1.The 'Yuhi chaala ' song from swades was orginally composed for Lagaan .
2.Harris Jeyaraj worked with him only for 2 films !!
3.On today's music -
"What is today's Tamil film music all about? They are nothing more than fast numbers or remix downloaded. What took me weeks to make music for a "Gentleman" or "Rangeela" can be done today if you have a computer, software and then pre-set the rhythms and you have a disco number! Fast music is no big deal today as anyone can become a music director"
4.Rajiv Menon film in tamizh .

Vijay:
I just caught sight some of your replies on a previous page, here're my responses.
"When I find more time I'll ferret out links for you, but recently in a Tamil magazine (few months back)"
Sorry to do a tit-for-tat thing but I'll retain the right to reserve judgment until and if you produce that link. Also a string of commercial flops since that article must be taken into consideration, since it's bound to have an effect on his paycheck.
"He is obviously being considered as top composer in India for now atleast by Western sources and that explains why he and not YSR or Ismail Durbar was invited to compose for those films. Even IR's first symphony lead to nothing but you cant write that off as some sort of non-accomplishment."
If the so-called Western sources are not following up on their intial enthusiasm I take that as proof that Rahman has not had the international impact that the Indian hype and his fans would have us believe. Even if they, sometime in the not too far future, do choose him to be the token Indian exotic import, that says nothing about his ability to deliver high-quality and/or successful Indian albums. I frankly don't care about Western endorsement of Indian talent they don't understand yet want to exploit.
"And "they" are a minority here. Otherwise, Rangeela wouldnt have been a super-deuper hit nor would Rahman "
By here do you mean this forum, or this state, or this country? Whatever be the case I see sales slipping in all sectors of Rahman's market. See this report to get a feel of the current market situation: http://www.planetbollywood.com/News/n2604-194504.php
Harking back to Rangeela(!) and Lagaan is resting on past laurels, period, especially when you avoid mentioning the string of flops in the past few years: Tehzeeb, Lakeer, KKS, Yuva, Dil Ne, Meenaxi, the list goes on.
"The difference is that ARR brought and continues to bring in a LOT more new to the table than these composers. If you want to talk just music, without bringing the commercial aspects into it, I can do so quite comfortably."
Sure let's do that. Where do you want to start? I'll put up one innovation that others made, while you tell me what Rahman brought that was more trend-setting or trail-blazing. Alright, YSR used trance before Rahman in the title song of Puthunkottai Saravanan before Rahman did, and did it better. True the movie flopped, but we're talking about the music right? Rahman's use of trance in AE is a pale shadow of the PS song. Now you tell me one.
"You can still classify songs as IRish or ARRish. But it would be a miracle if you hear someone classifying a song as HJish or YSRish"
That says something of your own restricted listening rather than being reflective of the larger world. Dhina's Manmatha Raasa started a trend that can still be observed in Tamil and Telugu films. Quite a few songs now are Dhina-ish whether listeners so categorise them or not. Jassi Gift's hit Lajjavathiye sounds nothing remotely like ARR. If you only observe ARR-ish songs, while using notions like gaana/mass to dismiss everything else, no wonder you feel NOTHING of note has happened since ARR's arrival on the scene.

I don't think it is right to judge the position based on MR/Shankar's preference. It has got to do more with understanding between the MD and director than other factors. Yuvan has rightly said people will not opt for a new MD while the combination clicking well. Until the combo clicks well, directors will stick with a particular MD. So it is irrelevance who MR/Shankar chooses for their movies. MR is nearing his career end. I don't think he will be a deciding factor/leading director in TFM. We need to wait for Anniyan to see if still Shankar has stuff to deliver.
There was this news on sify.com when AE came out saying that no one was willing to buy the audio rights. Finally Sony came in and helped TB out from embarassment. This will tell the market position he is in. New audio was released by SJSurya himself. He produced the film and my guess is there should have been a negotiation to balance the audio rights and his salary.
And new genres in TFM introduced after TB's arrival: Garage style and hard rock songs in - TI, soft rock numbers - PS & University. Though only a handful of songs are done, it is evident that people are trying different things. I think it will be hard to find a new trend coming to TFM soon, since everyone has got the same tech. I think KR, VS, Deva have got some experiences using synth as well as manual orchestra. We can comfortably leave Deva from the list. If KR does everything right (from the right singers to good mixing), he can do soemthing different from the present day MDs. But unfortunately he chooses bad singers and does not able to find good projects. On the negative side, he worked with his father for quite sometime and he tends to apply the same style. If he comes out of that shell and does someting like ullasam, he can make it.
paran:
I can call you names easily but i am refraining to do it. Because there will be no difference between you and me then.
Reg. stars visiting singapore/malaysia: They know that people in these nations are willing to pay high price to see them. Also those are the destinations close to India, it will take only 3/4 hours for travelling. But audio sales is a complete different thing. Who does better in Tamilnadu audio circle is the MAIN deciding factor for the audio sales.

--- Rahman: “See, there are different ways of doing it. What some composers do is have a team of assistants. One takes care of rhythm arrangements, one takes care of the strings and so on. You give your assistants a basic tune and they do the rest in a couple of days. But the feel will never be yours."
I think TB has been doing the same way.. why he is accusing of others doing it as if he composes everything on his own?
Reg: raaga/cinesouth: I beleive you are talking about raaga.com website. I don't believe in online stats where people vote their fav. mds. If that reflects the true market trend, TB's every album should have been hits according to tfm page vote list. But he has been biting dust for 4 years in a row now. I don't think he will be back in future too.

On Behalf of A R Rahman
A R Rahman, hereby wishes to clarify to all his fans, music lovers and supporters that the interview carried by 'The Hindu' has misquoted him in some parts.
Infact, whilst Rahman was talking to the journalist, there was another journalist talking to Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of Swades so the whole environment in itself was a bit cacophonic and chaotic and not conducive to a proper 'sit down' interview.
(1) A R Rahman at no point of time made statements like,"watch out for the English track in Kisna. It will give Celine Dion a run for her money". Rahman is no one to give certificates to people / artistes and he would never dream of talking like that. Infact, that part had been reported in a Goa newspaper earlier.
(2) According to Rahman, Harris Jayraj has only worked with him on 4 movies (Padayappa & Thakshak being some of them) and to call him his assistant was not fair to Harris or was the right thing. He only meant to wish them good luck in the true spirit of the word.
(3) A R Rahman also gave his opinion on technology and the changing times when he said that what used to take him weeks to compose could be easily done in a few days nowadays. What Rahman means is that that is the future of music and technology in the days to come and that with passing time, a lot of tools will be available to make everything look simple and easy.
(4) Rahman also said that his forthcoming projects include movies by K S Ravikumar, S J Suryah and probably a project with Rajiv Menon which is still in the initial stages. There are no projects with Dhanush at this stage.
(4) Lastly, Chennai is still Rahman's home and he is open to doing meaningful movies both in Tamil and Hindi. His international projects do take him out of India but that is only expected. After Bombay Dreams in Westend and Broadway, Warriors of Heaven and Earth, Raaga's Dance with Vannesa Mae, he is currently working on the stage version of Lord Of The Rings.
Hope this clarifies everything and that there will be no more confusion and chaos.
Peace & Love to All
Vijay Iyer
