I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Kaumudi/ Naaz/ OISG: Thanks :) I hope to continue the chronology in regular intervels. Hopefully 1979 will go faster than 1978!
OISG, Abhayambika sang a short verse in Thisai Maariya Paravaigal, just before MBK begins with 'Arutjothi deivam ennai aandukkonda deivam'. Of course 10 years later, MBK and Abhayambika jointly composed music for the film 'Thalaivanukkor Thalaivi'

For the first time I have seen such a wonderful job for Mrs.VJ's devotion to music. Vow, it is really very nice to hear that lots and lots of fans are enjoying her melodious and dignified voice. In fact I have a thurst to share her songs since 1980s but couldn't find any.
Anyone is interested to apt for Mrs.VJ's devotional songs?

Saravanan, do you have a blog??? if you don't, please do seriously consider creating one for your writeups on TFM...Though newtfmpage has your "knowledge" logs (klogs??) they are all over the place (except for the SOTD writeups)...A blog would bring there to one spot, without bb having to put in extra effort...

Naaz/Saravanan or anyone else
I heard this song by Vani that perhaps we talked about many many old responses ago called "Mazhaiye mazhai tharum" (Naaz you definitely know what I am talking about!). So does anyone have an mp3 version of this song? Please?

Kaumudi -
I think I have an MP3 version of the song (If I don't I will have it by the weekend :-)) I will upload it as soon as I can.
Mazhaiye Mazhai Tharum is an unusual tamizh devotional. It has a "ghazal" ambience about it. The lyrics are thoughtful too (without being cliched.)
Saravanan -
Request: Could you please upload Amma Undhan in your briefcase and post the link here? I have to have a copy! :-)

Afterthought: You could also check www.vanijairam.com and browse their "Bhakti" segment. It might have a downloadable version.

I checked the website a few minutes ago. The song is available in the Tamil Bhakti section. Page 1.

I see that the song is listed in Tamil-Bhakti section. The trouble is - I don't see this section. In Tamil there are Tamil duets, Tamil solos, More tamil. Can you tell me if I just going around having the song right under my nose?

Kaumudi / Saravanan -
I am sorry to mislead you guys... I checked the Index quickly and saw that it is listed. I did not bother to check if the sections were functional :-(
However, I think I have an MP3 version somewhere and will try my best to upload it a briefcase in the next day or two (if I find it.)

Naaz - I think there is no Tamil bhakti section on the page. Last year, I was immensely moved by one of her Tamil bhajans "thaamaraikaNNan thirupaadam" which was up on the page.
It was overall a wonderful Tamil bhajan collection. As usual, Vani Jairam outdoes herself when she sings devotionals.
Neel, could you add in the Tamil bhajans as well?
Thanks.

I did manage to find the MP3 version of the file...but, alas...the file size exceeds 5MB and Yahoo Briefcase snaps shut without it :-(
Please give me a day or two and I will see if I can do something to shrink the file size (without losing the song!) and get back to you.
AV - In my hearing, all the songs from the album Krishna Gaanam by VJ are par excellence. You must listen to the other songs - random picks - Venu Gaanam Kaetkuthey and Malarndhadhu Margazhi Manivanna - and you will conclude that the are of the same calibre as Thamaraikkannan Thiruppaadham.
Neel D - Do you know who the composer is for Krishna Gaanam? And the year of release?

Hi Neel,
Let me furnish you the list of VJ's devotional album I have.
1. Mahalakshmi Avatharangal.
2. Srinivasa Kalyanam.
3. Perumal Perumai.
4. Thirumal Thiruthalangal.
5. Thiruppaavai.
6. Tamil Suprabatham.
7. Kandhar Shasti Kavasam.
8. Meera Geethangal.
9. Gokula Ganam.
10. Amman Songs.
11. Durga Lakshmi Saraswathi.
12. Amman Padalgal.
13. Sriranganathar Suprabatham.
14. Durga Devi.
You might be having all these albums I believe.
Hope you are aware that all these are treasures and no one can really raise hands to say which one is better. Which eye is preferred, either right or left? We need both the eyes. Likewise to me, every move of VJ in music is a possession.
Let me come for discussion from tomorrow.

Welocme to this discussion!
The devotional albums list you have provided is impressive. It would be beneficial to everybody here if you could talk about the songs you like and why. Also if you can give the year of the album release it will be helpful. Thanks.

Hi Naaz,
I am trying to digitize the albums right now.
Some albums cover nearly 15 songs of VJ. Really you must enjoy that voice dedicated to Music. I would say that we miss something in life otherwise. Really I am running out of time, if not I will sit and write a story about those songs. VJ is VJ, nobody can be equated to that Great Gift of God in our time.
I shall try discussing those songs one by one.
Bye for now!!!!!!!!

Naaz,
-Srikrishna Ganam was composed by Dakshinamurthy Swamigal. It has "vENugAnam kEtkudhE", "thAmaraikkaNNan", etc.
-Krishna Ganam (Vol.1 and 2) were composed by MSV. Vol.2 has "kaNNan avan suruLkUnthal" by VJ.
-Srikrishna Arul Paadalgal composed by R.Ramanujam has "malarndhadhu mArgazi", "pArijAdha malarE", etc.
All three albums were released in the 90s.
-Here is a forgotten beautiful short Christian devotional sung by VJ&KJY composed by MSV. "annaiyE ArOkya annaiyE" from the album "Velaankanni", probably from the late 70s or early 80s.
Mumtaj,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for listing your collection of VJ devotionals. I don't have many of those. I am looking forward to listening to them. Thanks for taking the effort to bring them out to all of us.
AV/Kaumudi,
Please check back in a day or two.
Saravanan,
Thanks very much for the chronology 1979 part-1. That was a nice roundup of the 1979 scene. Looking forward to the upcoming instalments.

This is the first time I am hearing "ammA undhan kaivaLaiyAi". I have no words to describe the experience. Imagination bt Bharatidasan, creativity of MBS and the expression by VJ are simply top class.

Neel,
It is likely that the size of the file can not be accommodatd. I tried my best to shrink it, but no way that worked out fairly without losing the song.
