  In the raga listing, the song "Aagaya Vennilaave.." from Arangaetravelai is listed as being in Darbari Kaanada. Isnt it Natabhairavi?

  Similarly the song "oru naal iravu" (kaaviya thalaivi), I think is in Sumanesarajani, the pratimadhyama counterpart of Suddha Dhanyasi. Right?

  Ammamma kELadi thOzhi.....(karuppu paNam) with the I stanza preceded by a haunting Saz piece in Charukesi. The stanzas are in a different raag.

  yeah. In an interview Ilayaraja told he had composed both these songs in charukesi and the 'putitan's went overboard. Shows on to prove IR is a natural talent and a 'learned' composer.

  chaiya chaiya cannot be definitely branded as madhyamaavathi, IMO. I wonder if there is any ragam in it. One of the mano dharma compositions of ARR :-)

  It may be a slip of tongue. IR is very knowledgeable in carnatic.
  
  "kaadhal oorvalam" from "pookkaLai parikaatheergaL" is in naattai ? Also "oru pattaampoochchi" from "kaadhalukku mariyaadhai" is in naattai ?

  Cheenu, MSV has skillfully employed both the madhyamams, just hear that song... So i may not be technically right.. but i still think its Suddha Dhanyasi plus pratimadhyamam or Sumanesaranjani plus suddha madhyamam

  Can some body tell me whether the song "Yamuna Nadhiyingae Radhai mugam..." from the film Gauravam is in Nagaswaravali? I dont find that song listed.There is also an MSV tune in the same melody, which used to be the title music for the "Pongum poompunal" morning song edition of Srilankan radio tamil sevai......

  Ya, 'Thaiya thaiya' cannot be a simple Madhyamavathi. It has a R1, i think.
  
  I read the song 'Varaga nathikarai' is in Yamuna Kalyani. I don't see a M2 anywhere. Is that correct ?

  I don't mean chaiya chaiya is in pure madhyamavathi.But in the begining of the song its like that.Also you can find its trace in the back ground score also.
  I think varaga nathikkarai is in Arabhi.Its like Eerikkaraiyinilae sung by TMS.

  I do think 'Oru nall nilavu' is Sumanesa Ranjini.
  I do not know the swaras. In one interview, Madurai Seshagopalan had talked on the brilliant use of Sumanesa ranjini in 'Malai Pozthithin ' from Baghyalakshmi. I think Oru nal nilavu is similar to that.

  I am not sure, I thought 'Yamuna nadhi inge ' from Gauravam had traces of Khamboji. But, any way, I consider it is one of the master pieces of MSV.

  Come to think of this,Cheenu and Jeyaram, remember the song "Sangathamizh kaviyae.." sung by KJY and S Janaki(?) from the Balachandar movie starring Suhasini? Is'nt it Suddhadhanyasi(pallavi and anupallavi) and Sumanesaranjini(in the charanam)?Its Ilayaraja right?

  "Enthan nenjil neengatha" is in Nalinakanthi.
  You can think of the song "Kandukonden Kandukonden" with a similar starting.

  and one of the Charanams may be SumanesaRanjani (or Kalyanavasantham ? ). What is the diff. ?
  Can some body clarify ?
  
  I think 'Kanchi Pattututhi' from VayasuPonnu (MSV)
  and 'Ninnaye Rathiyendru'from Kanne Kaniyamude
  (MSV) are pure Kalyanavasantham. I think there is one IR number in KV in the film Sembaruthi. Can it be identified?
  
  Can someone clarify what is the Ragam for the rare but beautiful number 'Maragatha Megam Konjum
  Mazhai Varum Neramithu ' from 'Megatthukum Dagamundu' (MSV) .

  I played 'oru naaL iravu' on my Keyboard and found that both M2 and N3 were used in addition the SudhaDanyaasi notes. Will get back to you 'morrow on the name of the raag.
  Sumanesa Ranjini is a janya of ShanmugaPriya and therefore cannot be the raag for the above song.

  MS,Cheenu,Jeyaram, Chandra.. I agree its Abheri in the pallavi of "Sangathamizh..", but what about that charanam..? Cheenu.. Thanks for ur efforts but do let me know of the "Aagaya Vennilaave..."too. Its definitely not Darbarikaanada.And also do clarify on "Yamuna Nadhiingae". And Jeyaram... Kalyanavasantham doesnt have ri and pa,just like Hindolam.. Right Cheenu/MS?

  In the new raga-based film songs database, i think the last raga listed under the song (#52)"maasila nilave nam" (from Ambikapathy) is Mukhari and not punnaagavaraali. Please confirm.

  1.Cheenu/MS...tell me the raga for the song "Engirindo vandhaan.." sung by SPB in a film starring Sathyaraj,late actor Kalyan Kumar..sorry i dont remember the film name.
  2. My entry in the "raga based film song database", for the song "Nee Oru Raagamaligai.." has to be updated from Kapi to Ragamaalika- Kapi and Bageshri,please.
  3.And MS in the "Agaya vennilave.." look at the loopbacks from the charanams back to the pallavi, they are all non-Kaanada/Natabhairavi swara sequences. Its predominantly Natabhairavi dont you think..? And anyway anya/foreign notes swaras are normally introduced to highten musical effect, be it cinema composers or take for instance even Thygaraja. In the krithi "Nidhitsala Sukhama" in Kalyani the line "Sumathii Thyagarajuniki.." is rendered differently using non-Kalyani swaras.

  (1) The pallavi seems to be madhyamavathi ( could be sri - but hardly can I find the "G R" prayOgam in the pallavi". I don't remember the tune of sharaNam.
  
  (3) You may be right. But it seems to have a dharbaari effect too.
