Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Big time embarassment Saravanan. :)
Of course you are right.
If bb chooses this as the SOTD for the new year, we will give a lot of information, won't we? ;)

i dont think "nAn unnai vAzththip pAdugiREn" is apt for a new years day (except in certain places/occasions :-) ). my choice would be ANdukku ANdu thEdhikkuth thEdhi Ayiram irukkudhu shubhadhinam, even though it is not one of the great songs of sIrkAzi.

another apt one is "Nallorgaaal Vaazvaai kaaka, namaakaaga nammaai kaagaa, happy new year" (iam 100% sure am wrong with the words i have put) - song from SANGILI - sung by TMS (for Sivaji).... this song remained on top in the Ceylon radio for nearly an year i think....
and the all time best "Ezhamaai edho edho".....

'Anbulla Rajinikanth' also has a christmas song, I believe. Perhaps admin should start a separate thread on 'christmas songs' and give real audio songs if possible. very short time left though.

Kadavul ullame can be considered for this category.....Usually hindu devotional songs genarala irukathu...kadavul...devannu refer panrathilla......
There is one more song...Sivaji dressed up like santa and sing(kinikini kini kini matha kovil maniyosai)....Even though the words are not particularly christian,we can count that too........even nAn unnai vAzththip pAdugiREn has lines like "matha kovil maniosi mangai...."
i saw long back watched a not so great movie for xmas in DD(where else??)...forgot the name....i only remember vijaykanth in that movie(think even viji was there)...is it kuzhandai yesu??

Thanks MS. Thought it might be SindhuBairavi, the song is very similar to "mani osai kettu".

Jeera, thanks for reminding the Anbulla Rajinikanth song. Yes, Rajini comes as Santa to amuse the kids. -'Thaatha thaatha' by MV & chorus.
Some more New Year songs are 'Thanga magal thulli vandhaal----Puththaandu vaazhthukkal ellorum paadungal' from Thiruppam. Another one 'Nalliravu mella mella' from Vetrikkarangal.
My vote for a jolly song for Jan 1- 'Happy indru mudhal happy'-Ooty Varai Uravu :-))

the evergreen "iLamai idhO idhO" FROM sakalakalaavallavan.
This song and "nallorgaL vaazhvaikkaakka" song are till now unbeatable TFM song(s) for New year.

bb, At least for the above two opinions, you must put the Nootrukku Nooru song as SOTD for new year!
After all one of the reasons for SOTD is to introduce good and unknown songs to people who have not heard them, is it not? :)
Kupps, I beg to offer a different opinion on Ilamai itho itho. I tend to cringe in embarrassment for that song, just like the "chaanggu chakku chaanggu chakku" bit of Raakkamaa kaiya thattu (of an otherwise impeccable song).
These kind of songs may have been hip for that period, but cannot be termed as evergreen.

>>>>My vote for a jolly song for Jan 1- 'Happy indru mudhal happy'-Ooty Varai Uravu :-))<<<<
As far as I can recall, this is just a love duet (perhaps for two pairs of lovers, Sivaji- KRV and Muthuraman-Rajasri) and not a New Year song!!!

Cinema Virumbi: 'Happy indru mudhal happy'- Ooty Varai Uravu - is picturized only on one pair, Sivaji & KR Vijaya. I think it comes just after Sivaji's mother agrees to talk to his father regarding his marriage to KRV. (The father, Balaiah, opposes the marriage because he is under the illusion that KRV is his daughter through 'chinna veedu'. In reality, it is L Vijayalakshmi who is that daughter.)
Muthuraman-L Vijayalakshmi pair had only duet, towards the beginning -- "Raja Raja Sri Raajan". Perhaps the profusion of Raja and Rani is why you thought it is Rajshri? :-) Apparently, the song "Yaarodum Pesakkoodathu" was also filmed on them, but it did not appear in the film. A pity, it would have been nice to see. Also, Nagesh-Sachu pair has no song. Nagesh comes as a hen-pecked doctor and, as usual, is fantastic. Especially great is the way he talks to the patients in the beginning; and later searches for the newspaper ad which will fetch Rs 10 000.

Kuzhanthai Yesu is indeed a Vijaykanth-Viji starrer that came in 1984.
IRish:
Mouna Ragam background tracks are available in Ilaiyaraaja yahoogroups. Ithayathai Thirudathey BGMs(church scene piece) can also be found there.
Devane ennai paarungal is indeed a great song by TMS.
Of course, lot of christmas songs are found in old Malayalam movies.

I havent seen JN, only heard it had some biblical references, hence the conclusion! :-)
In addition to Jikki, PS, VJ, KSC and of course KJY have done thanipaadalgal. SPB had once sung in an album with Jolly Abraham. MSV too has scored a Christian album sometime in mid 90s(his trademark string sections dominate with flute, choruses and occasional bells).
BTW, I heard it was Karthik Raja who scored BGM for Bible ki Kahaniyan on DD. Can anyone recollect the type of music? I am curious to know, it was a period serial.

In a thread on KR, I had mentioned about KR's good work in Bible ki Kahaniyan on DD. Someoneelse pointed that perhaps it was only the title song with all the rest credited to Louis Banks.

Cinema Virumbi,
The BGM for Bible Ki Kahaniyan was by KR (no Louis Banks:) ...don't think he can score like that). I initially thought it was by IR (as it was similar to IR'), then after a few episodes realised it was by KR. Was looking forward to more when DD stopped its telecast abruptly:( I thought KR's BGM was too good for the serial.

Forgot to mention that SPB sang for Dayasagar, Hindi movie on Jesus Christ. And there was an IR song, "Devan thiruchabai malargal" or something like that in his early days.
And there was a Fazil directed movie in malayalam which had strongly Christian/Western type of music
