Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Don't see it - just get the soundtrack CD!
"Stylised" is a technical term and that is why I asked you for a bit of clarification. You are right, however. Nonsense remains nonsense - "stylised" or not! :-)
(SLB believes he is doing a Pakeezah, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, and Mahabharat (BRC) all in one go...What you get is a product (packaged?) that is not worth its weight in tinsel.)

M,
I think that is the song from Pudhiyavan. But I thought it was by KJY & VJ. Thanks for the clarification...

Anuradha -
You are most welcome. But please bear in mind that a review (mine bordered on invective, but that's how I really felt after seeing the film) is still only one person's subjective and critical take on a specific film/project. However, if you are somebody who values intelligence, authenticity, restraint, and quality in your entertainment choices, then you'd be better off renting the VHS of the Bimal Roy version with Dilip-Suchitra-Vyjayanthimala. Settle for Old. Skip the (nouveau) gold.
(I can't wait to read the reviews of KM and SJ - please let me know if you chance a link, site, piece...)
Yaaradhu Sollamal is from Nenjamellam Neeye.
Gita Govindam (besides featuring Kelucharan Mahapatra on the Pakhawaj,) is composed by Prafulla Kar. He has worked with VJ on many Oriya film songs - the most recognised of which is, "Megha Borosil Tuppuru Tuppuru."

Thks for the info on Prafulla Kar.Any info on where to get the CD/Tape of Geetagovindam on the internet ?
Digression again :
I was unable to trace the link to Subhash's take on Devdas..but he was really very keen to call it the best thing to happen to this world even before the film was released..his hype about the movie in rediff.com and times of india was really nauseating.
But in today's Times of india there is a debate about Devdas .It has ppl dissecting the movie . here is the link
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow.asp?artid=16458312
but the newspaper also carries an interview with Bhansali ( by JHA ) calling him a visionary ! I wont insult ppl here by providing the link to that ..
eod
As i was typing this , there came along a beautiful melody.." Kaalam Maaralam nam kaadhal maarumo" (spb-vj) from Vaazhkai on some internet radio . My entertainment was complete - imagining Sivaji dancing (a la bhagyaraj) with Ambika :) !!

Anuradha,
Kaalam maralam is a great one indeed... Some how SPB matches his voice to Sivaji too...
Another one related to this thread (VJ songs)that to for sivaji is
Naalu pakkam vedarundu, naduvinile maanirandu

Sorry, continuing digression
The Times of India reviews couldn't have been more perfectly in resonance with Naaz's thoughts on the movie Devdas. One common feature in all these reviews (including Naaz's) is the million watt lights and gem-encrusted robes. Very sad indeed that the main theme of this age-old story was lost in between both the above-mentioned!
End of digression

I can mail you the FULL write up on Devdas (thanks to Vengayam and his "designer" metaphor which set me thinking. Also the discussion on "stylised" was informative.) It's all done. I only posted a snippet here. Didn't want to burden you with my "full" "improved" take. Absolutely ruthless :-0)

Naaz, yes, 'Naal nalla naal' is a catchy fast-paced duet(TMS-VJ) from 'Pannakkara Pen'(1976)-Jaishankar,Jaichitra. MD-VK.

Thanks for the confirmation. Naal Nalla Naal is one of my all-time VJ-TMS favourites. Another song that competes with the above for play time on my recorder is "Ammaanai, Azhagumigu Kann Maanai" from Avan Oru Sariththiram.
Great lyrics by Kannadasan. Simple but memorable tune by MSV. Virtuoso singing by the singers. A true gem of a song in every sense.

Naaz, -'a true gem of a song in every sense' how aptly you have described the amazing 'Ammaanai, azhagumigu kann maanai'! What a song! And VJ, singing with TMS, evokes a feeling of rare pleasure. TMS kicks off in superb style, and just when you give a contended sigh and settle down, expecting good old PS to follow suit, enters VJ, filling you with an unexpected, ecstatic thrill. And what lovely opening lines she has- 'Nambiya penn oru thaaragai, aval naadiya nee oru vaanagam, vinnagam maariya podhilum, intha pennagam maaruvathillaye--'And it is sheer bliss to hear her 'thaarahai', 'vaanaham', 'vinnaham', 'pennaham
' i.e- 'ha' instead of the usual 'ga'. And listen to the way she repeats the line 'intha pennaham maaruvathillaye', especially the way she lingers over the 'illaye'- simply enchanting!
You experience the same bliss all over again when you hear her later lines 'Kanniyin naal vahai saathiram, than kaadhalan kangalin maathiram, unnidam naan oru paathiram, athil ootriya then mazhai un muham', again repeating'athil ootriya thenmazhai un mugham', with the 'un muham' being caressingly emphasised.
Truly, Vani's bani was so refreshingly different and distinct in every way! I am envious of those who were old enough to be aware of film music in the 1970s! What a joy it would have been to experience the advent of VJ in tfm and later listen to each new song of hers when it was broadcast for the first time!

Neel D, perhaps it is wishful thinking, but I am hoping (rather selfishly) that this is again a 'Stay at home' week-end for you so that we'll wake up tommorow to find a whole lot of more VJ songs uploaded! Yeh dil maangta hai more!and more!

Hi Neel,
Ammandai ahzagumigu kanmanai is a incredible song. The song's lyrics, emotions it convey, voices of TMS and VJ, MSV music everything is fantastic. Hope to see this song in your site (thanks for your efforts) and no doubt this is THE BEST VJ-TMS song.

Saravanan, Sivaselvam -
Neengal virumbum padal idho: (saravanan, with due respect, I believe it is "ka" and not "ha" in those words. Please have another listen for me.)
The SPB-VJ duet also is a rare and fine one.
