Do not forget Balabarathi - Thalai vasal, Amaravathi, Golmaal - all of these movies had some soul stirring numbers. Unfortunately this man has not had enough chances to prove himself.
Ranjit Barot : Thought he did a fabulous job in VIP, again not enough chances to prove himself in TN
Devendran: Remember Rasigan Oru Rasigai that had 'unakkaagavey naan uyir vaazhgiraen by Janaki', Paadi azhaithaen - By KJJ, Ezhisai geedhamaey- by KJJ, The sivaji starrer which had 'Jaadhi malligaiye, nenjila saanju', 'Mottu sirikkudhu mullai virikkudhu' - quite different notes then.
V.Kumar, Vijayabaskar: many movies when Sivakumar, Muthuraman, Jayachithra, Vanisree were acting - some wonderful songs were made by these folks (remember ' Anbu megamaey ingu odi vaa')
Please think about these guys too while listing.

well sriram made a valid point....but wat to do man, life is such a thing that only some can really come up......in cricket too Pravin amre,Dhruv Pandove,Vinod kambli were more talented than sachin but see wat happened.....
I couldn't help wondering wat kind of percentage share will IR and ARR get if all ppl. of TN were to be asked the same question.....IMO it will be something like:
IR- 70%
ARR- 10-12%
MSVTKR- 10-12%
Others- 8%
just think abt this folks....

Unnikrishnan's opinions about current MD's:
http://www.dinamalar.com/2004june27varamalar/p2.asp
(Mostly related to those songs that he sung for each...he accepts that he could meet only 50% of IR's requirements unlike SPB/SJ/KSC who can meet completely)

I get irritated when people include IR in the mix. Why? His times are over. It's been almost one and half decades since he gave some inspiring tunes. He occasinally comes up with a nice pallavi these days and that's it, he could not even sustain it through half the song. And talk about beats. He's the one who took Rhythm in Tamil Films to boring heights or depths. There's no more creative genius in him. I only see him as a futile mixer of his own constantly repeated souds (yes, I can't call them tunes).
Better include some other aspiring young MD who's already not on the list.

K,
Unfortunately for you, most MDs in the listing (& not in the lists) haven't produced anything inspiring at all EVER, let alone 15 yrs back or at anypoint of time in the history of TFM:-(
That's why IR's name keeps popping up...you can't help but live with your irritability...

" i dont recognise anyone else as a complete music director except the maestro"
Dont worry Arunn. This is a disease similiar to colour blindness. It is called IR blindness, i.e. blinded with IR devotion and therefore after the end of IR era, you have the inability to recognise music.
But there is cure for this. Listen to some of the great songs by other composers and then repeatedly listen to IR songs (again and again). Slowly you will get well.
Praying for your fast recovery,
Guess Me

hey most predictable and boring u(what is there to guess in u), don't bother so much about IR blindness when u urself seem to be plagued by anti IR fanatism. Save your prayers. You need them plenty.
IMO IR ranks first. Let any TFM MD produce haunting quality songs as many as IR and then I may consider changing my rank.
