Rajini Kanth should concisously make an effort to see if everything is right with the movie. First Udith Narayan lent his voice to Rajini. If that was not awful, Baba has just one SPB song. Worst Rajini movies songs ever. As simple as that.

Baba will raise your spirits with its message
HYDERABAD: Finally, the lid of secrecy over the latest Rajnikant-starrer Baba is flung open. The star himself revealed the theme of the movie at the audio release function of the movie at Grand Kakatiya Hotel here on Friday evening.
Speaking at length about the much-awaited movie, coming after a gap of nearly three-and-a-half-years since Narasimha, Rajnikant said when he almost put an end to his film career, he was prompted to act again by his Guru Sachidananda when he visited his ashram in Virginia in the US.
The swamy told him that popular actors reach out to masses more than saints, and they should put that to good use by sending out a spiritual message to the masses, Rajnikant said.
So, a story was prepared with the disciple of a Himalayan Yogi as the central character and was aptly titled Baba. The yogi was none other than Mahavatar Baba, who was said to be thousands of years old and taught Lahiri Mahasaya the techniques of Kriya Yoga, which were passed on to popular Yogi Yogananda through his guru Yukteswar Giri, the actor said.
The main idea behind the film was to touch the spiritual instincts of people and to highlight the Vedic heritage _ not Hindu but Vedic heritage _ of the nation, Rajnikant said.
Popular Telugu film hero Chiranjeevi said he drew inspiration from Rajnikant at every stage.
Film Development Corporation chairman DVS Raju, AP Film Chamber of Commerce president BV Reddy and others spoke.

DK moves HC against some scenes, dialogues in film Baba
PTI
CHENNAI: The Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) on Friday filed a suit in Madras High Court seeking to remove scenes, dialogues or songs in Tamil movie Baba, starring matinee idol Rajinikant, in which references were made to DK founder E V R Periyar.
In the suit, the DK contended that an article published in Tamil weekly Kumudam by Vali, a lyricist in Tamil cinema who had written a song for the movie using the names of Periyar and Rajaji (C Rajagopalachari), had described the story of Baba as a change of an atheist to a religious person.
The write up had created shock waves not just among followers of Periyar, a known atheist, but also disturbed all people who respected him.
Stating that the ideological fight between Periyar and Rajaji, who were close friends, never ended during their life times or even after their demise, the plaintiff contended that if the lyricist was not aware of the social history of Tamils he should not have used the name of a legend, respected by people of the State.
Charging the film's director with being equally or more responsible for each and every scene, dialogue, action and sound on and off the screen in the making of the film, the DK said it was surprising that the director either intentionally or ignorantly accepted the verses of the song and recorded it without any change.
Audio cassettes of the song were released on July 31.
The suit alleged that Rajnikant had discussed the song with Vali and had approved of it.
The DK also sought a permanent injunction restraining the defendants from using the symbols, emblems, flags, colours or names of popular leaders belonging to the movement including Periyar, the suit sought a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the director and producer of the film.

All the accusations are very interesting here.
Did you guys know both the director and the Star accept to the tunes and then the songs are made.
So if you find the songs totally unworthy of a rajni movie then tha blame should be place equally on three people.
ARR did not accept many movies becuase of BD. It is understood that then Rajni would not have had his undivided attention.
Rahman and rajni are a very strong combination. Each would shine better in their own than when they come together.

The defense is very interesting here. The crux of the point is he didn't score well. He dished out a crap. Whether Rajini accepts or not it is a crap. Moreover BD is not something he had to start from the scratch. All the tunes were recycled. What is there to compose? It's not like he is scoring like 50 movies in an year!!! For heaven's sake he should stop scoring music for Tamil films. Let him not come back to chennai. Let him settle for Hindi movies. Rajini cannot be held responsible for this debacle.

The bottomline is how Rajini's fan will take this music. I checked up rajinidorcom yahoo group and they are extremely happy. That is what you call the dish for the right mass. The calculation of Rajini and Rahaman have once again worked.

This clearly shows that you have never listened to it even once. There are 6 recycles and 10000 times it has been stated as to why. Now stop this Sh*t.

For All the Araloosu like JJ, MUSICFAN, A etc.
That "Theivam ondru" song is a bonus and it is not in the cassette. I don't know how mohan kumars got hold of it...it might not have been a ARR's composition...It would have been a Rajini's stunt or some other aarvakolaaru's work who would have included it out of passion for Rajini. Or Who know, in the film Rajini comes in diff. getup with angry face...so don't jump into joy..for deep sorrow is not far away...

Are Yaar you are one real die hard defender of this crappy MD. It is unbelievable that you are defending this music!! Either you have no taste for music or you just blindly shout like stray dog. Just read this forum!!! Why do you go to some other forum!! What is there to calculate!!!
It is the most pathetic music in a movie i have heard. It can only be compared to some of the Deva's music. He has even dwarfed Deva in dishing out crap. Are Yaar is ularifying in desperation!!!
He is very angry because his 'Demi God' ARR has specatcularly failed in giving a decent music!!!
Are Yaar is feeling insecure as he is getting multipronged attack... RK fans, IR fans, Music fans, common fans... Accept it is a junk music!!

