SPB!

hi bb,
This idea of people in newtfmpage posting the questions that they want to ask and you guys picking the best one and asking the musician sounds great.. can we extend this to some other accessible musicians like Vani j, MSV etc etc.??

interesting development below for interesting question:
Latest Piece of Work
The place: Spectral Harmony Studio, Andheri Mumbai; dates from 30th July to 12th August, 2004.
The occasion: Pyarelalji and Pascal Heni working together
Old Bollywood hits are being recorded all over again. Is this really news? Or is it a sickening phenomenon that’s sadly taking place all over? Why is Pyarelalji out of all people part and parcel of a project of this kind?
Pascal Heni, a young and talented French boy is singing the songs! He has an excellent voice and any amazing sense of pitch and feelings. The accent has a slight French fragrance of course, but in general is extremely pleasant. The idea of doing a project of this kind is Pascal’s very own and he has come along with his own producer and engineer who will carry and congregate the multi track recording back in France. The potential market they are probably looking at is Europe including France.
Pascal has selected the songs on his own and the selection has not been influenced in anyway by Pyarelalji. In fact only two songs are Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s. The rest are Shanker-Jaikishen, Salil Choudhary, Kalyanji-Anandji and others. The female parts are being sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Jaspinder Narula and others.

aaha...what a splendid "get-together" that was.
Kudos to RajaG, Udhaya, bb and all those contributed to the questions.
I wish you all physically present with him and taking his interview, we would have got a video version of it.
I hope in near future you would get yet another chance to do this.

A nice interview. Thanks to the TFM Webpage team.
I liked the above passage. Any good musician would feel that loss, for music invariably carries with it cherishing personal associations and interactions that breathed life in it to a great extent.

Although I had always believed that SPB and SJ shared a great rapport based on the way they sang together, it was really nice to read SPB speak so high of SJ.

bb,
Great, just finished reading the entire interview.
Thanks to u, udaya, RajaG and others. Fantastic...is it possible to have the audio of the conversation posted on this forum, as u know, many love his interviews and stage concerts for merely the way how interactive he is.
Kudos again... and all the questions were really very very nice. And hopefully the team will initiate some sort of felicitation to many other MDs ( underrecognized and other musicians) thro' evergreen SPB.
Prabhudas
