We had a discussion on songs from Sridhar and Bhimsinghs movies.Why dont we do a similar analyis on
Balachanders films too?To ease the discussion I have given a listing of KBs films(it may not be complete,so

  Sorry, Ramki..I wanted to convey the exploitation of songs by KB in his films..The response was not meant to analyse his films as I haven't seen any of the films which U had listed.. So I cant opine on that..I take back my comments on stories of the films..
  
  If we analyse the situational exploitation of songs in SindhuBhairavi 3 songs come to my mind..
  1. Thom thana thom.. Sivakumar is trying to forget Suhasini and the torment of his mind is depicted as tidal waves...
  2. Padariyen padippariyen.. Suhasini thru this song completely conquers Sivakumar with her thoughts..
  3. Kalaivaniye..Sivakumar request Kalaivani to give him strength to lead a new life after all the happenings in his life..
  
  I think the situational importance & how these songs are turning points in the film is the point to be noted.. Already we all had a fight in another thread about SB...So I wont prepare another war..
  Unnal mudiyum thambi:
  One of the songs which comes into mind is :
  Nanjai undu..punjai undu.. In the song Kamal is inspiring the fellas as well as the people that we have everything then why cant we achieve something from it!!! He comes out as a reformist and breaks out from his father's mould totally!!
  A funny song is there in the film!! It goes soemthing like this..:
  ....Kal Aani..Kalyani.. The song is funny, the lyrics has got somerelation with carnatic music as they are a carnatic music family & even cooking has been picturised very jovially..
  
  IMO in these songs the director utilises the MD to a great effect as well as keeping connection with the storyline..
  
  I agree totally with U that PunnagaiMannan & Puthuputhu arthangal in that they are not keeping to KB brand songs..(again not films!! - IMO).. I think "Oru veedu iru vasal" didnt have any songs!(No idea - thought I saw in some other thread)

  Maybe this is out of context! But i don't like lyrics like " Un seruppaga iruppen., Un toilet paper'aha iruppen. Absolute crap. Vairamuthu is known for such stuff. In Kaathalan also there were some nasty lines like this in the song Ennavale ..

  intha thread ukku avaLavaa sambandam illai... but one of my friend pointed out that in none of KB's film a musician/singer has been depicted to be a bhramin which is in contrast to actual statistics. No hard feeling intended and pardon if it hurts anyone.

  pal - Wrong! One that comes to mind immediately is Kamal's father, Poornam Viswanathan, who is a sangeetha vidwan in Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu.

  the best music in a KB film has come in sindhu bhairavi in my opinion.it is one of the best films to come in the eighties.almost all the songs in the movie can be and has already been listed under
  'IR's creativity' thread.but the more important thing to notice is the BGM of the movie.there are several emotional and heart-rending scenes in the movie for which the BGM is really great.this is one movie for which u cannot imagine anyone ,not even MSV scoring music as good as what IR has done.it will go down as one of the greatest works of classical and folk combo music from a genius.an album that should definitely be a part of every TFM lover's collection.
  i feel that the quality of music in KB's films has only declined since,and the other films of IR after this had their own share of great songs but as an overall album they ar nowhere near SB.
