what is happenin to the forum. dull for 3 weeks or so? ok, here is a irrelevant topic, but it is a betting game kind of.
Been following Shyamalan' involvement in hyping and marketing of this latest film. some "Signs" that it could be Unbreakable unlike crop circles. Shyamalan is more a marketing guy than a film maker, and seems to enjoy the attention also. I can see he is disguising his real basis (only aliens from space can scare white people into believing in God, etc....) behind shoddy endings deliberately probably to burst the bubble around him before it got too bad. I guess, he is feeling cooked, even a light music type film Signs made money, so he doesn't have to think and make much effort as he has figured the audiences also are not thinkers. My feelings, Village will have a punished opening collect less than 99 million. OR, it could have a super opening and go 200 mill if the audience forgives his hype but likes his cool attitude. How long can Shyamalan simmer like this with supsense thriller romance drama etc.., unless he breaks out of this spiritual suspense and move on to musicals?????? I have a feeling MNS could survive by introducing song-n-dance-comedy-suspense thriller-family-drama from Chennai itself if The Village stinks. IR' Symphony may prepare the audiences world-wide for such possibilities. Again, do you think IR has a great Symphony for Thiruvasakam as in Symphony Symphony? or How To Name It on Symphonic Orchestra, which will take the rest of the world a few centuries to even figure out what the heck. Anyone has comments about these two geniuses, one trying to break his genre bubble for which he is caged almost like a freak, the other just plain centuries ahead before the world can catch up with him? Will MNS have "contrasting" ideas left and should he not take to musical movies to dish out new stuff? Because MNS has an acute sense of music, no doubt and I can bet his many deliberately slow movies could have done better with some musical moods. He is like Balu Mahendra without IR.

purv, not racist, just the contradiction in MNS movies. all his movies are made for white people and he attempts to touch them with topics they can relate to. now what is the racist in my remark? don't fear, my friend. he only proves the point that to make his mark in Global America he has to think white, even he is scared to feature non-white actors in lead roles as per his remarks about life of pi.
what grief are you talkin of by the way, i am not still in a colony.

purv, everthing is a good thing if we point it out. good you pointed out that point, because i was thinking what is the point, what good will come from this point onwards. as a matter of fact, i was not going to make the point, but since you were pushing the point with a ;--), i thought hey no harm in making my point, as long as it does not hurt.
that is the beauty of the internet, you don't need a pencil or sharpener, just select some courier 10 point font and type it out without bothering about courier or pointer........ it goes on like that and on an on

Saw "villege" last night. Here is my take.
NS is a shrewd director who is taking 'his' fans to a new level with each movie ina calculated manner. Pl. read along patiently and then jump on me, if you wish!!
In '6th sense', he gave a pure mystery thriller with a psychological theme and took the audience for a ride and spun them 360 degrees in the very last scene, that the entire movie has been one as seen by a 'dead person'! Until then, nobody even thought of it, though NS had been planting clues all along the way! Don't ask me if a dead person can see! Even now we [most of us] believe that our ancestors are looking down upon us and guiding us.
In the "Unbreakable", he sought after our 'childhood fantasies' of Superman, Spiderman [comic book characters] characters and posed a hypothetical question-- If there is 'good', there must be 'bad'; 'hot'- 'cold'.etc. Like that, if some thing is breakable, there must be one 'unbreakable'. His genius made him create a character suffering from the 'brittle-bone disease' who resorted to comic books while being in his wheel chair most of the time. Only they can feel the pain.
Do you follow me? From a 'dead person's' perspective in the first, he elevated to a 'physically-sick person's' one in the second.
Let's go to the third one--"Signs". Here he created the 'mentally-sick people' who were imagining 'ghosts' in their minds and were making their lives [as well as others'lives also]miserable. He probed into the fact that each of us have our own 'demons' inside us and we suffer thru this 'demon' all the time. Once, you remove this fear and develop courage to drive this 'demon' out, then life becomes easy.
So, now, "dead person' to 'Physically-handicapped' to 'mentally-handicapped' people's inner fear were the themes so far.
Now, in "Villege', he deals with the 'inner fear' of a particular soceity or group of people, who all have something in common--violence in their families. They are fed up with this insane madness and want to lead a life far from violence. How they go about doing this forms the rest of the story, but by this, NS has come to a group-of-people-level from a 'dead person', to start with and may be, in his next movie, he may target a nation, I feel.
The overall effect of his movies is this. With each movie, he is making at least a few on his fans' list thereby making them all "BELIEVERS" in self and urges them to cast away their inner fears.May be one day, people will have enough courage to deal with atrocities in their surroundings and in the society without any fear!! [Utopic thought, but at least some one is trying]
That's what I've got so far. And, now, let the fireworks start!!

I forgot to add that I am really proud of a fellow-Indian's acheivement in Hollywood.
And, he does it by taking common-man's themes.

He is also trying and striving to take his fans to the next level with this symphony.
Having introduced the audience to peasing ragas set in memorable melodies, he is attempting to reach the next stage-- blending indian music and western classsical set to great Indian scriptures to make them all known all over the world, and playable too.
It is such a laudable notion and thought and can come ONLY from a genius who has a vision.
I am proud of him too!

SK, it only proves that the Gurudom of Maha Bharatham has reached Hollywood films also. All Chandamama stories. Hey, but I admire MNS' class - unbelievable class, style and sense of appropriate music. That is the parallel with IR, class and sense of appropriateness and heightening teh experience with new ideas. But, where is the IR's SYmphonies coming to teach the world about music' power to bring peace to the soul.

Very heartwarming posts by SK and Gyan.
What I got out of that posting in reference to MNS is, Shyamalan is, like IR, one that thinks outside the box, and so MNS and IR would share great chemistry.
In reference to Mr. Gyan, I would like to say that I am also happy that the Gurudom of Mahabharatham is being slowly introduced to Hollywood films, which of late has for the most part been dominated by superficial and even degraded teen [sex] comedies (eg, American Pie, The Girl Next Door, Freddy Got Fingered, and the likes), yes? [I still remember how bad my stomach churned with discomfort as I watched "American Wedding."] Of course, there have been a number of good class or semi-class films released such as "Remember the Titans," "Two Brothers," and the likes. Of course, the biggest room of all is the room for improvement.

Great minds think alike... uh um yes...ARR and MNS, although ARR has had more success than MNS and is more gifted. IR couldn't be compared to MNS nor ARR, he's not a hard worker like our ARR, and it shows on his music, there is no variety , thus his music is very boring.
