Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Saravanan,
>>>bb- I too don't object when a certain 'b'ad 'b'oy often breaks my heart by referring to SJ as 'Keechu' kural! :-))<<<<
Surprising! Even you are deviating (albeit slightly!) from your self imposed rigid code of writing of ' no controversy whatsoever , even if the entire World does it'!!!!!

bb: today's song is very good. it doesn't sound IR-ish at all. is the singer KJY (have i heard him before) a newbie? i think he tried his best to not do the tamizh kolai that was started by we-all-know-who ;) (he says 'ch'iRu kaLLi yuck! :-) ). did the lyicist write the song to the tune or was it other way? i ask this because while at some portions the words so well fit with the tune but at others he puts in too many words in a line! can you write a little bit more about the lyricist? it's a pity that he doesn't sound vairamuthu-ish :-( .

digression:
on a more (!) serious note: notwithstanding theories about the origin of muththam, i wonder when this became an accepted show of love in thamizhagam. vaLLuvar uses the phrase eyiRRu nIr :-). while the changath thamizhs wrote about all kinds of escapades, i am not sure if they wrote about muththam. any pointers?

superb! one of my altime favourite song....
in "creativity of GR" thread i think there was no technical review of this song. Now that pundits would have listened to this song from SOTD. Can anyone write a review of this song alone?
Please post the review in the creativity thread and notify us here. :-)
Eagerly expecting the same.

C V- My post was written in an entirely lighter vein. My apologies, anyway!
bb- thanks for this classic. Along with TMS, there are 3 different female voices, singing for 3 different dancers (one of them being Helen). The 3 singers are AP Komala, Koka Jamunarani and Jikki.
I don't know how far this is true, but I remember reading somewhere that Sridhar (who was in charge of the screenplay and dialogues), played a record of some western song and requested GR to base this song on the same lines.
Even for the film Aravalli, GR had lifted the famous Que sera sera and gave a lovely AMR-Jikki duet-Chinna Pennana pothile.
I remember an even earlier western style song in tfm- 'Ezhayin Kovilin' from Panam. MD-VR. It is a superb waltz-like composition, sung by GK Venkatesh and-hold your breath-MLV! Amazingly, MLV sounds perfectly at ease even in this alien composition.
Reg.Uthathama Puththiran, it was a remake of PU Chinappa's movie having the same name, but Sridhar had brought refreshing changes in its adaptation. GR gave it a memorable score, with a variety of singers, like TMS, Seergazhi Govindarajan, Ravvu Balasaraswathi, P Leela, Jikki, AP Komala, PS and Jamunarani singing the songs.

aruLaracan is carrying this "ish" "ish" too far.
MSV fans are not HCIRFs to keep on harping on the same issue.
It is also interesting to note that it was a HCIRF who said "MSV thiruvadigaLE charaNam".
MSV fans, on the other hand, know how to distinguish between acknowledging the talents of someone with worshipping the grounds of their idol.
Looks like HCIRFs like aruL has to grow up a lot more.

aruLaracan, I have the song on tape. Can I reach it to you anyway? Please let me know.
bb- this was not Helen's first song. If I remember right, she had also appeared in a dance in Vanangamudi, which came a year earlier than UP.

Saravanan
Could you list other songs by GK Ventakesh.I thought Pavamanippu was the only one apart from certain other asareeris by GKV in VR-MSV music.
Also the of C Ramachandra s "Eena meena"(Kishore from Asha) follows a Rock and roll and a similar arrangement. Was it before Uthamaputhiran?
Aravalli -amudhavalli confusing??Adai Katti vantha nilavo by TRM is it ont from Aravalli music by VR?
BB,Talking about TRM i suggest "Nanandri Yaar tharuvar" from Malayitta Mangai. This is an amazing song with male(TRM) singing Valaji and female(APK) singing Abohi in one song.Though these 2 are murchana of one another,i think this was the first murchana attempt in TFM i think.

OISG- some other songs sung by GKV - the haunting 'Kanave kaathal vaazhve'-Senthamarai, the famous 'Sonthamum illai'-Hello Mr.Zamindar, and 'Kannodu vin pesum jaadai'- Kavalai Illatha Manithan, (where alternatively TS Bagavathi sings sadly and slowly, and GKV, ALR and Jamunarani sing fast, western notes). GKV had a great voice. You can also hear his thogayara 'Maanathile meenirukka' as a prelude to SJ's 'Udhayam varukindrathe'-Kavikkuyil.
PS's 'Enna Meena' for Adhisaya Penn- (MD-SMS) came a year after UP. After Panam-1952, Raji En Kannmani-1954 had the tamizh 'La Paloma'-Malligai poo jaathi roja- R Balasaraswathi.
Yes, 'Aadai katti' is from Amudhavalli-VR.
