Go ahead with your 32 kbps recording quality. But, please bear it in mind that it will take up a lot of space. Though xoom claims unlimited space, I have my reservations.
Another thing I wanted to tell you is that it will be better if you are satisfied with:
(1) 20 kbps quality for normal length songs (eg 2 charana songs)
(2) 32 kbps quality for short songs (instrumental pieces from I@$ etc..)
(3) 16 kbps quality for very long songs (Vandhemaatharam from Kaalaapaani)
If you can have this in your mind, you can build your site without occupying much of space. Also, you can ensure yourself that the net congestion for the dialup users is minimized.
The quality is very good. Please proceed. Thanks for "Nadhiyoram"

CONGRATULATIONS! on your new website and welcome to our club!! One simple suggestion: I think you have encoded most of the stuff in 32 Kbps format..... This means larger files, and more of buffering problems. Soon, your mailbox will be flooded with fans' complaints regarding buffering problems.
High quality RA files, doesn't essentially mean higher bitrate encoding. In fact you can even go to 64 Kbps encoding and provide near CD quality RA file to the audience. But the problem is home users like me cannot really enjoy those numbers, because we use sloppy ISPs to dialup from home.
The other day when MS was having stronger feelings like you, I arranged for a Netmeeting and showed him all my counter details and random analysis, which clearly showed that most of the audience to sites like mine, come from home dialups (always above 75%). To cater this section of audience should be your criteria -- this is my personal feeling.
Now the time is 12:45 AM.......With so low traffic, the song should have been buffered without any problem....It did not....(Vandhal Vandhal Raajakumaari) because of 32 Kbps.....Now imagine how much of more buffering problems it can pose, when audience visit your site during Peak hours......
I hope you would have got my point.....This is just a suggestion and so if you are interested in 32 Kbps uploads, you can ignore this one.
Am kind of very busy for the past 4 days, due to some unforseen events. But if you need some help, feel free to mail me at rexarul@catholic.org or rexarul@hotmail.com

MS & Rex,
Thanks a lot for your immediate feedback,Guys working late nights!!! if on same Eastern timezone.Regarding the 32Kbps encoding, I chose the minimum that was offered by Real player G2 Plus,Could you is it possible to generate files at 20Kbps or 16Kbps with Real Player G2, let me also meanwhile play around with the real player.The best part is Real player the option I choose says the entire CD should take only 7MB, but still the each song alone takes more than 1MB. I still need to understand this.
Did you listen to "Parthadhenna" from Rare Hits, it is a very good number, don't miss it if you have not heard before.
Regards

Check out your erols email id.....I have sent you a detailed CHAT SESSION transcript that I had with one other webmaster regarding encoding techniques using GOLDWAVE and REALAUDIO encoder....
It will remind you of VAYALUM VAAZHVUM type of discussion....But will be very helpful.

rex, several others seem to have similar questions about encoding, and not many know about goldwave,audiograbber,diskmaid and stripit softwares. can u spruce up a document on it and post it here? we can link it from this thread.
Thanks.

that should be a fine idea bb. Rex - you have been using goldwave and real encoder for quite sometime. Ravi and Shibu are Cool edit/real encoder users. I use real G2 producer. May be everybody can give a detailed writeup of how to use these and send a copy to you.

yes, and hopefully with the latest versions:) (producer is a later version of encoder). categorize it as:
CD ==> wav
CD ==> mp3
CD ==> rmx
cassette => wav, mp3, rm.
wav,mp3,au ==> .ra or .rm
and other features like noise reduction, delayed tracks etc.

Suresh,
CONGRATULATIONS !!! What a superb collection of songs to start off with the Maestro Ilaiyaraaja website. I saw the site today morning at 7.00AM(Took a sneak before going to office). I was able to listen to the songs very easily. There was no connection problems(buffering) at that time. I could hear within three/four seconds on clicking.
And thanks a million for maintaining a separate page for GOLDEN VOICE OF ILAIYARAAJA . I too am a very big fan of IR's voice. If you didn't know, I have a page with over 150(?) songs of the Maestro's voice.
Welcome to the club!!!
