  Raj, I guess this discussion is veering away from what I intended it to be. Actually I just wanted to convey my 'adhangam' that overall IR was tuning his songs to mediocre lyrics. The "Name one movie" thing was more out of frustration than an actual challenge. Now, it looks like both of us have started trying to dig out isolated examples of good lyrics ....
  
  And regarding Minsara Kanavu, it is widely believed that AVM "bought" the awards.... I am with you totally on the subject of national awards. But again it is my belief that VidyaSagar and Rahman have a slight edge over Raja in terms of lyrical content. Vairamuthu is cliched, and probably lacks spontaneous imagination, but he uses clever wordplay to mask these defects and that makes his lyrics "appear" better to the listner. Sadly Vaali/PazhaniBharathi/Agathiyan and co. are'nt even close.
  
  Maybe Raja should convince someone like Ki. Rajanarayan or Abdul Rahman to pen his lyrics. (I wonder why no MD has used Sujatha as a lyricist ...)

  Karthik, right ho. I am the person who would be interested in reeling off names. But the subject of National awards brings out the worst in me:)
  
  Sujatha has supposedly written lyrics for some YSR album(neenga andha sujathavai thaane solreenga?)
  
  Shouldn't it be
  "Someone should convince Raja to use Ki.Ra and AR", rather than what you have written ? :)

  Well, I said Raja should convince them, because Abdul Rahman had stated his reluctance to write lyrics for film music .... About Ki. Ra, I dont know if he writes poetry, but his prose is so down to earth that he could make a great lyricist ...

  I didn't say that "Aathma" or KM had outstanding lyrics. They were as good or in fact a shade better than lyrics in the songs of other MDs. I could mention plenty of crazy lyrics from other MDs and in comparison to them, IR is far better.
  
  ARR - Mostly nursery rhymes, but ok lyrics.
  
  Deva - This man is almost an 'aasthana' MD for all Pavithran's films. Remember lyrics of "Indhu" and "Sooriyan". I also remember the lyrics of a song from a Sarath Kumar - Kanaga starrer.
  
  "kadhava saathu kadhava saathu mama
  naan ----- ------- venum aiya aama"
  
  There are still plenty of lyrics like this. Once in a while, good lyrics do come. But, in all songs of IR there will be some standard. It is quite consistent. He takes care to see to it that there are no filthy lyrics in his songs.
  
  Vidyasagar - Well, you can say, "nee kaatru naan maram". Well, I will say that it is also more of an algorithmic approach. "malarae mounama" was ok. But, he has also given "akkudhae akkudhae" and "yeh saloma".
  
  So, there is no point in saying that quality of IR's lyrics is not as good as ARR's lyrics or Deva's lyrics. Definitely, quality of lyrics has gone down a bit. But, when compared to other MD's lyrics he is far better. I will give you some more examples :
  
  "vana kuyilae kuyil tharum kaviyae" - Priyanka
  
  "ullasa poongkatre" - Kolangal
  
  Still there are many. Of course, it is not as outstanding (in fact, it is no where near to) as lyrics in old songs (MSV - TKR, KVM kaalathu paadalgal).

  Someone now is trying to map the growth from Rs.25,000 to Rs.2,500,000.That was the last official quote for IR.May be we can workout for other MDs.
  
  MSV received Rs.25 as monthly salary in 1951 and AFAIK charged around Rs 150,000 in 1975.
  
  ARR received Rs.25,000 for Roja( 5 songs+Rerec) and is now priced at Rs.5,000,000 per song(without rerec).
  
  Well, i expect factors like Inflation since 1992,Rupee value since 1992 and prior to 1976,Musician rates increase from 1992,IMF,GATT,EU ,Public expenditure,deficit/Zero based budgeting,MBO,Satelite TV might be used against us.Finally "Numbers does not prove anything" would be used.

  not a great soccer fan.....actually the first futbol match which i saw was France vs Senegal :D .... oliver kahn became too famous durin the course of the world cup to be ignored! ... the golden ball + messin up in the finals

  yeah, am a soccer fan, as an austrian citizen u normally are one as soccer is one of the main sports here...and yes, traditionally i'm a german fan (parents were living there for decades, and me too a couple of years), but another tradition is that austrians hate germans and vica versa...so am stuck between the traditions...
  oliver kahn was ignored? why that? didn't come to know about that...what are they showing u people there on tv (wherever u are)?
  well, but oliver kahn is actually really famous because of this very very short temper...in the german bundesliga (league) during a match he even kicked a player of his own team (who incidentally was an austrian too! ha!), since then he is the most hated german here in austria...
