TFM DFers,
I plan to be in Madras this winter, and will be carrying a huge list of songs that I have compiled from inputs of all of you fellow TFM DFers. I am interested to know which are the really good places in Madras where I can get quality recording done. I would also request you people to suggest me the best quality of media, other than CDs, what make and type of tape that I should use for quality recording.
Your inputs are surely welcome. Also, if anyone wants me to make any specific recordings, you are welcome to email me. I will make sure that I will get them done.

dubbing songs.Infact he has given casettes for recording in Ashok nagar.
Guess this puts to rest all the confusion.

Yes he has all the good collections of IR and ofcourse the old stuff.
Infact guys there is one more guy to record real oldies. This is Pallavi in Arcot Road.
As soon as you get down from Kdmbkm bridge towards Nungumakkam u cross the Mahalingapuram signal and go further down after the first left cutting (madras tha-nglish), second or third shop is pallavi. You can *very easily* miss the shop.
He has wonderful old collection. Last i got oldies recorded from him was some 7 years back. I always like the old songs with the light hsss ing sound of the LP player. waaa!!!

Well, the fact not all songs in a cassette/album are good is something we have to live with. CD changers in the US are popular mainly because of this. Bands have to try 9 or 10 songs to get one or two right (in the perspective of the customer). Actually, buying a album will give you a whole idea of the technique that the band has used. For eg. in Agni Natchatram drums are used predominantly in all the songs. The fact that in tamil two to three comes together should be perceived as bonus. Or may be the Indian CD producers should start including the soundtrack as well for the moview and put just one movie in one CD or cassette. I have 'eeramana rojave' in once cassette. No other movies in that cassette.
Well, in my opinion cassettes tend to wear out. I always prefer buying CDs. Since they are costly I have to think hard before buying them. My brother who lives in Madras buys one or two CD per month as a routine. I think you just have to bump this up the priority list in your budget. It is really worth it. Hopefully, CD prices will continue to fall.
Anyways, does anybody know what speed the LPs were made in India. I might the LPs themselves instead of recording them on cassettes. I hope to get them at good prices now. (Can I ??)
In another thread we are discussing IR fans are discussing how they can bring out a new IR album. This kind of practice (copying) will hurt us who are planning to put $1000 into this venture. So this is not a intangible topic. People like this will be stealing money from our wallet.
So I kindly request your understanding and cooperation.

A slight digression on this thread - Good shops in CALIFORNIA.....I'll be in California week after next, and would really appreciate your help on Tamil Film/Carnatic music stores there. Please can you give me the following:
> Addresses of any very good Carnatic CD/cassette stores - The closer to Oakland/Berkeley, the better.
> Approximate prices of Carnatic/TFM CD's cassettes
Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

kiruba :
It is not a question of good/bad song ratio in an album.
Why are devA/kaNmaNi rAjA (he is an MD) being dumped on me with rAjA's songs ?
avathAram is not available (on CD) with any other rAjA movie or alone. The only option is to buy it with 'muthu kuLikka vAreegaLa'. Oriental records is ok - at least you get all rAjA songs.

pg,kruba,pk and others.....
my understanding is like this (someone correct me if iam wrong).
ippa oru cassette release pandraanganna, antha padathoda cassette thayarikrathu say companies like Echo, Pyramid etc etc... Intha companies vanthu some huge amount koduthu cassette reproduce pandrathukku rights vaangaraanga. Ippa adikadi we hear about some XYZ movie cassette velieety vizha apadinnu. Antha tiathula(Time in thanglish :)) ),
verum andha padathoda paattu cassette matum dhaan release pandraanga(like for eg i have cassette like Sindhu bairavi, Thiruda thiruda, MMKrajan, Thalapathi etc). after some time(after the movie is released) the cassette company has the rights to put them on a combo. This is the time when they start to mix the movies. This time what they do is to make money(obviously), they start to combine their less selling albums with good selling ones (like i had mentioned earlier Minsara kanavu and Vijayakanth crap i have). So that now they know, people will buy this, and their less selling album is also selling now.
answering to the question why IRs songs are combined with some other crap MD songs.. What i think is (ofcourse IMO), the cassette company has rights only to combine for those which they have rights, so they follow the less selling and best selling formula.

muthax:
i think what you say makes a lot of sense to these cassette companies. For them to make money out of the good albums, they tend to release them along with some 'kadi' movie songs, so that they can cover up for the money they poured into the 'dhanda' movie's songs.
well, i don't see any other suggestions about good recording shops. so, far, we got only three or four places where I could go, but that i think may be good enough with all those backings that I have from all of the other about their experiences with the respective shops. Let us come up with more, I am sure there are much more than this and by contributing more to this thread, other can also benefit.
May be other people should post responses about recording shops in other cities like Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Salem etc. so that people from those places can also benefit from this discussion, I think as of now we are only discussing about recording shops in Madras, and that too around Mambalam, T.Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Mahalingapuram etc. Let us expand the scope of this discussion to other cities in Tamil Nadau, and then later to Other cities in India like Bangalore, Bombay, Delhi, etc..

Hi!
Any of U know about where we can record CD's?
I heard that in Madras some shops have the facility to record our assorted songs in Writable CDs. If this is going to work out well, we can get assorted recorded CDs for very less price. Here is an example. In SAMS club 10 writable cd's costs around $13. Eventhough the CD recording costs us Rs. 200 in India (approximately $5), so we can get one CD with our favorite songs just for the price of $6.

There is a good audoi recording shop in kamaraj salai, virugambakkam called Anudh audio. this is close to the avichi school bus stop which is 2 to 3 stops away from vadapalani bus depot.
you can get old and new songs recorded from CD to tape.(great collection-good recording too)
