There are many many wonderful songs in old TFM (especially belonging to the period before 1980) which many of us have heard and enjoyed in the days of their popularity, but, as years rolled by those songs came to be heard only rarely. This thread is an attempt to unearth such golden oldies. Those who have longed to hear such songs can make a "nEyar viruppam" request here. In response, those who have the songs can convert them into MP3s and share it with others here. Through sites like coolgoose.com and Yahoo briefcase, it is now possible to do such sharing easily.
As rare songs are unearthed and brought out as MP3s, it would be natural to listen to them and discuss them here, so that this thread does not simply become just a set of requests and supplies.
My sister Sathya Kabali has a large collection of rare TFM goldies in cassettes and she is in the process of converting them into MP3s and putting them in coolgoose. The songs she has uploaded are available at this link:
http://www.coolgoose.com/go/music?user=sathyakabali&go=1
(You need to get your own coolgoose account in order to download.)
I would also start uploading MP3s of rare songs to the same link. For sure, you can look forward to a great set of songs being added to this collection soon.
We look forward to enthusistic contribution from many forumers.

Saravanan,
Yes, I fully agree with u. This song of Jikki easily shows what a wonderful singer she was and that she was not utilised to the full. Was her marriage to AM Raja anything to do with it as I have heard he became unpopular with the MDs? It's sad. If I am not mistaken Jikki did not sing much after around 1960 or 61, specifically after Then Nilavu (what a musical score by AMR and what an MD he was!) till the late 60s when she and AMR sang again the good song 'Senthamaraiye, Senthen Ithazhe, Ponnoviyame, Kanne varuga'. Can any one in the forum list the duets sung by this husband-wife duo and their MDs? Would be a wonderful and useful posting.

Hi all,
Can anyone give more info on the singer cum poet V N Sundaram. Why didn't he become a frontline singer in TFM despite possessing a wonderful voice and diction? As far as I have heard only GR gave him chance. Can anyone throw more light on this TFG personality?

The song you are thinking of is Kadhal Nila Theindhadhey, Poo Malai Nee Soodum Velai Kaindhadhey? From Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum. MD: VS Narsimhan. A fine melody, sung smoothly by SPB.
I've been looking for this song for a long time as well.

Hi all,
Some weeks ago I had posted a query regading an excellent and melodious duet by TMS and P Leela and had asked whether anyone can tell me the film in which it appeared. SK and Saravanan could not quite pin-point the song and had asked some more details. I took the opportunity to listen to the same a few more times today (it's recorded from Radio Ceylon some 25-30 years ago) and I can add a few more details of the song which goes like this.....
P Leela starts humming, after a beautiful BGM denoting clearly that it's a song sung by two people going in a boat, then begins the song 'Vaazhkai Odam Oda Vendum, Senru Karai Sera Vendum, Inbam Kandu Karai sera vendum'.
In the second para Leela again sings.....Inba Thunba Alaigal, Serndhe Vazhiduvom' and TMS takes over and sings 'Adhaip paarthu paarthu Thuduppai Matri Matri Pottu Vazhi Parpaduve Inbam Thane'
Then the song continues at a faster pace with Leela singing 'Vasantha Kaala Thenralaip pol vandhai, En vayadukkiniya Inbame nee thandai' and TMS follows with 'isainda vayadil neeyum naanum onrai, Ini Inaindu Vazhndu Inba Kathaii Kanbom' and the song ends with a crescendo BGM like someone drowning or the boat itself sinking. The ending reminds me of the Jikki song (in the film the beautiful, but unknown actress who is his wife, is being pushed out by MN Nambiar) in 'Then Nilavu'.
Would very much appreciate if anyone can throw a light on this song, like from which film and who is the MD (a fantastic musical score).

Sathya, thanks for 'unnidathhil ....'. As I am typing, my heart is filled with sublime joy as SJ with her effortlessly subtle, expression laden sangathis, the tune itself and strains of shehnai seamlessly blending with the piece that prompts the third charanam, work their wonder. Just as water has the characteristic to trickle into the smallest of the small crevices, SJ's voice wonder voice can traverse expressively through the subtlest gamakam rich phrasings of a tune with an air of inevitability. Finally, Viv Richards' non-chalant pull-drive of a Dennis Lillee leg cutter pitched outside the off stump is rendered humble :). Thanks once again Sathya. This song appears to be Hindolam predominantly with 'Pa' appearing in places making it into Gopika Vasantham.