Let me answer you line by line. I too am feeling bored. Don't go away. Fight..
>>>Are Yaar you are one real die hard defender of this crappy MD. It is unbelievable that you are defending this music!!
The music is good and its a nice change for a Rajini fan like me. I am an ARR fan that is a universal truth. So I have got to defend, but I do it with sense.
>>>Either you have no taste for music or you just blindly shout like stray dog.
YOu are the stray dog. You jump into all ARR threads and sh*t there. Now tell me why can't you sh*t there in IR's thread. Do we people come there.
And calling me a Dog...well I will say.."inam inaththai ariyum"..I take your compliment..but would like to tell you the proverb.."Birds (dogs) for same feather (tail) flock (Shake) each other"
>>>Just read this forum!!! Why do you go to some other forum!! What is there to calculate!!!
That's cool isn't it. You only see a place which is majority with fundamentalist IR group. Now tell me..for whom this film is..The tea wall and the autorikshaw walla out there in street is enjoying the music. You can hear that now in all places in Chennai...Why do you waste your energy shouting here..You wish that ARR should not compose and all. That clearly shows that how much of a deep effect he has had in you and your fellows..If that hadn't been then you wouldn't be shouting all along for a film music that has 0% of IR or IR's family involvement in it. I too can stoop too low as you..I don't want to insult that great man just to have a dual with you. Right..leave it..next
>>>It is the most pathetic music in a movie i have heard.
You are saying this to every ARR movie..so no use.
>>>It can only be compared to some of the Deva's music. He has even dwarfed Deva in dishing out crap. Are Yaar is ularifying in desperation!!!
Me ularifying....? Come on who's saying who. See how many post you have made into ARR's thread. Now tell me if you hate him in person, why do you visit him. You should be with out job. I am free now for the moment..So don't go away..I want to pass time..hope my boss allows.
>>>He is very angry because his 'Demi God' ARR has specatcularly failed in giving a decent music!!!
>>>Are Yaar is feeling insecure as he is getting multipronged attack... RK fans, IR fans, Music fans, common fans... Accept it is a junk music!!
I think you are addressing to some one else, using my name..okay who is insecure, is a clear visual that every once can see here. Again, I am secure and confident about my demi God. I need not bring down some one else to boost my God'd image. You are doing exactly the opp. I mean you feel insecure..Or else, you wouldn't have been so eager to read and say any tiny bit negative about ARR.

