"Anyone can put their money on IR's BGM"
Vatsa,
Rightly said!!,
I would add, after all these years, he can/did atleast produce a good album (Not exceptional, but good, and it is a worth buy too).

Mould audience??? No one is looking for dappaamkuthu like Samy songs but quite decent songs which IR was giving for many yrs. It is really funny to see guys raving about PM songs. Everyone is entilted to an opinion. My only wish is that PM movie succeeds.

Guys,
I am a hardcore mottai fan..
but hard to digest this new album pithamagan. No new tunes. Everything is recycled..
I feel mottai has ditched bala
Pirayae.. Pirayae = putham pudhu poo poothadho..(dhalapathy)
Adada.... Derived from "unnai thaan nitham nitham..."
Elangathu veesudhae Recycled from few songs from IR himself.
Overall songs are not upto mottai's standard

Guys,
I am a hardcore raaja fan. But I am not able to appreciate pithamagan songs. All the songs are recycled.

I think V got pissed with me for answering regarding Boyz, I am happy to have comparisons, and again I told V the same thing in one of my previous post that I dont accept "non-comparisons" so dont get mad at me, take it easy.. I just redirected the question to him.
btw:
Hamsanandi and Panthuvarali are classic carnatic raagas.
For the information, you have to register.

Yeah Guys ,
With much hope I listened to Pithamagan songs. Even after many hearings it didn't give me a feel of being memorable/decent songs. I'm still not sure whether it was the misplaced choice of singers/Lyrics/tunes.
Comparisons are unavaoidable. Would gauge Yuvan's "Nanada" for Bala, as a much better effort than this. Unless Raja comes up something extraordinary in BGM/ Bala does something different in picturization, this is not going to stay anywhere in our memories after a while.

MIL,
I did not get pissed at anybdy in particular.
I just thought that some unwarranted comparison would be ominous of a heavy IR-ARR fight in this thread too.
When you compare Boys songs and Pithamagan songs that is a different comparison. But when you start discussing how Boys songs-BGM fit that movie, isn't that too digressing and unnecessary in a Pithamagan thread!?

the whole reason i brought up the fact of background music in other films, not only boys, was because jag made the remark that no one could even give 10% of what illaiyaraja give for bgm. SO i gave a few examples of films done by others were done well and on par with illaiyaraja's capabilites.
MusicIsLife
no hard feelings. Thanks for the links will look at them when i have the time.

IMHO, IR has moved beyond all these petty things people debate about when a new album is released. I think he is being given 'been there, done that' type of situations, which honestly does good to no one. He is still inspired to do some pretty grand BGMs, which is a good thing. Even in songs, he does produce the occasional 'Nee partha' from Hey Ram. 'Appadi pakkardhu' from Ivann was delightful. For people who have long listened to IR, the so called 'fall to disgrace' sounds silly. IR has countless innovations to his credit, something people today seem to forget and don't have the patience and the ear for. It may not have been technological but surely are phenomenal for anyone with a musical ear.
IR has had his time at the peak of popularity charts undisputedly and though it would have disappointed him a little to miss the spotlight earlier (esp. 1992-94), I am thinking he is enjoying his time alone. What he initially thought was a 'fall to disgrace' has been a blessing in disguise. I am only thankful that IR has come out unchanged in his style and is doing the things he is the Raaja of. It is time for YSR, HJ and ARR to outshine each other in the popularity contest. Even ARR has moved to better things, God, he is as lucky as he is talented.
So, for people still dragging IR into these popularity ratings, what can I tell you? Grow up. I don't think anyone questions IR's musical merit, and there are more than a few hundred songs and a few thousand articles detailing the great things IR has done in his music to attest that.
I hope IR gets decent projects where he can excel in giving quality music (not just through songs).
All IMHO.

Some opinions have been expressed in this forum based on PM songs that IR has stopped become creative. Some have expressed their wish that IR should retire gracefully.
I am of the view that the charge of lack of creativity has been mainly because these people listen to the songs like ‘elangathu veesuthe’ and wonder how long IR songs will have the village style words. No doubt some have said that it is the choice of instruments (“ten year old?”) that makes it boring. However I feel that it is the lyrics. How can anyone listen to ‘elangathu veesuthe’ even if in ‘rap’ and feel modern? Is it the famous Vaali who penned these words? Can this be the same person who gave such meaningful and thought provoking lyrics like ‘Mukkala Mukkabala, laila oh laila’?
IR should have insisted some modern lyrics and whatever be the tune, that would done wonders to make the songs really popular.
I am no great poet. Not even a little poet, but even I can transform the rustic songs into hip one. For instance ‘elangathu veesuthe’ can be re-written as
Young wind veesudhe
Music pola pesuthe
Unbending bamboola
Music bend aguthe
IR should insists that Vaali and other lyricists use more English words so that tamilians can understand the songs. If the tamil poets don’t mend their ways, then I would suggest IR use exclusively Hollywood song writers for tamil his songs.

I doubt english words would hold value to a movie like PM. And also when using english words in thamil music not many can pull that off, meaning it just sounds stupid when not done right.

Pithamagan Songs are very good after couple of hearings.
Piraye Piraye is the pick of the album
Elangathu Veesudhe -- Is also good, has the typical IR mark
Adadaa -- Sounds very good, may be will be even better when we see the movie.
