For a good understanding of how to approach this ongoing symposium, please refer to the thread, "Kannadhaasan Vs. Vairamuthu TFM Symposium Topic 1:Iyarkai Varnanai" before you post. Let me reiterate that this is not a patti mandram, but
a research symposium.
Please show TFM examples of both poets with regards to just their Nagaichchuvai Paadalgal for this thread. Please provide the name of the song whose lines you excerpt and the name of the movie if known. Here are the symposium categories, the bold topics are yet to be discussed:
1)Iyarkai Varnanai
2)Kaadhal Paadalgal
3)Thaththuva Paadalgal
4)Vaarthai Prayoagam
5)Nagaichchuvai Paadalgal
6)Samudhaaya Seerthirutha / Puratchi Paadalgal
7)Vingyaana/Naveena Karuthoottum Paadalgal
8)Ilakkiya Moolam Ulla Paadalgal
9)Kadhaikku Porundhiya Paadalgal(situational songs)
10)Kavidhai Milekarkal (Poetic Milestones that the poets will be remembered by!)

Prakash, I use the same argument for humor as I did for Vaarththai Prayoagam. As long as both poets have shown their stuff in these unquantifiable, subjective topics I can't rule any other way but a tie. You are welcome to give your judgement and as before, we will go by popular consensus.

Udhaya,
To do justice you should add one more thread as 11. Penaaththalaana paadalgaL.
I understand that this is negative thinking. But consider this. Machine A produces 100 good products and 200 garbage. Machine B produces 50 good and 50 garbage. you can see machine A is more efficient than machine B as per quality is considered. Besides, in case of a tie this evaluation helps.
There are many a song written just for rhymes and no reason. We should weed out these songs. what do you say guys?

My vote goes to kaviyarasar for this nagaichchuvaip pAdalgaL category. I agree with Udhaya that nagaichchuvai is a subjective feeling. I also believe, nagaichchuvai enbathu sirippathRkAga mattumalla, sindhikkavumthAn. From this view point, we can see kaviyarasar's songs stand apart (madras nalla madras - oru nalla uthAraNam). kaviyarasarin pAdalgaLil eLimaiyAna naiyANdi irukkum. VM-in pAdalgaLil kallOOrik kuRumbugaL athigam iruppathAgath therigiRathu, IMHO (thalaimuRai idaiveLiyinAlO?).

The votes so far:
Udhaya: VM=Kannadhaasan, a tie.
Prakash: Kannadhaasan
Pagalavan: Kannadhaasan
Reva: Kannadhaasan? (Please make it clear with a summation)
I don't want to leave this around for another week. But let's see if another five or six individuals respond here.

Based on the responses in this thread, I'd vote for KD. Somehow, IMO, VM's facility with words while describing nature and love doesn't seem to extend to humor. Like Pagalavan said, his humor seems more of the "kallOOri galAAttA" type (though this may be due to a new generation of film-goers). KD's humor seems more embracing of a larger social context. So chalk me down for KD on this subject.

Udhaya,
My arrguments for choosing Kannadhasan is better than VM.
KaNNadhasan never wrote "Abaasam" in the name of "N-aagai Suvai". It may be too harsh.. but it is the fact.
VM:-

Prakash, your views are duly noted. Athikkai is an awesome song, but one thing it doen't do is make me laugh or even smile. It just isn't a Nagaichchuvai Song in my opinion.

As a song it may not be N-agaichchuvai Song. If you watch the movie you will enjoy the
N-agaichchuvai in that.

Looks like it's 4 to 1 for Kannadhaasan. So Kannadhaasan is realized here as a better writer of "Nagaichchuvai Paadalgal."

Thamizh Alex, G.Raghavan,
If you want to comment on a 10-part symposium, at least browse through half of them to understand the nature of the project before weighing in with your off-the-cuff responses. If there's a comparable attribute between two people in the same field, comparing them is very sensible and doing so objectively reveals many truths. If you care to realize the nature of the project, you would realize the serious work that went into it. This is nothing short of a research project.
Thamizh is too vast and rich to be exhausted by a Kannadhaasan or a Vairamuthu. To feel that Kannadhaasan is the only one to write good Thamizh doesn't necessarily exalt Kannadhaasan; it only denigrates Thamizh. If you sincerely love Thamizh, then you would welcome a healthy scrutiny of lyrics regardless of who wrote it.
It's becomning increasingly apparent to me over the years that most Indians only seek to read opinions that reiterate their existing feelings. The art of discourse, of entertaining the opposite point of view is becoming extinct.