A GREAT BABA REVIEW
REVIEWED BY : Swapnil Mistry
"Baba", according to me, should be liked by both the masses and classes as it has got those ingredients to satisfy each one's tastes.
Baba's music is good and is different from the typical Rajini-style of music. It is youngish, yet fresh and appealing. It is pacy yet melodious. ARR proves himself again that he can churn out good tunes inspite of being under pressure. Actually the slogan "known is a drop...unknown is an ocean" stands absolutely true for ARR. All the songs have some speciality. Lets look at them in detail:
1. Baba theme- Ekamevadwiyam (Srinivas): The first time I heard this piece, I almost felt I'm in a temple or a divine place. The prelude has cellos and violins playing a haunted tune. And then Srini enters with a base-voice, sounding a bit like Hari. The entire piece looks like pundits chanting a mantra for a holy ritual in a temple. The background work is amazing playing Raag Bhairav; an early morning raag (Sa Re~ Ga Ma Pa Dha~ Ni Sa; ~ means komal swara). After Srini ends, there is a female voice sounding like an opera and temple bells ringing. That bell sound really gives u a holy feeling and it vibrates ur soul. Its a beautiful way to start an album. The only complaint is that its too short. Rating: 8.5/ 10.
2. Dippu dippu (Shankar Mahadevan): Seems that ARR is seriously inspired by Bhangra beats..."Lagaan" was the beginning, "Pagdi sambhaal" continued the trend, "Wedding qawwali" proved the fact and now this one. It starts with normal vocals in the upper pitch by Shankar singing "Babaaa..." and then it shifts to a symphony kind of music with marching beats and suddenly unexpectedly u hear Bhangra beats with chorus shouting "Aaho!". The song is amazing with regular ARR percussions. After the cross line, its amazing to listen to the downwards progression of the notes by the chorus. The 1st interlude resembles a lot like those Indi-pop Punjabi songs (Jassi's "Dil le gayi kudi...") played on the organ. The antara is good with able support from the strings department. With the strings, it sounds more melodious. The 2nd interlude has rhythmic patterns on drums and its ARR speciality. The 3rd interlude is more soulful with strings just mesmerising u. After the 3rd charanam, the song changes its scale like in most of ARR's fast songs. This song has its origin from "Daud"s Bhangra by Usha Utthup. Overall the song is a pleasant surprise for all ARR and Rajini fans. Rajini must have never got such type of an entry song. A sure-shot winner! Rating: 8/ 10.
3. Baba kichchu taa (Reena Bhardwaj/ S.P.B): A new talent, again! From where do these singers find their way to ARR, I really wonder. I want to find out how these unknown figures become a subject of attraction once they sing for ARR. But I must confess that ARR knows how to exploit new talents. They suit the song so well that people forget that he/ she is a new singer. Nyways, the song is a sweet melody based on Raag Aabheri (Bhimpalasi). Reena's voice is a mixture of Sadhana+Kavita Paudwal+Sujata Trivedi+Chitra Sivaraman. She's got that innocence in her voice yet an appealing one. She's equally good in lower as well as upper octaves. The song has got a catchy rhythm.S.P.B is at his usual best. S.P.B gets few songs from ARR nowadays, but considering Rajini, he must have givn it to S.P Sir. The first interlude has sweet pan flute-kinda sound joined by Trumpets. The melody is beautiful. Both the charanams belong to Reena and S.P joins only in the cross lines. The charanam has a Cranatic flavour. What a break for Reena! Is she a Tamilian? The 2nd interlude is again rhythm-based with digital sounds and Saxophone joining in later. The song has got good electric guitar support from Rashid Ali and Bass from Keith Peters. Its similar to songs like "Telephone manipol", etc. Rating: 7/10
4. Maya maya (Karthik/ Sujatha): The song starts with Karthik's vocals and rhythms. Then the main lines enter "Maya maya ellam maya, chaya chaya ellam chaya" with such a force and the rhythm joins in. It is in the 6/8 meter. The pallavi is very attractive and is sure to catch up. Its got that international touch and accent. In the 1st interlude there is beautiful flute glides and one can hear soft tablas. Charanams are soft and melodious. Karthik has done a commendable job. The 2nd interlude is beautiful with flutes. Naveen has played the flute extremely well. The entire melody changes. Sujatha enters...delivers her best and leaves her mark. She is so comfortable with all types of songs. The 2nd charanam is very well-rendered. Its sure to become a hit. The percussions are catchy and very peppy. Rating: 8/ 10.
5. Rajiyama (Jayachandran): Not a regular ARR-type.You feel u r listening to some other composer like IR. If u've heard Deen Isai Maalai, u'll immediately identify with this song. This is a typical darga-type sugi song which has got traces of a sufi qawwali. The song has essential percussions like duffs, dholak and ektara. What is special of this song is the wind-instrument 'duduk' played by Naveen. This is what I like about ARR...he has always something new to his audience and one learns a lot from his music. Duduk givs u a totally deserted feel to it as if the singer is singing on the hot sand dunes in a desert. The basic melody is based on Bhairavi. It has devotional shades specially in the charanams. The charanam tune is very similar to tunes of Marathi abhangs. Jayachandran has done a good job though he sounds stretched in the upper notes. He sounds exactly like Yesudas. The song reminds me of "Vidai kodu" from Kannathil. It will surely grow after a few listenings. Its surely not typically ARR style but we must encourage him to adopt to different styles of composing. Afterall, he is a versatile composer. Rating: 7.5/ 10.
6. Sakthi kodu (Karthik): I love this song. Its among the best compositions of ARR off-late. It starts with heavy percussions and then Karthik and chorus vigourously singing "Sakthi kodu". The second time he sings "sakthi kodu", pay attention to the chorus. The melody and chords are different. The entire song is based on Raag Yaman kalyan (Kalyani). The highlight of the song is that it has that vigour and passion in it but is soft and pleading too. Listen to the lines "taayum neeye...uyirum neeye", they are so beautiful. Its a prayer to Goddess Kaali who has shades of anger and hatred for devils but mercy and love for her devotees. This is brought out very well in the song. It is hard-hitting yet soft-spoken. The 1st interlude has guitars and percussions joined by fast string progressions. The chords are wonderful. (Vijay, Rano will definitely like it). After the charanam, the rhythm changes to 5 beats in fast pace with mridangam and cymbals in the background. Its a true devotional song where someone is pleading and asking for something to God and to destroy evil powers. When the rhythm returns to normal and Karthik sings the sign line, there is a beautiful strum of the guitar. This is what amuses me...the song is a devotional song yet there is a use of guitars and strings with modern percussions. Any other composer would have used Indian instruments like tabla, pakhawaj, sitar, veena, but ARR tries to give it a global appeal. The song is excellent though it has got shades of "Nee than en desiya geetam " from PP. Good attempt. Though I dont understand the lyrics, I can figure it out that both Vaalee and Vairamuthu have done a great job.
Rating: 9/ 10.
So, lets hope "Baba" creates new waves for Rajini as well as ARR. Its a humble attempt and ARR should be appreciated and congratulated.
Swapnil
