This is my question....Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Kavitha Krishnamurti,Sonu Nigam - All sing in Tamil. But their Tamil is really very bad. Are Tamils deaf, tolerant, or have no PERUMAI in their own language? Is there really a shortage of good, tamil-speaking singers? Or is this really Tamil Inferiority Complex?

Truly speaking, my discovery in this thread, after going through about 12 solid pages, is that I can not see a bigger "Vennai Party" than you anywhere. If you honor me with a Nobel Prize for this, I would rather glad to accept..Eppadi unga soukariyam...;-))

I have not ever defending the globalisation of Tamil, Bharath. You've got the wrong person here. And if you are referring to my positng to NCR - that was a parody - a SATIRE - of the kind of things that have been said when I raised the issue of Tamil becoming Alien to "native" Tamilians. That was an entirely IRONIC posting. Please have a look at it again! In fact, my major issue here can be narrowed to one question: AT what PRICE commercialism/globalism?
Too bad this whole thing has been hijacked by a few people who have decided that my topic is too "basic" or "not complex enough" and have taked it upon themselves to add that much needed heaviness to the discussion with an ad-hoc joke fest and banter that has nothing to do with the discussion.
The defenders of many "tamils" here are Fliflo and WhyNot. You may want to check out their arguments in the previous pages of this thread.
Thanks for your posting.

Mumbai Moham - What do Tamils put up with the bad and mediocre singing of Mumbai artistes?
-- How does this make a great topic to defend tamils and tamil language please tell me ...?
The problem we tamils have is we blindly blame others, not accepting the fact we have very mediocre singers whom we have put up with for past "n" number of years.
Indu, many would have stood by you if you had posted a topic,
What do Tamils put up with the bad and mediocre singing? adding "mumbai artists" makes many think you are inside a microcircle of tamil and its so called lib group...high time to grow up and see the world...

Yes, I think the topic should be reworded as
"why do Tamils put up with mediocre singers coming from Mumbai (when we have a lot of them available here in the south, who, even though they cant sing great, can ATLEAST pronounce words properly) ? " :-))

Thanks pal. I know you've seen the world already. And look where that got you. :-))
You know this is not about liberating tamil. It is about making sure that Tamil is not further eroded by twits and twitters. Even after scores of songs - why is that Mumbai singers still don't get it? And why is that Tamilians (such as yourself) put up with it.
This is not blaming. This is about recognising our limitless infatuation for anything that comes with a "mumbai" tage attached to it. And really, I have no worries about people standing with me. If you are such a wise one, go ahead, start your own thread without the "Mumbai" angle...maybe, this discussion - limited as it is here, can be limitless over there. Good idea??
Yes, PBS, PS, TMS, VJ, LRE, SJ, SPB, SG, Jikki, - what a bunch of mediocre pretenders to the throne. Give me Febi, Noel, Minmini, Shuba, Sadhana, Udit, Sukhwinder, Unnikrishnan...thank god, we're entering a phase of undeniable excellence.

Indhu:
When I made similar points about Southern singers spoiling Hindi songs, u gave me crafty explanations!! But I have reached a conclusion... a person who considers the mispronounciation of the Hindi word "odhana" as "vodhana", to be "impeccable", can never be convinced :-))
I have learnt from you that we must always take whatever celebrities say as 100% truth. :-)
U will always believe Naushad,JA (when they praise SPB/VJ 's Hindi ) ... but you will not believe IR,ARR,Deva when they do not seem to have a problem with Lata's,Asha's,Kavita's,Mitali's,Sadhana's Tamil. Another case of "Mumbai moham", I guess??????
:-)))
Indeed I shall never attempt to argue with you again. You have truly enlightened me :-)
PS. - I like the alliteration in "Mumbai Moham".
Vijay:
Though I dont agree with your statement really, (because I think SPB,KJY still sound good), I must say you have given me a good laugh.
Thanks for it.

