Many of us listen to songs and as we are enjoying it, suddenly cringe at something, be it the music, the note, the singer's voice for that particular part, etc. etc. and wish we had the power to change/delete just that part. Well here we have it now! Please don't recommend entire songs or major parts which we want to be deleted (Udit Narayan trying to sing any TF song, or Asha in engengEy, engengEy). Only select, an otherwise good song with selected part which you think does not belong.
Well here's my start. I wish ARR did not make Chitra scream Anjali Anjali in the song from Duet.

Suresh,
With the surabhi's sawAl jawAb music as the base ,Deva has put that wonderful piece in various forms thro'out the song manam virumbudhE (I'm not talking about the melody part of the song)

The latest release "Unnaithaedi" by Deva with a song by Hariharan goes..."Naalai kaalai nenjil varuvaala, vandhavudan kaadhal nenjai thandhuvidu vaala" in a carnatic raaga base. This song would have become a classic but for HH's screaming in the high pitch with some chorus "Dhaakshaayani dayai kaatu nee".

Thanks Vijai!
"vandal mahalakshmiye" minus SPB's 'konashtais" - I loved it!
I hate that erie voice (some "vandhudu vandhudu" stuff - enna sir adhu "thrushti parigaaram" maadhiri?) showing up in "kAthirundhu kAthirundhu" from VaidEgi KaathirundhaaL.

SPB singing like a `tiger' in the song `Varudhu Varudhu' (Thoongathe thambi thoongathe) could have been avoided. It spoils an otherwise OK song.

karthi,
glad that u liked my views. even i have the same opinion about the song that u have mentioned. IR has done like this quite a no. of times and in some cases it does sound good.
i felt that the 'koria koria' humming in thalaatudhe vaanam song was apt.

TMS in "Kaathal Raajjiyam Enathu". I thought he was too nasal.
PS in "Thirutheril varum silaiyo". She distinctly went out of tune in the second stanza.
IR in "Malare Pesu mouna mozhi". He practically destroyed an otherwise very melodious number.
MSV in "Enakkoru Kaathali IrukkindraaL". His familiar "grunts" were all over the place, spoiling the song.

I think the conductor's announcements in En Kanmani Un Kaadhali spoilt the melody - it might have sounded new and different then; looking back, the song would have been greater without those interruptions. (I still like this song a lot).

I would like to remove the tune itself from "Take it easy policy". Prabhu Deva and the beats provided enough entertainment.

Here are some more -
Interludes
* The interludes in the song "ILam nenjE vA" from vaNNa vaNNa pookkaL were pretty unimaginative (the second intelude had just percussion and some flute here and there), and could have been more catchy.
* The song "VeNNila mugam pAdudhu" has identical interludes before the charanams. The interludes could have been different, and would have added to the beauty of the song.
* "Ennai thAlAtta varuvALO" - synth interludes for this song were a bad choice indeed- was rather disappointed to find IR wasting the interludes for an otherwise melodious tune.
* "KoottathilE kOil puRA" - the "thaththi thikku thAm" piece that comes in the second interlude sounds like a LP record playing with the wrong speed.
* "PoovE sempoovE" - the violin, synth and tabla bursts in the second interlude konjam sodhappals. IR has woven some fast-paced thriller interludes in melodious songs wonderfully before (PAdavA en pAdalai, yAr veettu rOjA, etc.), but this fell short of the mark !

Great observation!!!
But poovE sempoovE's second interlude ,is really complex and the violins are just amazing.

Do you guys remember 'Raja, Rajadhi rajanindha raja' - using only drums to provide the background.
An enjoyable song..except for the 'papapapa...' rambling somewhere in the middle..

It was only 4 yrs ago that I got 'uchchi vegundiruchu, pichchi poo vechcha kili' song. i thought it was IR singing it but then was told it wasn't. I'd make the song longer & more haunting.I can't describe properly but when I sing it myway from the 2nd bit onwards I'd resing the lines again with a violin interlude etc... & get IR to sing it.I'm not good at describing what imean & will try and clarify later.
Just bfr I went to T nadu in '92 I got into the 'en kanmani kadalee, unai parthadum' song. I used to hum the conductors 'karuvaadu koodu munnale po' bit all the time. I was on a bus from a place near Chidambaram(where they shot scenes for an MGR film 'Idayakani'..full of small canals..weird touristy place)to C'ram when on an already full bus a couple of fisherfolks with Karuvaadu koottu's came in. I don't know why but I blurted out 'Karuvaadu koottu munnale po'. I'm too embarrassed to tell u what happened next.

On similar lines:
(1) SPB in Sangeetha jaathi Mullai and Amma azagey - the "thaanams" are really disturbing. (wish I don't receive threats for this..hmm..)
(2) Surendar in "poojaikkaaga" - The charanams have been literally killed. KJ would have elevated it to heights.
(3) SJ in Om Namashivaya - She has screamed at the end (which pierces thro the ears). A lower scale should have been preferred.
(4) UK in "Hai ra" (not a very good song but..). He is unbearable.
(6) interludes in "Sahiyae" from Andhimandhaarai. They are good but could have been made better by not diverting from the mainstream melody.
(7) the interludes in "Mayee mayee ". the tune of the song is very melodious but the percussion pieces...Oh..
(8) All songs of ARR with improper pronunciation (I don't think IR had given similar stuff)
More later..

srinath,
sorry for the late posting, but i still think that the screaming bit in the "kaadhal kavidhaigaL" song was too much. maybe raja should have thought of a better way to begin such a terrific number.
in "thenral vandhu ennai thodu", KJY sings "idhazin rasangaL enakku pidikkum". what an atrocious line. naan VM-a paaththa mudhal keLvi idhaathaan irukkum. so prosaic!

another distressing trend begun by, who else but VM, is that of using "sundari, manthiri, munthiri", which i wish had not been thought of at all. similarly, the usage of "dhaavaNi" is IMO, too crass.

i think the "yes i love this.." is very much part of the movie. also i think that shriek leads well to the burst of high pitched violins. it also fits with the general high tempo of this beautiful song. somehow, i don't feel odd listening to that.

Hi,
1. Some silly dialogues in the name of reviewing a kavithai - in chinna chinna thooral enna" song. "Mazhaikkunna thaana ezuthirukku .. etc.
2. Unni presence in the song "haira haira" song.
3. One single word destroyed the whole song for me. ie. Kalli in "Poongatrile from Uyire.
4. Such a trivial lyrics for the soga version of
viziyil vizundhu song - some "Annan aanaiyitaar"
some imagination there.
5. All songs in tamil with Udit's voice. (But kuluvalile takes the cake)
6. Lyrics for Varayen thozhi. (not a good song otherwise too - with all that oh yea of ARR)
7. Cell phone stuff in "en kanvinai kel nanba song.
8. I love this idiot .. stuff. I too hate it.
9. Koondhalil meen pidippen stuff in "ennavale"
10.

Mukund,
Koondhalil meen pidippen :
In my opinion it is a good expression. It is just another way of equating the locks to a river. The hero is very much tempted to plunge his hands in her locks and feel them. In tamil, the right word is "thuzaavuthal". But there is one line which is really irritating.
"Kumbittu kaNNadippaen".
The first word refers to a respectable act and the second its stark opposite. I do not know why the poet falls from a hill of sanctity to the valley of indecency so immediately .
