A good singer and a friend of mine, Raja Govindarajan, met S.P.B at Chennai a couple of months back. During their conversation, SPB mentioned that he doesn't remember/have a lot of old rare songs that he has sung and would love to recollect them and have them in his collection. Raja then told SPB about newtfmpage and Song Of The Day section and the discussions that take place there. He then offered to give SPB a set of old songs.
Fast Forward to today; I prepared a set of 41 songs, and a 90 page booklet on the songs. All these songs are old SOTDs and the booklet contained the discussions on these songs. SPB came to the Bay Area today for a concert at Hayward. I met him at the backstage before the concert with Udhaya. We gave him the CDs and the booklet and talked with him for a few minutes. SPB was very courteous and thanked me several times. I was surprised that he made time to to even see us and accept this, just half an hour before the concert. I told him that we have a lot of knowledgeable people and huge collection of his songs, so if he wanted more we could give him whatever information he wanted.
The booklet that I gave him is here: http://www.dhool.com/sotd/spb.pdf .
The 3 CDs that I gave him included 4-5 more songs that are not in this list, like 'vaa ponmayilE', 'malarE ennenna kOlam' and 'thErOttam'.
Hopefully, if SPB goes through the CDs and the text, he will be impressed with the selection and would get back to me or RajaG with his comments.
An Exclusive Interview with SPB!

Did Dr.SPB visit newtfmpage ??
I don't think he did, yet. He was on a concert tour, so may be he didn't have access. I've given him the site address, so he may look it up. I don't know.

A man with golden voice and a clear mind. I think tamilnadu is blessed to have geniuses like SPB et al who do not have shades of eccentricity - a trademark of many western giants. To quote ARR "IR proved to me that without drugs and alcohol and purely out of discipline, great music can be composed". SPB is another gem and I have not seen a musician more clear, evocative and articulate than SPB. Selfishly speaking he must outlive me.

this is the third or fourth intereview with SPB in recent times. (Vijay, podihai? etc )
it is amazing . the man's friendly nature. His ability to connect with the listener be it singing or replying.
so next time SPB sings a Shyam, sathyam, Dakshinamurthi composition in a concert bb neenga collarai thooki vitukalaam.
bb,
next time you happen to meet him pls ask him if he ever studied in Anantapur Engg college. That he enrolled for AMIE and IIET kodambakam is well chronicled. but did he ever study at Anantapur. there was persistant rumours in our campus that he studied there and was residing in K block ?
also remind him about the katcheri.
