These are the great lines of Kaviyarasu Kannadasan in the movie Ratha Thilakam where he acts in the movie singing these lines. ( Song.. Oru Koopayilae yen kudiyiruppu)
What a visionary he was ? Indeed, he is NIRANDARAMAANAVAN.
I share some of my observations about Kavingyar. I want all the fans of HIM to join this discussion and add more quality material in praise of his great works.
This is the only way we pay tributes to this GENIUS.
WILL WE EVER GET BACK A KAVINGYAR LIKE KANNADASAN ??

Hi,
"Paalirukkum pazhamirukkum pasi irrukkadhu... Panjanayil kaatru varum thookam varaadhu"
- Great lines from a great man.
who else can pen this situation to such a decent and poetic manner. Now days I am fed up with the style of lyrics coming out of "so called" great poets. Even Vaali who was praised by Kaviyarasu has given crap in the same sort of situation
"Padhinettu vayasu.. ilamottu manasu.. yengudhu pai poda.." - What a crap!!
Why did not kaviyarasu identify his successor.. who can give atleast 10 % of what he gave.
Was it kaviyarasu's fault not to make sure that the field gets some one to carry on from there although it is not his job to do so.

Hello Sridhar and others,
Sorry for the delay in replying. This is what I recall
Avan pOrukku pOnaan
Naan pOrkaLam aanEn
avan vEl kOndu senraan
naan vizhikaLai izhanthEn
Tamil poets usually refer to the eyes of
women as "vEl vizhi ". (vizhi = vEl)
It also refers to vizhi=avan (the lover)
as his loss is darkness. This is the
beauty in the above lines.

Ramachandran,
I too love the love the song "uLLathil nalla uLLam." A geat team indeed...Kavignar, MSV, Seerkazhi, Sivaji and NTR...
In Arthamulla Inthu matham, Kavignar has written that while staying in Bangalore, he came across a Sanskrit Pundit who explained him the meaning of
a certain shloka on Surya. The same day this shloka fired his imagination to write
" Aayiram karangaL neetti
aNaikkinra thaayE pOtri"
for the scene in which Sivaji prays to Surya
in the same movie Karnan.

Hi,
I wonder the musical knowledge of Kaviyarasu.. in the song "oru Naal podhumaa?" from tiruvilayaadal.
The over all song is a bliss but I was wondering the inclination of Kaviyarasu in penning that song.
The song is set to raag "Maand". The entire song goes in that raaga and at the end it becomes a concept called as "Raagamalikai" where the raga of the song changes. Means The song is composed of many ragas but in a linear fashion.
It goes to Thodi from Maand, Dhurbar from Thodi, Mohana from Durbar, Kaanada from Mohana.
But what made me surprise is he has used the raaga name in the lyrics itself. This is the style followed by Sri Muthuswami Dixithar one of the trinity of carnatic music.
The lyrics goes like
Isai ketka ezhun"dhodi" varuvar andro "thodi aaa aaaa aaa...."
Enakkinayaaga "durbar" il evarum undo.
Kalayadha "Mohana" Suvai naan andro... mohana suvai naanandro.... mohanam... aa.....
"Kaanada" en paattu thenada.. isai deivam naanada.
Where there wil be a punch on the raaga name.
I have also heard of an incident where kaviyarasu was listening to a concert of Kunnakkudi Vaidhyanatha and he goes to him and asks him to play the Raag "Aanandha Bhairavi" and after some time he is very happy. While asking about it Kaviyarasu told that suddenly he saw his BP is raising. And he asked to play that raga as that raaga has a capability to reduce tensions and blood pressure issues.
I wonder where he learnt all about this Carnatic music.
He is master of everything it seems.. HUH!!

Hi! Ramachandran,
The composition of lyrics and music for 'Thiruvilayaadal' (1965) has an interesting background. The director of this movie, AP Nagarajan, was politically at loggerheads with kaviarasar for quite a long time until 'Navaraathiri' (1964). Impressed with the success of 'Navaraathiri' they decided to bury the hatchet and work together to promote Tamil literature and language - the first such opportunity being 'Thiruvilayaadal'.
KV Mahadevan was the 'aasthaana' music director for APN and together with kaviarasar they combined their skills to come out with masterpieces.
Kaviarasar was seen taking his own time to come out with a suitable song for this situation (for the high-nosed court singer) although he had completed the others. In jest, KVM asked him whether a time frame of one day will suffice for this song. Thats it! The stanza was born immediately and the lyrics completed in a jiffy and the rest is history. It is still a wonder as to how he could have utilised all those raaga titles in such a short time especially after experiencing a mental block.
Three songs in a row which have bearings on one another but for different perspective situations viz. "Oru n aal pothumaa", "Isai deivam nee seytha" and "Paatum Naanae" - all penned by a single author. Thats kaviarasar!. No one has matched this creation. Again, no other poet has written purportedly sung by Lord Siva as an ordinary woodcutter but with all the godly ingredients in it. The other song "Paarthaal pasu maram" is yet another song sung by Lord Siva but as a layman.
The concluding song "Ondraanavan Uruvil Irandaanavan" is yet another unique achievement in serialising (digitalising?)Lord Shiva's form. To my memory no other poet had attempted thus.
See you again folks!
