Mounaraagam,
The problem with IR is that he shows glimpse of his class in recent times.
Ivan had some two good songs, Ramanaa had one good song(Vaanaville), Kadhal Jaathi had some good songs, Azhagi had some good songs, Solla Marantha Kathai had some etc.
This indicates to IR fans, that he is not gone altogether. Now media is also recognizing BGM, which is his strong fort. All this keeps IR fan's hopes alive.
But I share your feeling that he is not giving 100%(not even close to it). Who will tell this to him? Do he know that millions of Fans are still expecting great music from? Do he know that every time he does a less dedicated work, his fans lose heart?
Some way, his fans should communicate this to him.

He'll figure it out once no one hires him anymore.Pretty much now it is a kind of hobby to him i'd say.No more need for income. It's his passion and so he does it.

Piratheepan,
Sorry "nobody hiring him" is not really going to happen, unless he gets pre-occupied with other stuff like symphony!!

Didn't say its going to happen now but eventually it would happen due to change. That make more sense or no?Like deva for instance he's dying out.(coure bad example when talkin abt sumone of illaiyarajah's stature but i think u get my point)

No guys , actually IR was going great and from kaad...mariyadai...to manasellaam....he delivered lots of superb songs.....take solla maranda kathai....all songs superb and just composed in 40 minutes.....
I THINK WHENEVER THERE IS EXPECTATION HE WUD FEEL TENSED AND DELIVER BAD......even he himself said that working with new directors and new ppl is what he is comfortable with ......see sethu..all new ppl ....so he delivered with free mind and look at the songs ........
yesteday evening i listened to pithamagan and till now i am in DEEP DEPRESSION....lost my mental energy...AFTER ALL IR IS THE ONE WHO DEVELOPED OUR MUSIC SENSE AND KNOWLEDGE...so now he cannot fool us with those recycled stuff....

IR is Original that is the reason it is not happening.. Deva has ended up copying.. comparing Deva fading out to IR is totally ridiculous..
The way you are saying does not make any sense, since Music is boundless and does not have any age.. It is not like acting. As long as IR sparkles his brilliance (which he does consistently with BGM's), he might not have made the record-breaking sales in the Cassatte/CD region, but still he is the best in BGM when taking into consideration TFM
So dont irritate IR fans with some rather ridiculous postings..

To Fliflo:
I agree that if I don't like smoething then I wouldn't even bother listening to it. But IR's album is not just another album for me to approach it with no expectations.
To Everyone:
This may be my pulambal. But who knows. This may be the pulambal of his millions of fans too. I accept that he gave good songs in IVAN, SMK etc.
But to what extent? Not like a Punnaigai Mannan, or Agninatchathiram or as I already mentioned those Mani Rathnam's movie.
He gave ANJALI, which I think as one of his very complicated and complex albums. He gave that around late 80s when there was hardly a PROTOOLS or CAKEWALK or any other hitech tools that the present MDs use.
All I was asking is, just once, just one time only, why don't he try to give a album that measures upto Naayagan or Anjali etc.
Just wanted to express my feelings.

Summa Pulambatheengappa!
If you don't like it, then don't buy it!
If you got it by some means, then don't listen to it!
If you've already listened unavoidably, then don't talk about it!
If you have already talked about it, then don't do it repeatedly!
Because you're going to get nothing out of it. Remember your likes and dislikes are hardly detrimental for movie's success.

Mouna Ragam,
I understand your frustation. When he gave those hits, he was the King in TFM. He was the choice of all best directors. So probably he was in whole positive frame of mind.
Also, if the directors are like MR, he is confident that if he puts the labour, it is worth it. Now I think he is not getting that kind of confidence on new directors. But sometimes like Ramanaa he was proven wrong. He also talked to Murugadoss in apologistic way and tried to make up in BGM.
Even he had that doubt on Kamal in HeyRam. He got confidence only when Kamal said, "Packup to Hungary. I have already hired Symphony Orchestra". He told in his own words, "Oh god. This man did not just tell. He did it and I am not ready with scripts" He started writing notations carefully from then on.
HeyRam was one movie which was upto his earlier standards, if you notice.

Elangaathu - One of the best compositions I have heard in recent times. I can't get it out of my head. Contrary to many forum users , I find IR has made right choice of singer for this song. His rendition blends perfectly as his voice has kind of sharp flaw when he shifts tone. I hope lyrics is good.

Hi,
I dont think IR has run out of gas, he is just not as prolific as he used to be and not inspired as often he used to be. He needs alot of attention from the director to get a good album out. I have heard a couple of good albums which are close to his standard recently. For eg., Kadhalakku Mariyadhai, Time, Bharathi, Kannukul Nilavu, Hey Ram and Azhagi. Its just that all the directors like Fazil, Kamal and the director of Bharathi are serious enough and suited his style of music (though he can produce almost all kinds of music, he is just stopped giving good hip numbers for almost a decade or he is thinking about serious music alot lately).

