Subbu
You bored us so much about LM's tough childhood / background etc. Are you thinking that IR was born in Music Academy
hall and brought up in AVM recording theatre... ??
Nethi Adi..
Well, LM can be a great Singer...there she stops. IR is a great Composer. There is a difference between those two.

LV,
It leaves us, where we stood before, we started.
Anyhow, pl send us the link, or book names. I would like to see what it says anyway.
**
No you misunderstood me again. There are many who like ARR more or equally. As far as people liking Alka more, I've never come across that so far.
**
I don't know. Now the media already started calling alka as young nightingale ( LM being indian nightingale). Now in 10/20 years by now, there is going to group of people, who is going go aha-oho over alka. Guess what, all other better singers we have currently will be labelled as bunch of useless people. Now I am not questioning whether it happened for lata too, but what I am suggesting is, when media started hyping things,
it can create a wrong illusion in the future.

Dear Subbu,
>>>You bored us so much about LM's tough childhood / background etc. Are you thinking that IR was born in Music Academy hall and brought up in AVM recording theatre... ??
ANS:
I know IR has also faced enough problems himself in his childhood!!! But YOU- MR 'LOYAL' TAMILIAN- who did not know about Lata's background, for your kindest info.
>>>Also, in a typical NSCM style, you are trying to divert the topic by instigating the usual IR/ARR fight by making a sweeping statement that ARR=IR.
ANS:
I see!!! If I adore LM, I am NSCM. If I adore ARR
(and I never said I dislike IR) even then I am NSCM. I wouldn't call this double standards, but multiple standards.
Dearest Subbu, I made a mistake by trying to make friends. Anyway, I have heard lots of Tamil as well as HIndi FM. The basic problem with you now is that you are INSISTING that you are right. You are not considering the other persons side at all, and neither do you show any keenness in listening to the works of other musicians. If you were to buy a cassette entitled 'Best of Chitragupt' or 'Best of Ravi' or anybody, you would understand who they are. Their knowledge of multiple styles of music, their ability to give so much with total lack of advanced reording techniques, their ability to convey so much melody through apparently simple tunes.
Also I never said anything bad about ARR. God forbid!!! I said Bollywood music is pathetic today, but I always said ARR is great. His presence is like an entire river in a desert. I also said how the very mediocre Hindi MD's of today are copying ARR's tamil and hindi songs. In fact, I also said about one song being copied more than ONCE. Subbu, you've got frustrated with your own self I think. But take care to go through my postings more carefully next time. I know, I knwo, there are many bitter pills to swallow, but make an effort to be more balanced.
To e-hari,
If a journalist were to say bad things about LM that's fair is it? But if he were to say something good about her, its hype!!! Come on, I am surprised YOU have said this (If Subbu said it, i wont be surprised).
As far as the links, read the RMIM page fully. Read the writeups on Anil Biswas.Madan Mohan,Salil C,RDB,SDB,ShankarJaikishan and Sajjad Hussain. And there are many more. Also read about ARR. As for more links, read Lata's interview on rediff.com,geocities.com and a series of writeups on
http://members.tripod.com/gaurav-kumar/latam.htm
http://www.indianmelody.com/
http://www.sruti.com/january/arch1.htm
If these are insufficient, google search on her.
As far as the books, read Raju Bharatan' biography. There are many more of hers, including several ones by Marathi poets. If possible read her Marathi autobiography (Phule vechita- This is probably one of the few Marathi books I ever read)
There is one more link with lots of interviews by Alka,Kavita,Khayyam,Naushad,Gulzar,Manna Dey and many more.

LV, in all your postings I haven't come across a single reference of a TFM song:-)) Or, did I miss? You have simply told you like IR-SJ songs, there's much more to IR than those SJ songs:-)) BTW, have you ever listened to `poongathavE'?

Dear eden,
Do you want a long list of my IR favourites??? One page might just be insufficient. Of course there is much more to IR than his work with SJ. He has given roaring hits with almost all singers-
PS,SPB,Govindrajan and even Vani, besides Yesudas.
There's hardly a song of his that I did not like.

to my best friend Subbu again,
I just read your response on another page.
Are you trying to compare Annu Mallik and IR??? Please dont, IR is so much better???? My god - even dreaming of this is silly!!!!
I wish IR had got the award. The songs of Refugee were a bit more tolerable than most present day HFM songs, but 'Jise tu na mila' is a straight lift from 'Satrangi Re'.
You know here - I dont say things just to prove my point - like you.

I haven't replied back for quiet some time.. But I enjoyed your postings.. You seem to be well-informed on HFM...
However since you have enjoyed the roaring hits of Govindarajan (Is it SeerGazhi?) songs with IR, can u please name a few! I really want to know what they were?

What is there for a surprise. It is true that alka being hailed as next nightinagle, and it is far from truth, obviously. Defenitely media is playing the big role here.
As for as LM, one can find there are more articles praising her and only few articles ever criticized her, that too only recently, May be you know it better.

Read my note on the opening of that thread before you start your usual blah blah...
I would never dare to compare IR with AM. I just wanted to discuss the music (songs & BGM) of Refugee to know how better it is compared to Bharathi... because as you very well know I rarely listen HFM. I thought someone like you would tell how superior is Refugee's music than Bharathi.

Dear subbu,
Yes I did read your opening note properly before starting my usual 'blah-blah' (that was sweetly put though - I'm amused). I am surprised that you actually even thought a comparison between AM and IR is possible.
What do you think, I am some anti-IR person out here is it??? See praising ARR,LM,any other worthy MD(& I dont intend writing down that whole list again) does not mean demeaning IR.

No point in saying this. I have also said like this many a times. No body is out there to listen. Some of them here started naming me as hc ARR fan and some literally started bashing me. I don't think that these people can understand the fact that many can listen both these great's music and still enjoy them both. I don't know why we should only restrict to IR and not listen ARR or vice versa.
You mentioned about ARR being popular with your hostel mates. That is what I really appriciate. It doesn't mean IR is inferior or so. It's just that ARR has been able to cross the barrier of north and south easyly and effectively and could well establish himself in both kinds of music.
I toally agree, somebody mentioned here that north Indians say every thing hindi as Indian and they don't give credit to other language at all. I am very angry and totally disappointed with such Hindi speaking Hindians. And to see a guy from SI, getting due recognition in NI inspite of the fact that he knows a very little hindi, is some thing which I really wanted to do. If allowed, I will put these hindians under my foot and teach them how to respect their fellow countryman, no matter what language they speak.

Dear Common friend,
Yes even I agree. I would never like those kind of people who say that only Hindi is worthwhile. This remark was passed by Subbu wrt classical musicians. He basically resented that Lalgudi Jayaraman, Mandolin shreenivas and L Subramaniam havent got their due respect from North Indians- true very true- but again I told him how we Tamils sometimes too are totally ignorant of some very worthy artists from North, in fact we have not even heard their names.
Anyway, I also said sth. about N Rajam. Despite being a southie, she picked up Hindustani classical violin, and has reached the top position. I'd been to her Violin concert a few years ago in Bombay. Twas impressive, really.
I hope I've not created too much of a row on this page!! I just saw the home page of this website and this discussion was the 'hottest' topic of the day. O jesus!!!
