Lyrics - The Golden 70s

The 70s is a special period for me and holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunately it is a period overlooked by many people and we hardly hear songs from this period nowadays.

Whenever, I have the time, I would like to share the lyrics of some of my favourites and have discussions of this period.

  i assume MGR and Sivaji used spb and kjy more simply to keep their careers extended. they were nearing 60yrs and still acting with sujatha etc.. i heard that sri devi turned down a part to act opposite sivaji bcs of age(i cannot verify this.. but i think she acted with NTR and ANR in telugu). younger voice=younger,fresh image. in 1975 kjy sang in Dr,Siva...malare kuriji malare while TMS sang all the songs for kamalahaasan in pattampoochi!!!

  BTW I crosschecked this lyric with the one posted in TFSA. The TFSA version has the same lines, but the first 2 lines have been switched between the first saranam and the second. Is this because of possibly different versions of the song (different audio & video versions maybe?). Can somebody please clarify ?

  Many songs..among them many were hits..
  
  the one posted above by vgs(nallavarkellam from thayagam) is a fitting example.
  
  afaik bad mouthing(or some difference of opinion) of TMS on MGR compounded with showing himself(MGR) as younger actor made MGR to send his ace playback singer TMS to back preferring KJY/SPB et al. Same is the case with TMS-IR.

  About your post on ManjolaiKilidano, about 10-14 days back, there was an interview with Kavignar Muthulingam on SCV channel, where he narrated the circumstances in which he came up with the lyrics. Competing in the same era with Vairamuthu, he could never get the fame he deserved.
  
  And thanks again for the post, "Raman andalum..". In the days of good old Doordarshan, we used to have a regional language movie telecast on Sunday afternoons. I used to watch Saptahiki on National Network on Saturday 8:00 pm. It was a trailer to the programs coming up the following week and once (in 1987 I think), the trailer featured a song with the hero singing "Naan thaanda yen manasuku raaja". Even this week I was wondering which movie that was from, thinking it to be the opening line of a song!!!! Thanks to you, the picture is clear now :-)))

  Raj is telepathic!!!! Yday he put "Senthazhampoovil" that I was listening to before going to sleep day b4 yday. Today he puts "Ilamayenum poongatru" that I was singing while getting ready to work this morning :-)))))

  Sivakumar's expressions are very much suitable to the way SPB sings it.
