SAW VIRUMANDI

I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

  The movie is a hit . I think that is where it ends. like any other movie it has negative things. but we cant expect 100% positive points. The movie is different, well acted/directed, good music,sets, photography and makes u live with the characters....

  My ramblings about Virumaandi
  People already started yelling that this movie is going to be yet another flop for kamal.My friend told me"machan padam super daa,aana makkaluku puriyadhu.so yet another mega flop".i dunno how these people are so sure that an ordinary person cannot understand this .these ppl must be extrordinary or maybe they think that these kinda movies could be understood only by intelligent people like them and thus claiming themselves as intellectuals.sigh!
  People(read pandidargal) say that the targeted audience for this movie are in the villages,but this movie cannot be understood by them. WHAT GREAT ASSUMPTIONS!!. I saw the movie sitting in the third row--what people call front benches-- but i heard many fellas during the interval "machan,kamal kalakittan daa" and one guy,who could very well fit into the definitions of a 'lane man ' , appreciated the double narration by telling "yenna sequence machan" . and they are not kamal fans .So ,jus cut the crap and stop screaming that these kinda movies could be understood by intellectual people whose IQ is above 120 blah blah ...
  Another irritating comment is that "city crowd cannot understand Madurai slang. what non sense!! if a guy could understand a silent movie called "pushpak" and comprehend it very well,then im sure he could understand every bit of this movie.also,im also very much a city person and have been to the villages only few times. so,if i could understand it,then im sure every bonker could understand it.
  Then ,the usual non sense. "story is confusing". " same scenes are coming again and again" blah blah .sigh! i dunno how ppl come to such conclusions. maybe its like this---a guy watches a movie. like most people ,he is also in a kinda relaxed, semi-doze state and he needs the stroy to be fed into his brain , similar to the notorious 'valapala sombeeri' .suddenly if the strory is not fed properly , waking him up from his semi doze state,he declares that the story is confusing,though it is very much under his understanding capability. when the story needs some minimum participation from him ,he refuses to participate continuing to sleep and missing some finer nuances of the story and lost track of it. so if any kinda story that wakes u up from the sleep,and wants ur participation in it, then that story is termed CONFUSING! gud going fellas .hats(and pants) off! );-;(
  and then this time for a change we have a different comment. "there are other people who acted better than kamal". so kamal lost it big time ;-( . the familiar criticism(read bashing) would be "kamal dominated the whole movie.he never gave the oppurtunity to his co stars.he is there in all the frames,from the beginning to the end even during the interval!". but this time kamal loses it out to pasupathy,abirami,peikamman (shanmugam,i guess ),naaseer and ever to sorimuthu! so,after reading the above two the two very similiar(!) comments, make ur own conclusions.
  well, thatz everything going on outside the movie. letz see whatz there inside the movie and also whatz there deep inside . till then..... happy bashing! cheerio/

  I saw the movie yesterday. I was impressed by the movie. I think it will be a hit, atleast hope it is going to be a hit, because movies like KM and Anbe Sivam were flops. A must watch movie for anyone who cares for movies that are different with the right pace (a realistic, artistic commercial movie?)
  
  It had a strong story and screenplay, and well planned scenes (almost every scene is implied, instead of the director telling everything like why Kamal is doing this and so on) with a layer of "Mann Vasanai" without exaggerating (scene where kamal escapes by hiding under the van, there was this village dance on the background). The first 30 mins or so can be confusing like seeing the missing some of the vital moves of a chess game. Kamal's (Virumandi's I should say) view of the story, puts the pieces together, then you get into the movie. Its kind of good to keep guessing. As you get into the movie you relate so many things. Also so many nuances in the movie urges me to watch it again. I think this is one movie which you can watch a couple of times.
  
  Everyone played their part without any problem (though in one or two isolated case I felt people are acting for the camera ... especially friends of Kamal). Most of the characters in the movie take quick (erratic) decision and that is the way they are. Still, I didnt feel any hint of exaggeration (like overacting) and no one were out of place. Pasupathy and Abirami in particular acted very well.
  
  I watched this movie in the wrong cinema hall in London. It had one of the worst sound systems and I felt couple of scenes jarring. I found it more when the songs were played. I dont know whether this was there in most cinema halls.
  
  Ilayaraja had a little role to play in the BGM. I think its because of the "Live Sound". Live sound bothered me a little sometimes (maybe because of the cinema hall). It was jarring sometimes because of too many sounds (people's voices mostly with other irritating sounds). The title music was used rightly at appropriate places. Though in one or two places the BGM seemed a little out of place (again I dont know whether this is the theatre effect).
  
  Cinematography and art direction was good. i didnt feel the sets. But in one or two cases the scene looked cramped with people. Though the movie is 3:15 mins. I could not recall a scene/sequence that could be shortened, except for the last jail sequence (but it will look abrupt, if it is just carefully done).
  
  Reasons for the banning death sentence was not convincing with the excessive violence though. But, the good part is there is no childish justification and its a very realistic and subtle movie.
  
  Overall, Its a neatly made movie with importance to everyone in the movie (good sign). I think Kamal is balancing the possible -ve point of Anbe Sivam, it was a little slow (though I felt it was at the right pace), this movie is fast paced. I think Kamal will make a good director, and can play good roles which suits his body (I felt an ageing kamal on screen).

  There are scenes in which Kamal has been overtaken. But as u said(?), "So what?". That doesn't matter any way. I was actually happy that Kamal wasn't upto his usual stuff - editing scenes in which he has been outperformed or whatever. I may sound baseless on this, but I am just going by the general word. I have no proofs for this whatsoever! As regards this film, the director 'Kamal' is the clear winner in my opinion. So as you said, it doesn't matter one bit. The movie is cool,we enjoyed it and that is it. No further craps.
