I was browsing the web. Got some interesting info.
Giving some excerpts from Anuradha Sriram's Interview:

You are basically a classical singer. Was it by coincidence that you became a playback singer?

Yes. I had not planned to become a playback singer. I was doing a Masters course in Ethnomusicology in the US, where I had to write a thesis. I chose ‘South Indian film music’ as my study material. There was not much documented data on South Indian film music, except for some published articles. This in spite the fact that film music is so popular. I was in awe of Illayaraja, who ruled the South film music for two decades and I took him up as my case study. For a music director to become the most important man in the production process of a movie is something great. So I took up Tamil music culture for my thesis, and named it ‘Illayaraja As A Phenomenon In Tamil Music Culture’. In the process, I also studied the various activities involved in the making of a movie. Also, I trained in opera and jazz, and did a course in voice culture under the guidance of Sherly Mayor. Then I decided to give film music a try, and approached AR Rahman. After a month, he offered me the song Malorodu, in the Tamil film Bombay.

  thanks for your compliments. IR has definitely used. But not in every movie and keep typing..let me see how many you're able to do.. 30/31*100 = ~98 percent, ie almost all movies. let me see how much ir has used from your posting(s)...

  Ir was responsible for the degeneration of lyrics. It was in his period that anything was passed off as lyric. He was directly responsible for that. Others follow the trend that's all.

  Thanks for pointing out such stupid lyrics in present TFM. If ga ma pa ni etc etc from Kannodu Kanbathellam is stupid & meaningless for you just becoss it is a song not scored by your favorite MD then nobody can argue. (and BTW, what abt the similar thing at the end of Paadariyen Padipariyen song. Is it also useless or does it make complete sense to you?) And whoever asked about sala sala, it is called rettai kilavi (to denote a sound like kada kada, mada mada etc. which makes sense only as a pair. It comes in Kannodu kaanbathellam song also) in tamizh. illakanam ozhunga padinga. Likewise I can go on for a lot of song in your list. As i said already no point arguing. ARR is the worst MD according to you and no one can change that. Happy listing some other baseless list.....

  This is a forum on Anuradhas research on Ilayaraja.
  
  I thinks these points will add to the research result.
  
  New entrant - Pls. dont blame our friends. Ye Aatha aathoramaa vaaariya type of culture is changing with the currnent MDs. Some how, if you have to remove certain habits, like weaning of a breast-feeding kid, you will have to introduce a soother or atleast the thumb for the child to forget. That is the way you get 'gumchip' stuff. When compared to the GREAT BGM in 'Nethu Raathiri Yamma" (ooohm..chku..chku! Ooohm.,cku;;OO, OO, Aaaaaah! Cheee! - Thaneer oothum megame thagam thaninjitha-!) is thousand times better tamil vocabulary.
  
  Thesis should find which language 'Uyyalaala' came from into Karthikrajas Pandiyani rajyam.
  
  The thesis should also consider points like why S Janaki who came up with Ilayarajah, refused to sing Silk smitha songs or claimed enormous rate for singing them! The answer will stand testimony for Fliflo, asareeri - for they should say "how to name it?".

  Naan solla vandhathu ennanna IR did not use in every movie for his survival. Present MD's use that for padathukku padam, enna ange athukku mela sarakku ille. That was my point.

  my god!!! Lets get some perspective!
  
  I think u ppl must appreciate that it is just not the music director who is resposible for the lyrics, be it IR, ARR or anybody... The film director is the man... he decides the song situation, and he sets the standards. And he has to compromise for the mass taste (or what he thiks is the mass taste) !!! What bloody sense does it make in comparing MDs for the quality of lyrics??? I think enough (and a half) has been said on this. Please refrain from these mindless postings and lists.
