The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:
Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?
Andha situation BRkku suddenaaga thondra, VMkku outdoor shootingil irundhu

Folks, please share any such stories, anecdotes and tit-bits that
you know, in this thread. If TFM Group thinks it is sufficiently
interesting, they could even place it in Permanent Topics.

Jones: something about chitra.
This week's "Dabar thEn thuLigaL" (about TFM artists experience)
was about Chitra & her likes/dislikes/experiences.
She started with her OLD favorite MDs - MSV-TKR
She praised their melody and was happy to
sing a song under them in "engirunthO vandhAn".
Her personal favorite of them was
unnai ondRu kEtpEn....from puthiya paravai
Then she talked about P. Sushila.
More than national award - when people compared
her with PS - she was more thrilled...
and the song was:
than nilavu thEn iRaikka - padithAl mattun pOthumA
then came the power-cut and I couldn't see the rest of the programm.
She will host the next couple of weeks programm.
Let you know, if something interesting comes up.

I agree with all your explanations. If IR and ARR and their fans get together, I'll be the happiest person.
But the fact remains, etiquette-wise, it is not proper to return a gift.

NOVji
Many have explained above. VIPs return ponnAdais, malarmAlais, etc., Whats wrong? yellArum kObiththukkondArgaLA? The returned gift becomes a souvenir. ARR has now a souvenir in a ring that was given to him by the Raaja of music.
Oh! Great! If only had ARR had put his foot down and requested IR to wear the ring, there would have been a showdown! So, its nice to see one respecting the other.
In fact, IR would have done this to any other person in ARR's place. Its ARR at the other end, and we fans of either parties are sceptical, especially, fans of ARR:)) But, those who have understood IR, need not worry about his actions....(How can IR do that when ARR the no.1 MD in India is giving him a mOdharam? bla bla bla)
I donno why not a single fan could call the "return of the ring" an opportunity for ARR to have a keepsake from the mighty Raaja!!
As Amarji has well explained, VIPs are cynosure
of prying eyes. Any action is bound to catch attention. So, I would say, IR is the unfortunate soul in this issue. But, its the powerful IR that comes out unscathed!! Thanks to his strong will.
Well, NOVji, thats your personal opinion:)) But, making an issue from a non-issue? Etiquette?:)) Don't you think its wise to light a candle than curse the darkness??:))

Nothing against anyone's love for any artist but is deifying artists and making TFMDF a prarthanai club really the purpose of DF these days? It saddens me that we can't come up with relevant topics to discuss.

KVM wanted to produce something which will make history so he came with a song. He invited all the female singers to do rehearsal to choose the best and the song is Siggaravelane in Konjum Salanggai even the greatest singer of that time time PLeela, could not do it coz the tune is in such a high pic that she said to KVM that she really could not sing and she also said there no one could sing that song so well except SJ. She suggeated that KVM should approach SJ. And the rest is history! The moral value behind this is that last time singers appreciate and respect others in the same field but nowadays people grab whatever that come their way without realising wether they could do it well or not!
Another story about IR. The songs in Annakili is made for LRE.Panju Arunachalam recomended her coz her voice suit all the songs in Annakili the best. But LRE was a big singer at that time, she refused to sing for a village guy is a newcomer with pattikattu rasanai. IR was so angry at her and he approached SJ who he met when he was an assistant to VKV. SJ sung macchana pathiggala which became the biggest hit of all time. Her carreer jumped high. Poor LRE her carreer made a bungee jump. Only singing occasionaly for MSV, she never made songs for IR.

Ananda:
Two comments:
1. SM Subbaiah Naidu is the MD of Konjum Salangai.
2. Your statement, LRE was a big singer at that time, she refused to sing for a village guy is a newcomer with pattikattu rasanai, could
be very wrong (I am not sure). Let me say why.
First, LRE was never a big singer, at any point
of time in her singing career. She was always
looking for chances wherever they came from.
Secondly, during the period you are talking about,
say around mid 70's, even MSV (the only person
who gave many chances to LRE) was using LRE only
sparingly. In fact, at that time point, MSV was
using VJ a lot in his songs, followed by PS and
SJ. So, I am not at all sure whether LRE said
"get lost" to IR in AnnakkiLi. It is quite possible
that IR was trying to choose between LRE and SJ,
but finally decided to choose SJ (which is THE
right choice, IMO).

Sathiya Keerthi - Sorry but your assumption is wrong. LRE DID spite IR and SJ WAS the second choice. IR never forgave LRE for that and LRE has remained bitter about it since. I remember in a recent interview in Radio Malaysia, LRE said that her songs like Vaaraayoa thoazhi vaaraayoa and Elantha pazham are appreciated even to this day, whereas people have forgotten other dappangkuththu songs like Machchanai paatheengalaa? I lost, what little respect I had for her right then.

well, it seems that only two of you enjoying this section. yenggalayum sertukka koodatha?
during the making of 16 vayathinile, Bharathiraja wanted SPB to sing all the songs in it but unfortunately SPB was not available so IR suggested MVasu to render all the songs but Bharathiraja was not pleased with this name as MVasu was some unknown , reluctantly he agreed coz IR insisted. The result was the hit of that time aadukutti mudta ittu which skyrooted MVasu. Since then he was the first choice for all Bharathiraja movies. So what happenned to SPB at that time? well he had to undergo a minor surgery. Actually MSV told SPB that he could not remain in TFM with his sharp voice( i mean the pottu vaitha mugamo type) so MSV insisted SPB to break his voice box to have a better voice. And SPB agreed and the result of this was a few hits lost and a chocolate buttery voice that caused diabetes to all of us which he first gave us through kamban yenbathan and ilakanam marutho in nizhal nijamagirathu. And not to forget MSV, a special thanks to him.

I don't understand why you lost the respect you had for LRE.
I think what LRE has said is TRUE. Even today in TV & Radio,
when they talk/mention about OLD songs - it is the
period of 60s NOT the late 70s.
I can't remember when was the last time I heard
the 22 years old song "machAnaip pAtheengaLA" in
Radio or TV - but I get chances to hear "vArayan thOzi vArAyO" atleast once in 2/3 months in TV/Radio.
Importantly LRE is NOT trying to offend anybody - neenga En uNarchivasapadanum. manail pattathai
sonnathukku PARATTAMA........
In the same line, I read in yesterday's Kungumam..
that ARR has informed "kannOdu kAnbathellAm" NithyaShri
in advance to be available for a day. That day, when
ARR called, MR.NithyaShri said her wife is out of town.
AFter few hours - MR called again ARR and asked
"ethukku NithyA vEnum". ARR got pissed ("vEra ethukku puthusA oru pAttu record paNNathAn") and
used some other singer.
