"Its hard to keep a voice intact for maore than 15 years..."
What a joke! Yes, LM stinks since early 70s. You are the only Mr Know-all. All the music directors (including Ilayaraaja) were idiots to use her voice. Maybe you are itching to show your idiocy and tone-deafness publicly.

Rahman can still extract superb renditions from Lata ji. She should only sing under him

SIva;
>>i think her voice is different from those days, but is still GOOD.
maybe we cannot hear her old style anymore, but she is giving us different flavor which has a punch of its own... try listening to Jiya Jale from Dil Se for example.... not many ladies who are 70 at age can do that!!!<<
think again buddy, what about SJ???

Lata had a good voice. BUt now her voice is a matured one, which will suit for some songs, as in Lagaan or in K3G.
If she sings for 18 year old girl, it doesn't suit her. HEr voice cannot fit for Romantic NUmbers. I am not saying that lata has a bad voice.. I know ,not only I all know that, her voice has changed, and she cannot sing like the old songs. It is enough that She has sung good songs ,no one can just scold her or blame her for not siniging in the same way, as she did 5 or 10 years back. Age does matters in every thing. Even Lata can say that, she has maintained the voice, but it is not true, wea audience have one bad habit, all the things done by superstars or heroes or who ever it may be like our beloved ones, we will agree them. we will never comment about them. We say , "Her voice is simply sweet" as sweet 16...
How ridiculus!!!
We should be ready to agree FACTS,
If u can't agree that she can sound so sweet as in 1970s or 1980s then pls keep quiet, but don't argue that she has good voice that Alka or Shreya or Anuradha paudawal have.
If u tell that she still sound sweet, pls go and hear to "MOrni Bagama", i don't remember the film name, starred by Sridevi, u will know , how disgusting it is.
the song in K3G suited her vocie, so it is a hit. If she had sung the song like "Suraj Hua Madham", definitely it would be a flop...
I am not condemning her ,or scolding her, I am great fan of her, i too know sometyhing about music, so i am commentin abt this.
If u hear songs in Mujhse DOsti Karoge, u will see the condition of her voice, her voice really dosen't suit the heroine's voice or age. That MEDLEY song in Mujhse DOsti Karoge is a real example for that. She sings " Oh Pardesia ..", u cannot accept that from Lataji - the Living Legend of Hindi Music, it is like APASWARAM coming from a VEena. If one string is cut in VEENA, then can u say that the sound produced by that is Heavenly just because it is old or something else..
U should be open for True Facts.
She is not ruling HFM, she is Legend in HFM, History In HFM. She shjould encourage for new singers, she should concentrate in Bhajans or Ghazals. Not in romantic numbers which will never suit her age or her voice now.
RAghu, don't get angry from my words, I am not saying that she canot sing well. But there are some limlitations to her vocie. U take the example of Jiya Jale, that was a hit coz it had classical base. ARR uses arabic, carnatic, hindustani music in his compositions. So most of all his songs are hit.

A favour from Lata fans:
Do you know where I might find this Lata solo:
Yeh Mulaquaat Ik Bahana Hai, Pyar Ka Silsila Purana Hai...
A superb solo from the 80s (music could be RDB or Rajesh Roshan) film Khandan?
If you have a website/link could you please post it here?
Thanks!

Please be advised that many in this forum are more knowledgeable than you are...So, pls save ur behind intact and let no one kick them again...you megolamaniac fool....

