I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Last para, first line has a typo. It should read: "She had worked with...."
sorry for the gender trouble :-)

Coming back to one question I had wanted to ask u - what are Vani's Bengali songs. I had of course thought they were with Ananda Shanakr, until you told me about those Thamizh movies for which he recorded a few songs in her voice.
So which are her Bengali songs, their composers?
Similarly her songs in Bhojpuri (if any???) and Marwari?

naaz - i think Vani's song in Pakeezah is composed by Naushad and not Ghulam Mohammed (i have the whole CD of Pakeezah along with its title music, and it says that clearly). Has she worked with Ghulam Mohammed apart from that? About Naushad - the song I recall is the one in Aaina.

One more last question - what is her work with Kumara Gandharva - has she sung his COMPOSITIONS.

There are devotional/folk/Durga Puja albums by VJ in Bhojpuri/Marwari and Bengali. Her Durga Puja album is played to this day during the festival in Kolkutta. I don't have the details about the MDs to post rightaway. But I promise to do so once I get to my storage and bring out the old boxes with tapes and vinyls! (and rodent pellets for sure :-))

I beleive VJ did quite a few "live" concerts with KG.
Aaina has a song with VJ (and also a duet with AB). I am still trying to get the name of the JA film soundtrack with VJ's songs. One of these days... :-)

I just heard the duet "Medaiyil Aadidum Melliya Poongkaatre" from Vandikkaran Magan (VJ/SPB/MSV) after a long long time...such memories is brought back! For those of you who are interested in having a listen go to Chennaiweb.com and choose SPB hits vol.1 from "S" in the letters of the english alphabet. It is a rare duet, seldom found on the net. Neel D, have you heard it lately?

Have you heard the "Paduthal Purandal" from Vandikkaran Magan. Not a very popular song.this and "Ethnai azagu Kottikidakkuthu" are real challenges to "roop thera Mastana".
I remember having read somewhere that Vani is prob the only singer who writes down the song in the language it is written and sings. She does it even for a oriya song. This is a surprise since veterans like SPB,PS,SJ still use telugu lipi(but even more astonishing is how they manage to sing without an accent)

Paduthal Purandal" from Vandikkaran Magan is really peppy. this song was sung by SPB in doordarshan in a programme on MSV ( malarum ninaivugal?) where in it was appreciated. But the movie got caught in the political climate to such an extent that it ran for 42 days in all the Chennai theatres but did not complete a 50 day run in any! (Somebody trying to please MGR.the fall out Jai lost his hero status.. till AVM reintroduced him as a villain in MKaalai & songs also did not get recognition) i am privvy to some more info of that period but as i cannot reveal my source I'll keep quiet. let us also not talk ill of the dead.also this ia TFM forum

Naaz: In that interview, she did n't mention abt Vijay bhaskar. She sang an oriya song too.
Reg. sri ragavendrar, i could remember the song rama naama guru. she is sad abt tamil kolai these days. ( and also abt state of tamil films).she said ' "aval oru thodarkathai" padam paarththu vittu one week athan ninaivagavae irunthen. soceitykku nallathu seiya directors muyalanum '.
she said she does not find time to do drawing, painting etc. She wants to do everything on her own even in her house.

@ - is that true? Did VB pass away yesterday? That is such a profound loss of SFM. He was one of india's pre-eminent film MDs. I am saddened to hear of his demise.

I just finished reading an obit for VB in The Hindu (on net). That is such a loss. He was 70 years old and had composed music for more than 300 films (beginning in the 50s). The obit did not mention the cause of death...was he ailing? Or ?
KVM, VB...two great losses in just the last one year for SFM.

I have been thinking of the song " Idhu Undhan Veetu Kili Thaan" from Shankar Salim Simon. Is this solo by VJ available on the net? The music was by MSV. It was quite a peppy, fast-paced number (just like the other solo from Lottery Ticket "Avaniyai Kondada Vandhan, Asaiyile Poo Choodi Nindraen..."). A link to both these songs (if possible) would be a blessing...

Was the duet "Idho Idho Yen Nenjile Orey Raagam" from Vattaththukkul Sadhuram by VJ and Sasirekha?
- From: O_IS_G (@ 193.188.97.152)
on: Mon Mar 4 10:34:24 EST 2002
That is by Jency and Sasi rekha.
Coming to "Ithu unthan veetu" - is again in Thilang -MSV-SJ combination in the lines of Malligai mullai and Abinaya Sundari.
Lottery ticket - the MD was L Vaidyanathan (You will see Vaithi Laxman in the title. This was after his Ezhavathu Manithan success)The song that got regularly into AIR was "thenaru payum" by SP Sailaja

I am sure about Sasirekha having sung in that song, because she mentioned this song in an interview in Sun TV a few years back. That was the last time I heard this song :(
I am not sure about the other singer though.
In that interview, she also talked about her experiences in singing with VJ in the song "Kelviyin Nayagane"

We all know about the demise of veteran MD Vijayabhaskar, and we also know that he was one of those MDs who fully utilized Vani Jairam's singing skills. Can someone summarize their songs done together in all the 4 southern languages.
Thanks,

I'd really like to listen to the Bharatiyam song. I believe it was done for Doordarshan? I don't think it is available as a clip on the net...or is it?

I am sure VJ will have a statement of grief with regards to the passing away of VB. He was somebody who recognised the virtuosity of VJ a long time ago. And he was steadfast in his belief in her singing abilities. I hope there is a VJ-VB special on one of the net radios. If someone hears of such a programme, please do let us know. Thanks.

Bharatiyam was a national sports event for children telecast on Doordarshan many years ago. The music was by RS and VJ sang the song .... i vaguely remember the tune. (nearly 8 years ago). More recently (5 years ago) I have heard the same tune in the voice of Sandhya Mukhopadhyay (Mukherjee).
Thanks,
