Passion for films is I think what made GV take risks like that and pioneered corporatisation. Certainly, only a man of conscience would've taken extreme measures like that. Howevr, he was perhaps one of the very few educated person and perhaps the first professional accountant to be a film producer - what shocks me is a qualified businessman committing suicide without taking other thought out steps, just imagine the plight of the distributors who have not even seen college! Today, people are looking for quick bucks as long as it lasts, leaving others to commit suicide. what was MR doing? maybe he will now make a film called Chennai or Malli about his brother's life. But, how could he think that boys like vijay or ajith can help him recover when stalwarts like Kamal or Rajini are now resorting to all publicity stunts to survive? Particularly, when piracy is rampant. Maybe GV gave his life for the future of Tamil Film industry. Hope that morose cheap minister does something now and stop being a self-serving possessed bi_ch. - coming from film industry cannot help her own community.

MR could have made his past few movies under GV Films to give back his brother some profits. I dont know why he didn't. probably the failure of Dil Se made him keep all films under Madras Talkies

MR should NEVER EVER cast a b-astard like Vijay or Ajith in his movies. He should always go for low-profile actors who do not ask for big salaries!
That should be his revenge on Tamil Film Industry for killing his brother! GV has repeatedly told that actors should bring down their exorbitant salaries.

Heart felt condolences to GV. He is one of the few knowledgeable & decent film producers in TN. In early days always aspring to take TF to higher and global plane. May his sole rest in peace. Let Almighty give enough courage for his family to come out of this tragedy.
May in other thread we take up other points.
a) Financial trouble
b) Spoiling of relationship with fellow artists
c) Huge pay packets to lead artists
d) Security/Kandhu vatti problems
BTW, if KL can bang spectator, same treatment should apply for ML.

ARR cant revive GV or MR, he will make it even worse. one crore for music. Till illayaraja was there they made profit by paying him less than 30 lakhs. money made them change and now it has changed them.

Hey guys this is not the right thread to talk about ARR and IR.G.V was a great man.A brilliant producer, who contributed a lot for tamil film industry.People call him as director's producer.. bcoz he availed all the facilities for a director to make a good movie.Even the recent movies whatever he made, with all the economic crisis he never compromised the quality.Ajith and Vijay are not Rajini or kamal, who brought light to the tamil film industry. So many distributors like sivasakthi pandian have bcome producers by just distributing rajini movies. After 100 movies only Rajini and kamal they demanded their salaries in crores. But nowadays the heros even after their first movie they r demanding in crores.I don't whether they r worth for it.I happen to read that the technicians in the industry just they are getting a mere remuneration. This is really very bad to the Tamil Industry. If the heros want to make huge money let them take the area rights where when the movie bcome a big hit they will also get a big percentage on that.

This "Area" business started from Hindi when Amitabh started demanding Uttar Pradesh rights along with with his pay chek. Now actors as low as Vijay demand areas. This results in a big strain to Theatre owners.
The possible solution could be a concerted effort of financial strategy, technology and law apart from ....common sense!
1.Start buying stories and advertise extensively about the published story -link to the movie.Buy Scripts and make a news of it.
2.Start mini corporates (say pvt limited coy) and keep a corporate face.Banks will certainly have kinder look.
3.Bring in the studio concept like Warner/Columbia...bring in employee concept for all the technicians including small artisits.
4.Make the actors "Executive producers"- Actors like Sandra Bullock,Julia Roberts do that,I believe. This makes them more accountable financially too.
5.Bring in digital techonolgy to theatres and kill CD/video piracy.
6.Start a film channel and any new movie should be funded my the channel created out corpus funds.
This will kill the Channels like SUN,Raj,Jaya which have sucked the blood using their stock of movies.
7.Promote telefilms which can reach out better with a lower investment, like HBO does.
8.Bring back Theatre ...i know this may sound a bit far fethced but history shows that it had co existed well with mvoies and instrumental in identifying new talents.
9.Keep a ceiling on the number of mvoies per year.
10.Ensure that the producer does not land up at Vadapazhani murugan koil gate ,by keeping a min 15% of projected cost for the movie as deposit with the controlling body. The interest will be the body s income.
Now the common sense part
Take a big sewage lorry, dump Chimbu Srikanth, surya,Vijay,Ajith,Prashanth,Vikram,Vijyakanth,Satayarj, his son into it.Drop them at Selayur dump ,with concrete mixture.

OISG,
very good ideas.

such a system did exist in TFM until 80s.
I would like to add a 11th point to it. The media's hand. Do NOT make overnight heroes. A vijay, ajith, maadhavan, srikanth, shaam should prove themselves in atleast 15-20 films with good to super hits, only then they should get the share what a rajini or kamal gets now. Remember, when karthik gave hits like alaigaL oivadhillai, sivaji met prabhu and karthik and told "ok fellows u gave a hand full of hits in your first round. dont think its because of your ability. its more because of your fathers' name. Let me see how many hits you give in your next round and how do you sustain in following rounds". How true it turned to be. Both karthik and prabhu churned out craps and got lost in the tide. MounaRaagam and agninakshatram gave their life back. It all because they were good actors (when compared to the current set of craps) and they kept low profile (again when compared to current set of craps).
It is the media that projects a person whose first film is yet to be released. Craps like "X udan college maaNavargaL or maaNaviyargaL"; "X-kku pidiththa paththu" etc. and all should be banned (or atleast shunned by the media). Media's initial hype makes these craps like vijay to spend initial money and form so called rasigar mandRams and give false proof of that as their fans following and demand in crores.
At the max give 15-20 lakhs for any hero. If more needs to be given then "sell" the a mix of areas rights (not just madras alone kind of areas. it should include even remote village also) to them at the market rate.

OISG, before leeping to Digital tech,
first theater owners to 1) Put on AC for the full show not to 10 mins in the beginning
2) Clean the theaters with much space inthe corners - currently all of them are with panparag
3) Avoid local pettai black ticketting
4) Sell tickets with valid Sales Tax paid
5) Change the Seats (torned & stained)
I remember in Annamalai first week release, the theater owner itself selling tickets in open apart from counter sales, with Rs 20 for everywhere ticket. All the shows have no timing, immediately after the show start another show. NO ventilation , people were standing and watching the movie. In a big screen, right below the stage , our mathiri gunsa picture paartha naal athu. Historically and ever, ladies are the big partronizers for theater movie. If it is a place local kudi magans & pettai porukkies, who the hell will go to theaters. Now ticket sales cost as high as 80rs, but conditions have not changed. Now Abhirami theater are selling internet tickets, but 10 mins ac funda still enforced. If if thirutu vcd stops, most of the families still buy the originals and avoid theater.

With regarding to high cost to heros, remember rajni's comment. Odura Kuthirai mele panam kattuvarkal. If Ajay or Senthil is a winning horse, I am sure every business man would bet on them. Why before the agreement don't they know it. Still they prefer Chimbu rather than Film institute students. How many talented artists are there. Only few likes Abhavanan attempted this. These producers (mostly milagai merchants in some andhra villege) have no clue of scripts etc. They just invest in heros face. If Ramanarayan can invest in Snake and Monkey still want Ramya to act (!), let them pay it. They pay such a lot to hero, they will pay pittens to technicians and assitents. Once Revathi mentioned geting a payment is a herculean task. So first producers work & any payment should become transparent then others will soon corrected.

the thing of accepting a hero only after giving x number of hits is in vogue in AP. i read this in some mag recently. only after a hero gives 5 hits, he'll be invested big. or else, down the drain.
all TF needs is good stories and rest, ppl will take care.
