Desingu Raaja, shows the real Karthik Raaja. The best song of 2001 , till now. I think that songs just shows, how talented he is. I think , he just proved that music is not dead without IR. BEST of music. I think his trip to hungary with IR, really helped him out. I would even count Rendekalulla mankutti in such as class.

Isai Adimai;
I heard the songs for the third time today. Your words are true...with IR music is not dead. I liked Desingu Raja, Ragasiyamaai and Athan Varuvaaga..Wonderful melodies!

Fliflo,
Especially with the song Desingu raaja, the middle stanza tune is really amazing.... it just continues, as one, russian orchestra music. Thats the best part of the song. Its really amazing.

I am hooked on to "Un Peyarai Sonnale" and "Athan
Varuvaho" during first listen to DDD. I can rate the album as good, melodious and unique.

Are 'Ragasiyamai' and 'Putham Pudhu Poo' (Thalapathi) based on the same raga? I thought the first few lines of Ragasiyamai reminded me of this song.

Hi Guys:
RagaSiyaMai is set in MalayaMarutha Raga. KR has intelligently reused dad's recent song in Bharathi "Ethilum" - go thru the structure of these songs - have fun.

RC

I like the DDD songs very much. The first interlude in 'AdhisayamAi...' is marvellous. 'Desingu RAja' has some surprises too.
Don't know whether it is a copy / Inspiration / just co-incidence...
Athaan VaruvAga pallavi/rhythm pattern reminded me 'Hey Muthu PAppa... oru Mutham KaetppA' song some SatyarAj movie ...

Hi guys!
Just listened to D^3. Excellent album. 8/10.
Yes, upon repeated listening becoz that's the way great composers (IR & ARR) kill us slowly with their great musics. KR has proven to be in such a list. He blends the idea of ARR (in concept) with heart capturing tunes of IR too well. He stands!!!

one small req, please don 't download mp3 files. Its totally unethical. KR/YSR/ARR/IR makes money, only with these songs. Downloading these songs are like, stealing money from them. They are the people who give us good music, and we should n't hurt them, this way. Rest is yours

RC,
'Ethilum Ingu' (Bharati) is NOT Malaya Marudam. It is a rare raga called, 'Rasika Ranjani' (remember 'Amudhe Tamizhe' from 'Kovil puRa'?).
And 'Rahasiyamay' is no way similar to the above song, either in terms of tune or rhythm.

Groovy baby, yeh....
Totally groovy score. Cant wait to see how its been picturised on the grooviest pair in Tamil. Athan varuvaha, Desinga raja stand out. Desinga raja is your typical "patti thotti" song. Already hear speakers of tea kadaigal blaring the song. totally rustic and amazing work by Paa Vijay too, esp the first stanza of Athan (avaha vandhu ninnale seriya kaadhu kekkadhu)
BIG WOW

Peter Pan:
I did not say Ethilum is set in Malayamarutha.
But yes the arrangement was reused ( with slight Modifications ) in this song and the song was set in MalayaMarutha. It's a good song and KR did a good job. No Offense.
IR_FAN:
Ethilum is set in Rasika Ranjani.

VIOLIN NOTES IN SONG 'DESINGA RAJA' REMINDS OF
ILAIRAJA-PROBABLY I HAVE A FEELING ILAIRAJA
INFLUENCED UPON K.R SINCE IT IS MANIRATNAM MOVIE.
OVERALL MELODY LEVEL IS VERY LOW.

Upon repeated hearing, I think I like D3 much more than the first impression. This album is not just ARR or IR style combination. KR has tried a lot of stuff. He has been very detail oriented in this (end of Krishna, Krishna). Overall, this album is an 'integration' exercise to evolve a unique style. I think he has been very successful. If he can repeat this and be consistent then he would have proved himself. Here is what I think were part of this 'integration' effort -
1) POP style unique grooves (un pErai)
2) Use of programmed beats (I think he has only used synth drum kits before ??)
3) Traditional instruments mixed in for 'ethnic' effect (aththAn varuvAga)
4) WCM techniques (like String scores, dynamic contrasts etc) (thEsingu rAja)
5) New Age (almost repeated Enya in thEsingu rAja
aroud 3:25)
6) New genre for a tamil song (rock in suRRum bhoomi).
7) Rustic style singing (thEsingu rAja male vocal reminds me of some song(s) ??).
8) Carnatic music (singing, arrangements)
9) Good acoustic recording (suRRum bhoomi)
10) Non-musical feature - most songs are devoid of any anglicised 'accent'/inflexion.
KR demonstrates he is very capable, but there are bits and pieces that give a deja Vu feeling which could have been avoided.
I dont know about Hindi but the TFM scene seems to be heating up a lot. Very competitive with YSR, HJ and Praveen Mani et. al.
Anybody know where I can buy tamil CDs online ?

Chances of KR's well establishment in TFM has suddenly gone up with DUM DUM
One really miss Uditnarayan in KR's album....

UV,
Glad we share the same thoughts. Actually, I think KR is experimenting with his music, I was really blown over by Grahan, and now d^3. Hope dude doesn't compose music for Vijayakanth and Sarathkumar movies anymore.
sabesan - got the cd cover right now - it says "Hits of 2000". Bought it at Raagas, LAX.