Indu, put up with what?
basically you got to belive music is universal, I agree they do mistakes in pronouncing, however this does not reflect their capacity to sing. Calling them mediocre singers based on their pronounciation ability is really funny. You are talking without knowing their capcity, like you have added UNNI, his way of singing might be mediocre for tamil film music, his voice and talent is beyond par.
Secondly name some tamil born singer who made it big ?
spb, kjy, tms ,pbs , ps, sj,ks, sujatha - none of them have tamil as their mother tounge, they were broad minded to learn our language and do justification to it, if spb had thought like you and stuck on to sing telugu alone, tamil film music would have missed its greatest singer.
The so called tamil born native singers are very few, Your reason on mumbai singers is very biassed
how about a thread Why tamilians dont have native singers?
Remember my Top 3 easiest things in the world as of today
0. Talking about things (like music) to a great extent without knowing much about it.

we have to make atleast some protests about this abuse. no point in saying tamil singers spoil hindi songs, even though it is true. it should be the concern of northies.
we should be having a person like kannadasan, who publicly condemned kjy, who sang kiliyae instead of kiLiae. unfortunately there is no one now.
suck. singh & co are not willing to correct thier diction and the md.s do not bother about it either. and many here!
everything to spoil this thread is done here. unnecessary personal attacks, comic reliefs, diversion and a lot.
perhaps, that is the aim of all forums?

Mahabs, I dont think that the present day lyricists are incapable of correcting the singers. they just dont care anymore thats all.
A couple of here are failing to get the point when attacking Indhu. I dont think anyone here is making it a chennai vs Mumbai issue. Granted we have had mant talented singers who were not native tamils, but hey, they made it a point to pronounce things correctly right from the get go.
In spite of all their initial flaws and deficiencies, KJY and SPB sounded much better in their FIRST tamil songs than Udit ot Sukhwinder has EVER sounded in the last few years..
what does this show?
This shows that they dont care to correct themselves and nor do the MDs..
and still why do they get the chance to sing over some talented singers like Madhu Balakrishnan, Harish, Chitra, Swarnaltha etc.?
Simple..its all MONEY as Karthik Raja has thankfuly revealed..
these guys have contracts with recording companies and the companies almost pressurize directors and in turn MDs to use these singers..
and its not as if Udit or Suckwinder are legends that we can live with their massacre..they are not Rafi or Manna de and Sadhana Sargam is not Asha or Lata (who, BTW, got to sang a few numbers in the eighties)..
(Thats why I feel that, sometimes, if MDs have their own recording companies, it helps..it helps in making their choice of singers buy themselves..)
and I think many MDs, use soem of these singers, against these wishes for fear of losing their bread..thats how it is right now..
With competition from sat TV, cinema has become MORE of a business than it ever was and unfortunately the producers and MDs can only be blamed so much if they wish to choose Udit or Suckwinder for their songs..
and finally I dont think Indhu, myself or anyone is going to complain if even a Michael Jackson or Madonna get to sing tamil songs tomorrow......
that is, as long as they sing better than Udit :-)

You know who I am?? Who the hell are you? I have never seen you here before! Celebrity 100% truth? Enlightened? Good drugs??
And sameoldjoblessguy....you can take the horse to the water, you can't make it drink. Yes, I have said in not so many words that this is an "imported" trend. I have also said that other southern singers have also had slippages into mispronunciation the way tamil singers have at times mispronuounced a word or hindi here and there...But song after song after song? Either my tamil has gone to the dogs or yours has. And yeah, if it was really voices we were after...then what's wrong with Uma Ramanan, or Sasirekha or vani jayaram or deepan chakravarthi or surender or....yeah, and guess what their pronunciation is also very very Tamil!
So don't be so full of yourself. Go back a few pages in this thread and see what has been said and what has been acknowledged and then come back and give us your sermon. But if you do what I've just requested, chances are we won't have a need for you or the pulpitry that you are so good at.
Now that you have pointed out my bias....maybe you will start a new, objective, full-of-wisdom thread of your own, I hope. That would be good for all of us, trust me.
