every singer is unique. SPB cannot sound like Rafi and vice versa. if SPB tried to sound like Rafi, he would become a clone thereby sacrificing his own originality. Therefore your statement above is true in a way. Rafi did not sing any naughty song the way SPB would have done it (not to mention that Rafi was a Hindi-singer and SPB a tamil-telugu singer). However before you keep on making comparisons, it would be wise to listen to a few such songs by Rafi.

Your statement "SPB is the greatest in india" made so many times is quite subjective. SPB was/is definitely one of India's very very best. But there were/are a few others in the same league. No objective assessment can be made out of that. It is left to personal choices. So your personal choice for SPB is welcome, but other people are gonna have their own choices.

Every singer is unique in his own way. SPB couldnt have sung Rafi's old songs with the same effect, just as Rafi couldnt have done justice to SPBs songs. Hope you understand it, sigh! :-(

raghu- it wasnt just one film at all. If one hasnt heard those songs, then I dont think one can so categorically state who is the greatest..

AVR is quite right about Rafi singing naughty tunes. Listen to the songs in Junglee, Kashmir ki kali, Brahmachaari, Dil deke dekho, Theesri manzil and so many more. Shammi was thought to be the Indian version (!!) of Elvis Priestley and, as people familiar with his movies know, he never couldn't stand straight in his songs:-) Well, he chose Rafi to sing almost all of such songs and many of them can be considered as the "teasing" and "naughty" numbers. Shammi wouldn't have been so popular but for his naughty songs with Rafi's voice. It is not at all fair (IMO) to compare this teasing aspect of two singers when the topic is so subjective to begin with.

I believe it's YOU who started this issue of Rafi's kindal songs and you wanted to listen to any of such songs. I thought it would be nice to mention a few here.
Also, if you consider both SPB and Rafi as legends, then why do you even begin to compare them, I don't understand. Does anyone ever compare Balamuralikrishna and MSSubbulakshmi to see who sings better? And even if someone did so, would it make any sense? Just one small example before I stop. Just as Rafi cannot do full justice typical southindian semi-classical songs, similarly SPB cannot do full justice to northindian Qawwalis that Rafi is very well known for.
FYI: I am a big time SPB & Rafi fan.
