The much awaited "NANDHAA" film songs (Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Direction : Bala) are being released today (21-10-2001). Kamal Hasan is releasing the first audio cassette and Bharathiraja is receiving it, at Hotel Connemara, Chennai.
The songs are totally fresh & different, and not the usual Yuvan's latino-type music. This album can easily be compared to some of the best of Ilayaraja when he was at his best.
Hear the songs and enjoy.
(The sample audio songs will be posted here tomorrow - 22nd Oct, 2001)

I maintain my opinion that YSR will be the top MD within the next few months. He has had a spectacular year of releases with Rishi,Dheena, Thulluvadho Elamai, Manathai Thirudi Vittai and now Nandha. He shows the maturity of an MD who has been in the industry for many years and I told a friend that YSR was just 22 years old and they were shocked that someone that age could produce such quality music.
He will be a longstanding impact on TFM for many years to come.
Well done Yuvan, I pray to god that other big directors see your potential and talent and offer you the films that you deserve in order to further your career as the best MD :-)

the song sung by spb stands out. I do not know why our producers and music directors are hell bent on sending the tamil film music to the pit.
gone are the great days of msv-tms-pbs combination and irr-spb and arr-spb combinations. all tom ,jack and harry can sing and also do acting. at present only spb can redeem the tfm.

fan (@ 202.9.148.185);
I agree, there are some idiots who Deliberately
created threads like "Mano is better than SPB", "KJY is much better than SPB", as you can see this is created by one person, with different names like
1) Raghuvaran @64
2) Greatest SPB fan
3) Issai piriyan
this person has some thing against me , so he even used my name for silly posting, just ignore these two dumb threads, as you can see, the person who created this is the only one who posted in these thread, apart from you (fan) and this Khalid guy in London, which means that the reason why people are visiting this forum is that, they know it is a load of maattu sani (bull Sh*t), I kindly request you to not to post in these threads, so that they will disappear soon.
thanks

raghuvaran (212...),
some time b4 there was another guy who kept on creating threads under different names like Shilpa, Padaiyappa etc...
Atleast the new threads now says 1 singer > 1 other singer.
But those threads were named "SPB greates ever singer" etc actually said 1 singer > all other singers.
I understand you are pained deeply by these shenanigans creating new threads under different names just to thrust a singular point on others.
Now I hope you know How we felt a month b4!

Folks, let's discuss the ragas of some of the songs in Nandhaa..
1) Maayane - Sindhu Bhairavi
2) Engengo - Keeravaani
3) Amma Endraaley - Purvi Kalyani (on the lines of Ninnai Charan Adainthen)
BTW, what raga is "Mun Paniyaa" based on ? I think the interludes by Malgudi Subha is in "Ananda Bhairavi". The line "Karaiya Kadandhu nee vandadhu edharku" is on lines of "Ennudaiya Kaadhalaya romba romba bathiramaa" from "Konja Naal Poru Thalaivaa"
Any opinions on this please

THERE IS A CUP OF IR,S MUSICAL TOUCH AND IMPACT IN A BOTTLE OF GOOD NANDHA MUSIC,3 SONGS
MUN PANIYAA,ENGENGOO,OOR AAYIRAM,MUST B TUNED ONLY BY ILAIRAAJA.
NANADHAA IS 1% OF ATTEMPT BY I.R TO DELIVER HIS POWERFUL TUNES IN DOLBY FRIENDLY OUTPUT,WITH MUSICAL AND BEAT DOMINATIONS.
I.R's MELODY MIXED WITH MUSICAL DOMINATION IS GREAT. AND IF HE REALLY WANTS TO GIVE MAXIMUM IN THIS PATTERN NOBODY CAN STAND IN THE TFM MARKET.
THO RAHMAN IS KNOWN FOR HIS MUSIC AND BEAT DOMINATING SONGS HE CAN ONLY RARELY GIVE SOME MELODIOUS TUNES,BUT NOT VAXING MELODY LIKE RAAJA.
YUVANSHANKARRAAJA PATTERNED IR TUNES (FLUTE NOTES) IN NANDHAA IS GREAT

you guys still not able to digest the fact ....ARR..is a great composer...that you have pull him in comparison ...all the time...show me as good a melody as "porkalam ange" from thenali.. in the recent times...tunes which have really rocked.the tinsel world...as "dil se"....show me any album from anybody compared to "dil se"..when he is bitching about IR ..pulease guys ..stop bitching about him...ITS ARR'S time to perform magic..as IR would term it..
thankx...

its just as IR turned the crowd to him from MSV...with his superlative music at that time...ARR has did the same thing..people's taste changes...trend changes...they have changed again ...ARR broke the monotony of IR constant use of tabla's and violins...and his great interludes...people were too naive to undersatnd his nuances...ARR music is simple..u'll hummm immediately....people's taste shud be fed ...thats why HJ and deva can demand a greater sum than IR...IR is a great musician ..agreed..but that doesnt mean we put down other musicians...thats all..its a test of time...
i wonder how of many of you gave reviews to an album of ARR like the one u did for nandhaa...if nandhaa deserves such an onerwhelming review...i wonder how" kandukondein kandukondein " would have fared among you ...

