Hello RJay and UV:
I think you will love this album "Golden Heart"...This is one of my all time favourites.
The reason why I mentioned...please listen to Done with Bonaparte...I wish you could listen to this whole song at once to discover that Staying Alive is a pale imitation of this classic. Mark Knopfler for Country Music a Boon.
You can have a preview of 30 seconds each...listen to everything...you see many similarities with many you know...

Leitmotif : It is a melodic phrase which is often played to denote the appearance of a certain person or words, it is just a label or hilighter.
just a reminder.
1. Nayagan : the Bell sounds comes when ever kamal promises something.
2. Jaws: the cello theme.
On song subject example what is the subject in Monolisa painting? -- does it convey something?

Aditya its sound more like Irish folk music.

these are some interesting and my favourite fusion stuff I found at Guitar prassanas site.
Raghunatha-song based on Ragam Kadanakuthulam set to salsa kind of beat
http://www.guitarprasanna.com/Audio/raghunat.ram
Kalyani connection sweet lullaby like peice
http://www.guitarprasanna.com/Audio/kalyaniconnection.ram watchout for interesting bass runs and percussion in the background. Its a typical jazz peice based on kalyani raga.
Ragbob-based on ragam Kapi

you can visit his site for more samples

Aditya
I listened to RockHeart.
The mood is very good, the drums and bass is very hip too.
Even though you call it rock, the mood is very
soft, like a night time music. It is atmospheric.
If you want to make it into a song, you need to develop it by presenting a contrasting theme and
interplaying the two etc.

The musical collage of Srikanth's Kakkai chiraginilae is one of the best I have heard.

Aditya you have posted this one already.
The changes from different scales are done very nicely, its smooth(esp shanmugapriya and saraswathi). The rthym and bass is also good.
Few things, the sax volume could be increased, the third scale change is nice but it ended kind of abruptly.can also fill up the background with backingup chords to fill up in saraswathi bit just like you did in the first part.
and finally some more some more punch and variation in the interludes could make it even better.
these where some of my observations, and I could be completely wrong on those.
Anyway a very different peice from you
Good work
keep it up

Guys
have any of our MDS used harmonics in thier composition esp guitar, eventhough it may be not necessary for film music. I think ARR has used it in one of his latest compositions?!

What do you mean by harmonics? Which song has ARR used it?

aditya,
in the above track,
1. the lead tone is very close to the bass tone. at times the tune does not get into me because bass tunes over laps. the sound freq's are similar.
Just change the lead something higher than the bass i would say a santoor, since they playing in that does not suite flute.
2. You have played a long lead pharase,
something like
tha na na na na | tha na na na na | tha na na na tha na na| tha na na na | tha na na na |
this repeats 2 twice quickly making the subject somewhat hidden. Being an instrumental it is hard to get it at one go.
if you try to leave some gaps at proper intervals it will sound more good. This will also make the people digest the melody.
also you jump one more pharase where it is hard to remember the first two since i did not have the time to get the lines.
when the ragam is changed to hamsanadham i would change the bass and chord first to denote the change so that ears get ready to receive it
over all it is nice just needs tweaks,
good going bud!.

Thanks a lot for your comments. I like your suggestions on Sound Design. I will remember your suggestion on giving time to digest the melody...
I need to make my scores longer too:-))

Sridhar
A harmonic is a "bell like" tone that is produced by lightly touching a string of the guitar over some specific fret bars. There are other techniques for playing harmonics artificial harmonics, touch harmonics, tap harmonics, pinch harmonics. The one learned from friend is the tap harmonics.I was able to do it in Veenai.
check this article out
http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/harmonics.html
I have tried this on Veena and acoustic Guitar
Aditya if you have veena at house you can also try this
check out the following 2 clips, the high pitch tone that sounds almost like a harp that is harmonics.
But watch the clips closely you will find the player not pressing his finger on the fret but rather gently glides over it and producing the harmonis.
Enjoy
Clip 1 Here is a E minor pentatonic scale using all harmonics
http://www.cyberfret.com/techniques/harmonics/natural/video/harp.rm
Clip 2 http://www.cyberfret.com/techniques/harmonics/natural/video/rush.rm
at 0:09 you can clearly hear the harmonic tones
hope this helps

Vellai Pookal(KM) and Nadir Thinna (PP) have some harmonics, not many though. In Vellai Pookal listen to the guitar at the end of the line "Pillaiyin siru mudhal sirippil" when they sing it for the first time. And in Nadhir dhinna the very beginning of first interlude. (The first interlude has this cool style of playing a solo, muting and letting the note ring alternately.)

Sam good observation.
A)Nadir Thinna the harmonics come around at 1:47 for around 4secs not much followed by muting but still its sweet ofcourse this will be cherished by folks like us it will go past unnoticed by a common listeners(and not needed for them:))
B)Vellai Pookal in the begining 00:16 and then around 2:14
may be Jambavans in this thread can throw more light on this if any other MD have used this technq. in their songs.

Kicha:
Tamboora nadam is really good. Why did you mix Electronic sounds with Tamboora there...it would have been nicer without that distracting sound...Vocal tracks are good...Another suggestion...I think the delay that you used at the end is little extra that the reflections result in off note...
But I still like your other tracks in there.

Aditya

Vanakkam,
I am remixer, who wants to get into the next phase - try to create my own dance tracks. I want to get a good keyboard which I can use for multiple thigns (synthesizer, sequencer, looping, sampling, etc).
I briefly looked at the KORG TRITON. I am willing to invest some money into this. Can someone please help me? Please specify the models as well (Le vs workstation vs 61 key, etc)
nanRi,
DS
