I agree Saketh - The opening in the Baba song in no way compares to Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali. That opening was royal, the orchestration was fabulous. This one sounds too lame for a RK starrer.

I am no expert. Everything I said was IMHO, however, I will try to post some professional reviews, which will probably come out in a couple of days.
I am interested to hear what magix/curses, whynot and C~P have to say.

The truth is irrespective of the sane reviews being presneted here and the movie and music is going to be a big success (sucks us). The movie success will be overshadowed by the imprudent mob who feign RK is a transcendent being.

I did not notice that this thread has featured in the homepage of this forum.
I knew it would once the audio released, but it looks like it did on July 27th itself.

Genius: You really make me wonder now, if that was the reason behind all those gimmicks. I think things seem to add up to me. But I think people have bashed this album enough already. and are more frustrated becos of the hype created around it.

Going by your response, I believe most of you are totally pissed. And for a moment, imagine the plight of lakhs of fans all over TN waiting overnight outside theatres and getting the stupid coupons. For heavens sake..this is as big a daylight robbery as one can imagine.
I am a die-hard Rajini fan..and do appreciate good music. I have listened to Baba 3 times in the last few hours. I am disappointed.
Imagine a movie like Red or Shree and such music will suit the stars and size of canvas. But this is a Rajini movie..Period..and it has been three years since his last movie.
It seems that Rajini wants the ARR tag in his movie, more than anything else. I have long believed that Rajini has a very astute music sense and have heard about his total involvement in the music of his movie. But this sucks.
I would be happier with trademark ripped Deva tunes than these techno numbers that are totally out of sync with Rajini.
Having lyrics that are good doesnt only guarantee good reception. U need the tunes. As a few of you have rightly compared the music of Baba with Arunachalam, Annamalai, Muthu and Padayappa..this pales..and after all the hulaboo.. .the hurt is even worse.
I wouldnt be surprised at the reception ARR gets when he returns back to cHennai. ARR is an Indian treasure. Agreed. But then this treasure works better with jazzy setup and techno stuff..A shankar movie or sometimes experimental cinema like KM and Lagaan is cool. Not a trademark Rajini movie. I guess ARR tried to flow against the tide and has failed..miserably.
If only, IR or Deva or Yuvan(am not too sure if he would be able to match up..but the tunes of Thulluvadho have enough folk feel to them) or even the vastly underrated Vidyasagar(Run is very good..and even Thavasi music suits the village ambience) had been used, the music would be much moe in sync. It might not have sold a few million copies abroad but for true fans..its just the right medicine..
God save Baba..
and dear Rajinikanth..bad choice for MD.

But I will not blame ARR though. WE already know that ARR was tighter than ever in his schedule...
BABA movie was imposed on him.. he would have accepted it half-hearted.
This could be an ARR gimmick too... just put some music in it and make it a flop.. so RK never steps back his feet again in his house....
But after reading musicfan's note, Vidhyasagar does have the potential to do a great music for RK.. who knows.. even he might be waiting with some stuff exclusively suiting RK's image...
from next movie on (if it were any) RK has to experiment with other.. first choice being Vidhyasagar...
STOP USING ARR ANYMORE !!!

looks like most of the noise is being made by only a couple of guys again and again...... My personal view is its the same as any other ARR album and time will answer whether these songs are a hit or not...my first opinion is its good and not that bad as some ppl have posted here... for a true music fan listen to it and come back and post ur views after 10 days....

ARR will have to go hide in London. (I mean, look at the songs, the worst IR music for a Rajini or Kamal movie did not anywhere reach the low level of obscure tunes or vagueness.) I am sure Rajini fans are preparing to drive Rahman out. Padayappa was okay in patches and Muthu was also okay, but reaching IR' levels is going to be a distant dream for Rahman.
That is why they did this drama of issuing coupons, maybe hoping that some will lose it

Why should it take 10 days to identify a good song? Shouldn't a good song, be with you, become part of you, from the moment you hear it? If it is indeed instaneously catchy or memorable?
I wonder if other MDs and Movies will get the same "Indru Poi Paththaam Naal Vaa" consideration that Baba and ARR are getting.
BABA is not AHAH. It is closer to BOO BOO.
Even on the 10th replay.

I knew this thread would lead to an ARR-IR bashing thread one day or the other. It never was until today, but now after everyone has listened to Baba songs it has become a ARR vs IR battlefield..
Both IR and ARR are genius-es. I dont think anybody can take that away. Baba songs are not matching what an RK film should have, but from a pure music sense, two - three songs are definitely good (just for the music)-see my earlier post for which ones they are.

"Three songs are definitely good (just for the music)"
Any idea how one can listen to the "music" and not the "song"?
Is this one of those BABAisms again?
Even after half a dozen replays I can't hum the chorus of a single track from this album. The proof of the pudding...as they say.
(BTW - I concur that both MDs you mention are gifted and exceptional. But I am sure they can also tell which work is "genius" and which work is not.)