I admire your respect for a senior artist! I am sure those MDs were retarded to have taken her. Whether or not she was a nasty woman and suppressed other singers, there is no denying that she was a superlative singer till recently.
And even today, A R Rahman does get beautiful songs from her like in Pukaar. Ilayaraaja too chose Lata for the Lajja song. He could have taken someone else.
Any connoisseur of music would find songs like "aap yun faaslon se", "ae dil-e-nadaan", "yeh bekasi ke andhere", "chaadani raat mein ek baar tumko dekhaa hai" and many others, all recorded after 1975 to be wonderful.
Yes, I post as AV and AVR. I drop the 'R' at times. I am posting under my initials. Unlike you posts under a different name each time :-)
When you say she stank, and that she should have stopped singing then, it means something very rude and quite literally untrue. I am sure R D Burman, Khayyam, Jaidev, salil Chaudhary, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, Vanraj Bhatia, S D Burman, Naushad, Ravindra Jain and all others knew their music. That is why they chose Lata. She recorded songs with people like Bhupen Hazarika, Bhimsen Joshi and Jagjit Singh as well. Those songs were all well received. And Lata's songs of that period move me immensely. Salil Chadhuary recorded an entire LP of bengali songs with her in the mid 80s. Vanraj Bhatia was awestruck at lata's singing skills in his song in Tarang.
Lastly, Lata is not the only singer on whose voice age has had an effect. Age had its effect on the voices of P Suseela as well. P Suseela's songs in the late 70s, 80s, 90s dont sound as beautiful as her earlier classics. The same is true for Lata as well. But the word "stinks" indicates your imbecility. So now you know how the epithets "immature guy", "megalomaniac fool" and "prick" are applicable to you.

Av(r)- Thanks for the tip and info on the MD. I will check it out. This must be a recent addition to MIO as I have not seen this film/song in their archives. It is a beautiful song, picturised on either on Bindiya Goswami or Sulakshana Pandit, with Jeetendra walking along...If the music was by Khayyam then the chances are (just chances) that the lyrics were by Nida Fazli or Shahryar. This is a guess.
Thanks again.

Pranav -
On LLD's urging, I will try to react to your post.
Yes, as you and anwarm30 point out, LM of the 60s and 70s was and is not the LM of the 80s or today (the medley in MDK - is a very very telling reprise which should have never been!). But, I would still say this: LMs songs in the 70s and 80s were still good examples of artistry and control (albeit with a shift in tenor which is only a given with age): Her songs in Ghulami, Zameen Aasman, Kaamchor, Silsila, and even Ram Teri Ganga Maili - were trademark LM. The slip started with Henna, Rudaali, Machis (don't ask me why she got the NA for this) Chandni, Dil Tho...and dilkhush voice was gone. Even Sajda, the album with JS was more a novelty than vintage Lata.
Shreya may be the flavour of the day, month, year. But how long her songs last, and how long her voice is cherished is a question of Time. And as we all can agree - Time not only tells...it also shows (up/down)! :-)

Yes Naaz, what u said is correct. Time it shows every thing.
But still ppl agree that her voice is sweet as "16", this is nothing but their Devotion towards Lata's voice.
Lata is singing for another 5 new films, I don'tknow how nice it will be. we shall hope for the best from Lata.
lata is singing for MD Nadeem - Shravan after so many years. they commented taht " No one can do justice for the song except Lata"
But one thing, Now Lata doesn't sing in full emotion or feeling, she just sings

hello pranav, i think ur making too big things out of simple day to day thing.growing old means lots of changes, they affect evryone, and abt singing of lata,i think eveyone have right to do whatever he or she like. when she will think that its time to take back stage she gona do that belive me.
and i think evry age has its own charm, and i think no wshe cant sing in every pitch but still she can sing lovely roantic songs like "khamoshiya gungunane lagi"1-2ka 4" and "jane dil me kab se hai tu" mujhse dosti karoge"
i thnk these r her nice songs, and she did'nt wan tto rule any more in music industry i think she had enough rule on that abt 60years..that more then want.

If one listens to Lata's voice over the years, we will find that her vocal range has clearly become more restricted which has the effect of producing higher pitches than is required in some of her songs. This, together with breathlessness are the main problems with her efforts in MDK. Nevertheless, at the same time as she has suffered these setbacks, the heavenly quality in her voice has also become dominant. Thus for example, 'Hum ko humise churaalo' where she sounds nothing like Lata pre-1980, but far better. So is Lata better or worse as a singer now? She is better for certain types of songs and compositions, and totally unsuited to others. She should capitalise on melodic, sentimental and soft numbers to the exclusion of all other types of music. This will being her inimtable angelic voice to the fore and captivate the heart, mind and soul just as in Mohabbatein and K3G.Should she retire? Never!. The nightingale, is just that and more so now than ever before.
