Bug,
i think u have been a little delayed in geting on with whats happening here. this discussion was started by us quite some time back. in trying to answer u i would only be wasting my time because u dont seem to be getting my point.
and FYI, whatever songs i have contributed to the list here are my own findings. i have not compiled the entire list for your info. If i borrow info from others and if i create a new page i'll definitely acknowledge the source. end of digression, period.
lets get back to discussing copied songs guys.

Was listening to IR's telugu songs from 'Sangeerthana'. This song (good)
http://www.telugucinema.com/audio/cornor/ram/sankeertana3.ram
has been 'recycled' as 'nilave mugam kaattu' (ejamaan).

The chorus 'nenjai allum dolby song ival' chorus in the song 'aval varuvAlA' - Aasai (Deva) is from the song 'Get up Stand up' by Bob Marley.

RR,
at present we shall concentrate on songs inspired from non-indian sources only as RajaG suggested. once we compile this list we can concentrate on indian sources as i believe these would be too many.

vijay: just thought of pointing out, it was so glaring..
anyone know the source for 'laila..laila' (nandhini) ? Some persian score, could be didi. It was also copied by Alisha.

RR.,
Raja has used lot of his Telugu songs in Tamil and Tamil songs in Telugu. Aditya Audio has released two cassettes with IR's telugu hits (Surprisingly., In the midst of all these synthetic stuff., These two have become Super hit in terms of sales and they are thinking of releasing some more in this series). If you listen to these two cassettes., You will find atleast 50% Tunes from Tamil. Telugu-kku avai fresh songsthaanee, that too then it comes from the same composer., I don't think we can call it Copy.

bb/RR,

2. for a few dollars more theme
3. ofra haza -galbi
4. vanessa williams - colors of the wind
5. puttin on the ritz - Taco
6. shes a maniac - from flashdance

NagaS: :-)) I dare not call that a copy. I know there are a few songs of reusage, e.g. 'madurai marikozhunthu vaasam' ('yamaho' in J.V.A.Sundari), 'puthiya poovithu poothathu' ('kotha kothagaa' in surya IPS),etc. The song in question is not a reusage, but a recycling.
A la SA Rajkumar's songs... I didn't want to give this analogy but you made me say it :-) Throw the tomatoes.. :-))

Huh!! Wonder how/why the industry points its fingers only at Raja for arrogance/ego..

MS,
Thanks for the info. 'Anjali' song is in western style. Thats why I had a feeling that the song must be derived from many western classical pieces. Maniratnam is the right person to ask about the original tune.

'Anubavam pudhumai' is inspired from a song called
Besame Mucho - a latin/mexican song of the
sixties.
The anupallavi,
"Annalil illatha pollatha ennangalae" is an exact copy of that song's anupallavi(?). Besides
that the feel and the beat of the song are
adapted very closely and also very imaginatively!
It is a good example of how a theme/mood can be
developed and improved! It is not a copy at all!
I will try to provide an real audio or at least
a midi file!

Rjay,
Today afternoon, I was about to post about 'Anubavam Pudhumai song'. I know it is inspired from a Latin song.
But I was not sure about the Title of the song. Thanks for the info. Now I believe in Telepathy :)
'Rajavin Paarvai Raaniyin Pakkam' song is inspired from some Japanese tune. Do you know the Original?

I have been wondering since "Thaalam" came out (I don't listen to Hindi, so won't compare "Taal"), that I have listened to the "clap, clap, clap" percussion sound before. I'm talking about the sound that follows, "megaththil irundhu va va va" and recurs in the rest of the song.
It just dawned on me. Thompson Twins, a famous British trio from the 80s, had a song that goes, "East is East, West is West, two different colors on the map." I can't say for sure the name of the track but it's key line is what I have above. Anyway, that song uses the exact "clap, clap, clap" sequence right after "East is East" and "West is West" and throughtout the song.
This is mentioned purely in the interest of comparison. Whether it's copy or inspiration or coincidence is up to the pundits to decide.
Caveat:There's not a single MD that I hate, I enjoy good songs from Sirpi, Deva , SAR, as well as the unfortunately deified ones.

Naveen, how about this - Most of the times I read people's questions right out of their brains and try to answer ASAP. Only when your
antennae are down, I use conventional
electronic media!

Heard of Daud theme ? There comes a statement in it " We need a beat" - I heard the same in the song which was played in the Background of Silk stalkings on Wednesday (jul 12th) midnight. Any others who noticed ?
Now this should not be considered "ayyE" :-)

Happened to see Annamalai yesterday (on DVD). Throughout the movie - Deva's songs, BGM etc. sounded so familiar and Rajaish. IF you ask me to point a finger at a particular song and give you the source, I probably wont be able to. I was wondering if somebody knowledgeable would be able to quantify this type of intangible copying somehow. I dont think it is inspiration nor is it a direct copy --- but somehow I "know" when I listen to the stuff that it is totally not original ...

A SHOCK!!
remember the "Ba ba ba Ba ba bari Ba ba bari" song from Apoorva Sagotharargal..
I heard the same humming from "Beach Boys" troop yesterday in ABC. But it goes like this
Bar Bar Bar Bar bar Ann
Bar Bar Bar Bar bar Ann
I could never believe this song is a COPY from a western song. hmmm... IR is no exception to this..

aarpee,
beach boys are very very old guys like the beatles.
btw: I have posted this many times here, I will do it again, those words (bha bha) are called as "scats" something like the words "tha dha ree nana" in carnatic music, anyone can use it.
so I dont think so this is a copy.
check the other scores in the song, it is out of the world.

But that 'one oclock two oclock" part from the song could have been inspired from Bill Haley's
"rock around the clock". Link taken from copied songs list.