Ok Guys Here is my review of Isaigani Ilaiyarajavin Pithamagan! :-)
I dont know why so many people are complaining but this! It is one nice and smooth album from IR. Ofcourse not in the plane of Azhagi and the likes.
Some points to consider in my review:
1. What I say is my favorite song is not necessarily the best song. My favorite is based on my expectation.
2. I heard songs from CD.
Ok The review...
Piraiye Piraiye -
Yes, it does resemble putham puthu poo! But Madhu has done a very good job and has shown that he is much better and disciplined than the young bunch like Karthik, Tippu etc. Interlude with flute is typical IR its great! The parts when madhu sings "payanam evarkum ingu mudiyum" is simply superb!
Song Opinion: It is just passable song and I dont think there is anything great.
Elangathu-
I am glad IR uses Shreya often now. Classic Tune! Even if it resembles old tunes I am not worried because it is good! Sriram is not a bad singer. God knows why people say he spoiled the song. He is nice. First interlude violins chancey illai! charanam is awesome! "manasile enna aagayam" sounds soooooperb! Bass?? ketkave vendam! Vintage IR bass!! kelapittar!
Song Opinion: Nice song like kundu malli from SMK. probably the best song (not my favorite though read no.1 above)
Adada -
Probably the least impressive song in the album. Only thing that is ok is the percussion. Awesome. KJY sounds strained at parts. Very disappointed with the whole song.
Song Opinion: Tune does not inspire me or move me. Probably a situation song. I prefer to skip it in the CD.
Elanagathu (male solo)-
Sriram has done a great job. He has a disciplined voice.
Song Opinion: Nice song, but the duet is better since I love Shreya :-)
Kodi Yethi Vaippom -
My favorite song from this album!! Full of pull aripu parts! Let me tell you why! I expect Raaja to give typical tamil thriuvizha fervour songs like this. You cannot expect an ARR song with lots of synth chords from IR! This is his forte! What a beautiful rhythm. The tharai thappatai and urmi are just masterfully used by the maestro!! Kasi like percussion in the song.
I love the way Periya Karuppu Thevar says "amman" in first stanza. sounds sweet!
Followed by A haunting and mellifluous rendition by Bhavatharini backed by great chords and ambience and guitar![PULL ARIPPU NO 1] This time she sticks to the key and no tonal shifts :-) Great part!!!!!!
Fillowed by brilliant rhythmic percussion that made me rock my whole body! [PULL ARIPPU NO 2] wow Tamil folk is so great!!!!!!! Then comes male chorus "hei kapppu kattu kappu kattu.." sounds like "annan sethuvukku" song from sethu. The best thing about that is the it is is backed by a feeble yet amaaaaazing bass. dono if it is synth bass!! listen to the bass during this kappu kattu chorus!!! toooooo good! [PULL ARIPPU NO 3]
then comes Shankugasundari's part "kolavai ittu..". She does her job of replicating the voice of an average village woman singing in a thiruvizha. Female chorus too sounds crassy.
After female chorus sings the line "manjaloda kungumammum sandanamum alli vechu..." the percussion that come s is sooooooo gooood! What a punch effect there!!!! when they finish sandanamum alli vechu.. mola dan dan dan dan.. the percussion supports it. wowowowowow!!!! [PULL ARIPPU NO 4]
then comes the tear jerker pullarikara part!!!!! the mighty tamil nadhaswaram!!!!! is backed by superb chords, percussion!!!! [PULL ARIPPU NO 1] Th tempo builds up or is the fervor?? Wow what a way to end the song!!!!
Song Opinion: Th best song. Ithukkakave nan album vanguven! Nobody can beat Raja in folk!!Porum aiyya pull arippu!!
OVERALL VERDICT:
I dont know people are shy to admit Kodi yethi vaippom is great. ARR fans complain it is not fresh and tunes resemble old songs. True. But what else do you expect from IR? IR's music is spontaneous and you can expect some classy numbers and folk numbers from his albums. Are you expecting some irish flute and some lithuanian mandolin in his songs??? No that is ARR's forte! I expected only this from IR.
However I am unhappy for the short album. Three more songs would have been better. Maybe maximum concentration is for BGM???? A great Album but not as good as Kasi and Azhagi!! and please stop expecting 80s like album like agni nakshatram.

V,
I agree with you on the "Kodi Ethi Vaippom" song! Too good! I felt like being right in the midst of an amman kovil thiru vizha.
I just listened the MP3 version of Piraiye from coolgoose. It begins with a very beautiful humming for a few seconds before the song starts. This humming was missing in the song in raaga.com site where I heard the songs first. It was very pleasantly surprising to hear that humming.
Elangathu is definitely growing in me after few hearings.
