Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

All original tracks in "KO" were sang by DC. This is very common in the film songs as singers like SPB usually are not available when the song is recorded. I recall having listen some of the tracks of KO sung by DC and Sasirekha. My friend had some film world connections and had obtained the recordings from DC himself.
I am not sure of the story of why one of song of DC wass retained. In fact, DC, Sasirekha etc were regular track singers for Raja.

A basic question, since when track-singing started in Tamil? I have serious apprehensions about track recordings in KO days, because I remember to have read SPB was over worked and out-stretched those days, singing (read it recording) as many as 15 songs in a day, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Paanipuri, ...
Could someone clarify who goes into record (or is it otherway, who did not go in to record) as the first ever track-singer in TFM?
Udaya, Vijay, ... We cooled off over the weekend, agreeing to disagree. Cannot, but add this; Udaya, your words on PSusheela could have easily come from me. That exactly is my opinion.

So, why don't we pick the song of our day till bb is around ?
The song of my day is 'Inda manrathil odi varum
Ilam thenralai ketkinren' film - police kaaran magal . The soothing , velvetty touch of SJ's and PBS 's voices make the song unforegettable.
Friends,May I know which songs have made your day?

AV used an acronym in his "venkat - just saw your post. VJ and teacher amma, ear-shattering, murderer of songs! ROTFL! :-)"... thats why I asked... Thanks Raja M. AV its toooooooo much :-(((((
Mythila, this song was a very soft and gentle one, no doubt, but IMHO, it is very monotonous without any bhavam... EnnavO, kaigaLai katti kondu paadum school-pasanga paaduvadhu pola irukku. Again IMHO, SJ was very much inward (romba sannmaaga without the portray of her involvement) while singing during those days. Thanks to IR who made an operation thunder to kalakkify her voice and expressions (should I have used IMAO ???)
But anyway OISG (here I use the phrase 'old is gold'). And my post is definitely INMO :-)

Song of the Day: nadhi engE vaLaiyum from uyirOdu uyiraaga.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/nadhienge.rm
- I found this off-beat song in Uyirodu Uyiraaga very intriguing and interesting. The Music is by Vidhyasagar, and the song is sung by Ghanshyam. I could have sworn that this was by Ajoy Chakraborti.
- The song has great lyrics (Vairamuthu?). I've written down the lyrics. It is like the modern version of "mayakkamaa kalakkamaa". Here it goes:
Nadhi engE vaLaiyum?
karai reNdum aRiyum
madhi engE alaiyum?
aagaayam aRiyum
vidhi engE viLaiyum?
adhu yaarukkuth theriyum
adhai aRindhu sollavum madhi illai
madhi irundhaal adhan pEr vidhi illai (nadhi)
virumbi yaarum piRappadhum illai
virumbiya paaththiram kidaippadhum illai
pidikkum vaazkkai amaindhadhum illai
salikkum manadhil sandhOsham illai
ettu naaL vaazhum pattaampoochi
iRappaip paRRi ninaippathum illai
arupathu vayadhu aayuL koNdavan
irubadhu nimidam vaazhvadhum illai
naaLai enbadhai vidhiyidam koduththu
indru enbadhai eduththu nadaththu
kaNNeer thuLiyai kazhaRRi eduththu
punnagai aNindhu pOrai nadaththu (nadhi)
kanavu kaaNbadhu kaNgaLin urimai
kanavu kalaippadhu kaalaththin urimai
sidhaindha kanavai sErththu sErththu
araNmaNai kattudhal avaravar thiramai
ovvoru nodiyilum unnadham kaaNbadhu
ulagil pirandha uyirgaLin urimai
niRaindha vaazhvu nEraadhirundhaal
vandhadhil niRaivadhu vaazhvin kadamai
naaLai enbadhai vidhiyidam koduththu
indru enbadhai eduththu nadaththu
kaNNeer thuLiyai kazhaRRi eduththu
punnagai aNindhu pOrai nadaththu (nadhi)
- The first guitar interlude adds to the flow of the song. The song also has above average vocal chorus. My respect for Vidhyasagar keeps increasing as I find out more gems from his music. Uyirodu uyiraaga was a musical hit by him, "poovukkellaam siragu muLaiththadhu" was featured in SOTD before.
- Does anyone know about this singer Ghanshyam?

Vidayasagar's songs that impressed me the most are the ones that he first came up with some 6 or 7 years back in Arasiyal and Pudhayal, the songs being "Vaa saki" and "Poothirukkum vaname". The latter is one of the few songs where HH has sung with some life in his voice. "Vaarai en thozhiye" from Arasiyal was also a good composition. These sounded fresh (both the tunes as well as orchestration) and was more than a good alternative to ARRs songs at that time, making me think that VS was here to stay. Unfortunately the films were duds and hence some of his better songs went unnoticed. I am not too high on some of his latest works including Paarthiban Kanavu.

Uyiroadu Uyiraaga songs had some of the best guitar work in TFM ever. Production quality was also world class. Of course the gem of the album is "anbae anbae" a mesmeric tune.

Song of the Day: minnal oru kOdi from VIP.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/minnaloru.rm
- MD is Ranjit Barot. Sung by Hariharan.
- Ranjit Barot made an impressive debut with this film, but didn't do any more films. He remains an arranger/drummer for the likes of A.R.Rahman and Annu Malik.
- What happened to Ranjit Barot after scoring VIP ? http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/6946.07.54.31.html

Sad that he working with someone like Anu Malik .. One funny thing I read few days back was Anu saying that his song for the movie "main prem ki diwani hoon" named "bani bani" bu chitra is the best song ever sung by chitra. God Anu has no idea about then gems sung in tamil by chitra under IR and ARR and some marvelous numbers in malayalam.

bb- doesn't Chitra sing along with Hariharan?
Among Simran's earliest films, maybe after Once More and around the same time as Nerkku Naer.
'Eechankaattu kuyilonnu'-Kay Kay & Anupama is another great song.
