KB hmmmm... i agree totally with pamaran when he asked KB in kumudam bagiranga kadithangal ' ivalo naal nalla nalla nadangangal paarthom, sari eppa padam edukka poringa veedu madri'
Sridhar.. was no great director either. i agree that these two people experimented a lot with human emotions and feelings and relationships. but all this cud ve been done well within the framework of a stageplay. cinema is a audio visual medium and we dont need any stage plays here.

And do I remember Rajasaranam telling in the post to me that he knows not much about K.Balachander and Sridhar?

cos bala has time and again stressed upon the point that this is pucca commercial movie
____________________________
So, Bala was afraid the movie won't be a success. And, that was why he added commercial elements into the film, like Surya's comedy (huh?), Surya's love affair, Simran's dance, etc.
But, I just couldn't help but comment that Bala is so so amateurish as far as mixing commercial elements into the film. Shankar is a great exponent of the art. So, why should Bala try something he "can't" do?
Of course, the comedy was "downright" bad, simran's dance was unnecessary, etc.

"BAD" in the sense, unclassy.

I cannot fathom how Will can castigate Bala for vulgarity while hailing Shankar as a great director. Has he seen Boys yet? Of for that matter does he remember the 'mullu theriyutha?' scene from Gentleman?

Chandler,
That was a nice review.
I am quoting a few points from that review:
1 .The director doesn’t give any good reason for Chitthan behaving in an animal-like fashion. I don’t think that the fact that he was brought up by an undertaker is a good reason for us to believe it.
*Yeah, an obvious fault.
2. I also felt that the director was trying to manipulate a lot with the emotions of the audience…that is , create a good feeling in the beginning and then abruptly spoil the mood by ending it in a tragic manner.
*Right
3. If the story lends itself to the climax, then it is acceptable.. The climax seems a bit forced upon by the director…It does show how Chitthan is attached to Sakthivel ,but then I think there are many other ways to show it too. It is not that I don’t like tragic climaxes but I just felt that it was totally inappropriate in a story like this.
*Absolutely
4. Also,Manju falls in love with Sakthi after 2 or 3 meetings. The reason why Manju falls in love is absurd and can happen only in films. I wonder why she wants to be with him when she very well knows that he is a crook. In fact, she was responsible for sending him to jail!! The reasons are not good enough…
*Oh yeah!
4 .The comedy scenes involving Sakthivel and his friends are good but I don’t think it was classy…It could have been more refined.
*Exactly
5.The song sequence with Simran was unnecessary and the director could have used this time to show the bonding between Sakthivel and Chitthan.
*Very correct

I think it is pretty natural for some one to self-escalate when they have done a good job.why do we always expect people to be very humble and say that "ellam kadavul seyal".why do we always have to envy talented people. This is a complete bala movie to every frame and why shouldn't he take credit for that, cmon man have u seen laila ACTING in any movie??, all the credit goes to bala, and Senty wrote:

he has the right to self-escalate himself. We didn't like it when kamal did it or when illayaraaja did it.but u cannot deny the fact that, it was the stuff that they had that made them do that.u cannot deny that they are talented.

Yes, Illayaraja and Kamal deserve it 'cause they had achieved something. How much do you say had Bala achieved with his three films, compared to the other two people who you set on par with Bala?

regarding ur comments on interview and stuff what has that got to do with the movie.u can say in one line that u didn't like the movie because u didn't like bala.when u read a review in hindu or vikatan do u ever read lines like i didn't like the way the director gave the interview, or i didn't like the way the director has combed his hair.when ur talkin abt a movie.just talk abt the movie not ur personal opinions on people involved in creating it.

Did I say I didn't like the movie because I did not like Bala's attitude? I would never. I just mentioned that as a sidebar, though here, at the top. Also, I did not say that I did not "LIKE" the movie at all. I was trying to "review" (or rate, whichever you prefer) it neutrally.

I agree with rajsarnam. Bala is unique but others are good as well. I would not include shankar in this list. Gentleman has all the vulgar scenes and games in it. PM has violence and its rated "A". So its not for children or "weak hearted" adults. The same guys watch english movies with greater violence. PM is more of series of incidents than a proper story which you expect . A movie need not have a story to be considered good. Moreover, Vikram hitting policemen is just an incident in the movie it does not glorify vikram, its just whats happening in real world.
velji,
After seeing your comment, I saw no wonder movies like dhool and dum are a hit in TN. Though bala was sounding little over confident, If these TV channels criticize a movie, I dont see any reason why Bala cannot criticize there judgement. If he sues ... its the court to decide.

will,
"Yes, Illayaraja and Kamal deserve it 'cause they had achieved something. How much do you say had Bala achieved with his three films, compared to the other two people who you set on par with Bala? "
you are saying this now.you wouldn't have told this when kamal was young and cocky.kamal lost lot of fan's ,and rajini gained a lot of them, because of the so called humbleness.A boost to your ego that this talent person still respects you.bala has certainly not acheived anything compared to the 2.for a change please read other's post also clearly. what i told was he get's every credit for PM.He has given a honest movie, which stands out from big budget, hi-tech gizmo's, newspaper headline stories and illusionary effect. He deserves all the credit for PM and he SHOULD be cocky about it.

"Did I say I didn't like the movie because I did not like Bala's attitude? I would never. I just mentioned that as a sidebar, though here, at the top."
Why talk sidebar about things that has got nothing to do with the movie.why write a side bar about self escalation of director bala, drinking habits of light man ramasamy, or the spirituality of producer durai??.How the movie has been made has got nothing to do with the people involved in the movie or how they express themselves.