I totally agree with "TRUTH". People and the trend change. People who actively listen to film music are of the age 13 - 24 maybe + or - 2 this way that way. These are the people who determine the audio sales. People who are of IR's time are now in their 30+. But people who are of ARRs time fall right in this category.
Also music is not only the technicalities, also the presentation (which I mean recording, rhythm, usage of modern instruments etc). Sure MSV and IR are great MDs, Unfortunately their time did not have any of these recording facilities, Hitech instruments, sound engineering etc. Good thing about ARR is, He makes full use of these available hitech stuff. His music is a combo effect of technology and creativity.

Truth and Ash
I guess I agree with you that IR and MSV did not have the technical support to give a full exposure to their tunes. But then ,their music still stays..with the simple tablas and violins. Its just that the combination of great voice, good orchestration and good lyrics made the whole thing work !ARR is a genius who makes use of whats available around him.Good for him and good for all of us to enjoy this too.
Yuvan seems to be improving with each movie. Nandhaa is a development by leaps and bounds for him.The music is fresh, different and so beautifully conveys the pathos in the movie. There would be no purpose comparing this with lets say Kandukondain cos they are different genres. Kandukondain is a lavish moviethat was mounted on a huge scale with everything matching the scale.Nandhaa is a much more subtler approach to movie-making where the onus is on the story and how cohesive the music is with the movie..rather than trying to create huge sets with extras and match it with grand music. ARRs music for Kandukondain was brilliant. So in Yuvans for Nandhaa. These cannot be compared at any point.
And regarding ur point that ARRs moviesare not reviewed as well as Yuvans or IRs, the target audience of this site seem to be tamilians abroad and a slightly more mature and music sensitive audience who just dont listen to the beats and dance stuff but the intrinsic value of a song. and needless to say, IRs songs have been always intrinsically strong even if they didnt meet public demand.
So lets continue reviewing music in the right vein, with the context in place and comparisons between similar movies and similiar scales.

musicfan ..
there is no denying the fact that IR music is here to stay in the minds of all tamil music lovers for ages to come..there is only one man who did infuse BACH into tamil music ..he is superlative compared to others...but the common thing i find in these forums is bised views....
IR's fans just dont have it in them to appreciate or write about other's work .i truly understand most of us in this forum are living abroad..so the music that would touch us is definitley going to be the one which would haunt us..be it our memories or your emotions ...i think IR'S music does exactly that ...and those who hav a lill bit of musical sense..would simply lov his work for the amout of orchestration he does..fine ..agreed to the point...
but dont u think if ARR had the same style as IR ..whats the point..he is just trying to be different ...he is not sticking to an IR PLANE OF THOUGHT..he doesnt give interludes..or anything of such sort...but stills comes out his own and succeeds in it too...i just hope the fans living outside india..would appreciate ARR'S music as a music director not as one who dislodged IR..(THE SAD THING ABOUT IT IS ..HE DID)...yuvan is a good composer no denying that either...lets have a fairness in reviews ..thats my only wish ..
thanx

Truth, In response to your posting, let me say, that I believe that ARR did recieve reviews better than Nandhaa, when he was the top pf the market. You cannot say that he hasn't,ARR has always been top pf the TFM charts but he is losing that position through his own doing.Yuvan has got great reviews for his work for a few reasons.
1) He is young and upcoming
2) His music is easily comparable to any other MD
3) His music is varied and caters for all the audience.
4) There is only originality and uniqueness in his work.
Nandha was a great achievement for Yuvan because it was his first movie away from the western and modern influences.
As an NRI, I would like to say that there is nothing wrong with ARR's work, and just because I praise IR or Yuvan, it doesn't mean I don't give ARR credit for what he has done for TFM.But the point here is that ARR is just not delivering as he used to, and this is paving the way for Yuvan to become the top MD in TFM.
Also my final point is that you say that ARR doesn't get fair reviews like IR or YSR.But I didn't see anyone bat an eyelid when the threads compaing Yuvan and HJ came out. How can HJ be ranted and raved about so much, when his albums are bottom of the TFM charts and his music is so poor?
All IMHO.
