Hello everybody...
Its really been along time since I visited this part of the web. "Hello" to all the new enthusiasts, composers and geeks!
Srikanth...Listened to your new comp. I can see the effort you put on to it. Nice work overall.
The mixing is very shrill as Swamiji pointed out...the slap bass goes more with the cymbals.
Also I think we both have very different views about how a BGM should be.
For me, it should be very melodic and sharp...does not neccesarilly mean a lot of
intruments and progressions.
Very confident singing by Rjay.
Aditya: Yahoo seems to be very slow..I was getting speeds like 2kbps.
Jay.

I have uploaded a new composition:
Dance of the Raindrops
As raindrops fall from heaven to earth, they fall through different temperature zones, pressure zones and face breeze or storm. Nevertheless, their journey is a dance throughout.
I have tried to create different moods in this short composition - starting calm and happy (heaven) and ending down to earth!
comments welcome,
RJAY

Srikanth great job. The best thing I liked is-- you have total control over the tune and the sounds. Good recording too..Krishna, right!. I think much more is store in you guys. Once again great job guys.

Listen to "Simple" - this is a unification of Veena and Piano Sound with a Software Sampler.
Raga? I still don't know the raga - it's derived from from Chakravagam.
Sa Ga Ma Da Ne Sa
Sa Ne Da Ma Ga Re Sa
Besides this score, there's "Making of Song". Give a try and let me know your opinions. Well if only you want to:-))

Aditya,
Thanks for your comments. Listened to your composition. Where is Veena man? I thought you'll play veena like what you have played before. Can you play the same piece with good gamakas?
correct me if I'm wrong.

Naveen:
Used sample of the open plucking of the veena sound and fused/tweaked it with another piano sample blah blah. I don't know if ( rather I wanted to experiment if ) there's any special value added with veena sound. But from my gadget learning point of view it's quiet an involved task. As a Carnatic veena player I haven't contributed much in this composition.
A good exercise though...

Aditya

Jay - sounds good, nice clear recording.
Though musically i did not see much in this.
I expected better chord change overs and arragements. Sounds more like an army flag march :) than "lost love" I felt like this because, timpini (also called as the kettle drums) is often used show an impact in the score rather you have used it as main percussion!.,(which is ok for indian movie back ground scoring:). These are my first opinions. I will give more clear view when i hear it with my monitor phones!..:)
also
Aditya your song was good man, nice melody, keep it up. expecting more!. and thanks for moving away from the everslow yahoo briefcase :),

Hey Srikanth..
Thanks for your comments. Good to get a negative one! I go everything by the sound...I'm not
trained in music as such. This is what I come up with siting with the Triton everyday after work. I wasnt aware that timpani is not usually used this way. Good to know. But the song appeals to a lot of other people I know who are into my kind of music and who's got nothing to do with Indian or Tamil music. They feel what I want them to feel - Sadness..and I feel the song has that.

"But the song appeals to a lot of other people, :"yes 100% true, same happes to everyone, when we feel we have done much, we get good reviews! for those simple songs :), we struggle to do some arragements etc thinking it will go well, it fails..someone here told, "we cannot compose to impress everyone!...." which is true.
also when we are talking about sound!,
you have used the std vilon combi and sax combi directly from triton, If you give more prominence to sound (here too I differ I consider music to be nothing but a collection of sounds in a structured manner)
U might consider changing the factory default! and get a new sound all together, you might achive you goal, if you feel my comments are hard:) , please pardon me I just took the liberty!... to share what i know.

You're right about "we cannot compose to impress everyone!...." but you got my idea of sound totally wrong...I didnt mean the individual sounds..its about how it all sounds together..layered. As you said..."collection of sounds in a structured manner". I agree. And sometimes you have to keep it minimal to get the mood for the song. So i find nothing wrong in using factory presets...do you mind if Rahman used say, program no.675 from a XV-5080?? would you know? And your comments were not hard at all...good to share the idea...hope you took my comments about your songs the same way. :)

program no.675 from a XV-5080??
90% of the time I would know,Jay, belive me ,
:), secondly rahmans music/sounds cannot be compared here with us!, he is way ahead.
I have met musicians who will tell you the sounds params! used on a sound! they are one step ahead!. Getting a new sounds for every song is an art!...by itself. Anyway this is big topic, in my tracks i make sure i create some new sounds in incorporate it. see u later got to go out:)

Does a musician using presets make him any less musician??? MAy be they do when you get to Rahman level..but for the normal souls?? And I didnt expect comments like "Sounds more like an army flag march" from a fellow musician...I have nothing against negative reviews.I take it seriously and learn from experience...but this was laughable.

Jay, it sounds like you got really "irritated" by my comments --- mind it they were just mine, my comment does not tell the world the song is poor!. In this page we are supposed to give geniue comment for our benefit!. I could have said "excellent" work! , but I thought it would benefit you if I tell what I felt really, that was my genuine commment!.,
yesterday happened to those days where I am was really free and hence I took a closer look. Take is easy!...negative comments are bound to come when you make something public. This is part of every artist's life. simply I got used to it!
Hope you understand.
