Vidyasagar seems hell bent on giving at least one song to Udit Narayan in every film of his, and Udit doesn't seem to put in an iota of effort in pronunciation, forget getting into the emotions of the songs. It's not the question of correct accent, but butchering of lyrics!!! Any ideas why VS has this dreadful fascination?

vairamuthu in some interview said that during 'thenmerku paruvakkaatru' song's (karuthamma) recording, he was present and he couldnt bear Unnikrishnan go "vaanavillin thundondru mannil vandhu, yaarukkum sollaamal PONNAANADHEY". he intervened and corrected it to "PENNAANADHEY". i guess he'll go on medical leave or bang his head against every available wall when vidyasagar (or other MDs) with uditnarayan go hammer and tongs during recording.
somehow cant resist thinking the 'manager character' in "Manmadha leelai" always going "Maapaavi, chandaala" whenever the hero character confides his leelais to him. am sure Vairamuthu feels the same in those situations with Udit. :-)) NOM.

Udit is a torture, when he makes no efforts to sing in Tamil. He sings the ransliterated lines in 20 minutes, and zooms off to Bombay. Now, Vidyasagar surely has to take the (dis) credit for unfailingly bringing him down Souh to sing in each of hgis films (may be sentimental reasons?? Who knows)...
If that wasn't enough, now Adnan Samis and Sukhvinder Singhs are raking in the moolah by jumping on to the tamil bandwagon... while the 'AemaaLI' Tamil audience m,eekly accepts what's been thrwon at them.

Piratheepan,
i dont know if u said that for fun...well, if u did, ignore this message!
What u said lacks logic. If that holds people like TMS,SPB,MSV,Sachin Tendulkar,Pete Sampras,Michael Schumacher,Michael Jordan,Diego Maradona,Pele,Ronaldo etc etc can never be criticised in their respective fields by anybody. Criticism should be considered as long as it is healthy and unbiased. No one here is complaining about his Hindi, it's his tamil that pricks everybody and he makes it a point to irritate. Athu paruva illaiya?!

To put all these frustrations to an end we the listeners should boycott all songs sung by non Tamils. It is really an insult to the 50 million Tamils. Are they saying that there are no good Tamil singers? We tamils are always the suckers when are we really going to wake up and put an end?
Are we really helping our own race? I still can't
understand what is the basis behind this.
If at all i am listening to Tamil songs it is only from the 60's.
It was the GOLDEN ERA with MSV TKR,KVM,KANNADHASAN,VAALEE,TMS PS these are the real Tamil songs.
I f we are not going to send a clear message to the producers and music directors these type of questions will arise.
WE SHOULD LEARN TO HELP OUR OWN RACE FIRST THAN OTHERS.

PACHAI THAMIZHAN,
such a drastic act is not possible ... this is music and a racist outlook wud be unfair ... SPB is from Andhra, but he still made an enormous effort to pronounce the words properly and the results are well known ... boycotting the non tamil singers is just isnt practical ... it is upto the MDs to make the right choices considering

Dear curryleaf,
Let us be more practical in our approach, do you sincerely think that a good tamil singer will be able to command in other languages if he is not given the support?
Only the Tamils have a such warmheart but in the end they are the losers.Well your name speaks for itself(curryleaf)this is what our situation.
My question is are you still saying that that there no good Tamil singers from the 50 odd million population?
Again I am insisting that the Tamils should be given the PRIORITY and not other races.
If really is there is a shortage they can always pick from the Loyal Tamils from Malaysia and Singapore.

I didnt say anything about there not being "good" Tamil singers. There are lotta Tamil singers out there, but I do welcome Udit's singing at times. Its like spicing up an album. I know that he has horrible pronounciations, but I'll sound like a dork by saying this, but I find his accent extremely cute.
I enjoy his singing as much as I enjoy the singing of others.
Your first line/first question, "command" what?
And why are you pulling my name inot this? What gives?

PACHAI THAMIZHAN,
ur message shud have been adrressed to me i guess! :-) ... atleast a part of it?? ... is dat rite??!! :-)
and yeah...i get ur point that we just make ourseleves look like suckers....as in encouraging all the other ppl but discouraging our own people ... i know here that u are referring to the attitude of the 'Northies' too ... but shudnt it just be like 'as long as some1 sings good with proper pronounciation and feelings, doesnt matter who does it'?? ... isnt this the correct attitude looking at things from an unbiased point of view?

Either Udit should invest some time in learning the basics of the language he is singing in (just like his counterparts from the South do in the North), or should only continue with his Hindi numbers.
His is not the problem with Accents. Accents are acceptable. It's his absolute massacre of the language to the extent of not being able to figure out any word is what is irritating.
Is there a dearth of singers who can sing well in Tamil? There are quite a few singers(in fact most of them are non-Tamil) who have done extremely well on the diction and have delivered quality rendering so far. Why should Vidyasagar take Udit in each film instead of picking Jayachandran, Unni Menon, Madhu Balakrishnan, Kay Kay (all Malayalees) or SPB, Malaysia Vasudevan, Sriram Parthasarathy, Karthik etc.?
Beats me! Is there a sentimental reason to give him at least 1 song in a film?

Dear Rasika, I understand what you are saying but my question is why settle for a second class when we can settle for the first.Just imagine bringing someone teaching him the language and all the coaching and in the end people like us have to argue and listen to the horrible songs.
The non Tamils maybe good singers but if one wants to listen to them they can always listen in their respective languages whereby I think they will do a good job.
We listeners should not be shortchanged just because anybody can sing.Do not forget those who are responsible are depriving a fellow Tamilian of his chances. As I mentioned earlier I may sound racist but that is the fact of life.We have to help ourselves first.I am very sure every race helps themselves first except the Tamils.
I seriously believe we should boycott such songs.

i was bein a lil serious.i just shoulda been clearer, what i meant is can the ppl bashin speak and pronounce thamil perfectly?of course there is room for criticism....u said michael jordan u do realize hes a bball player......?but the diff between healthy criticism and just bashing is posing solutions such as sum have said get a tutor or what not.that make more sence c~p?sorry for the confusion the first time but i did enjoy readin ur comments.
Im sure if there were singers out there trying for a chance there would be morre singers, but the thing is ppl like the style ppl from the north bring. and i wouldnt say u can understand the songs they sing, cuz I can even understand what they are saying and im weak in thamil.
why should u bring racism in music, its music which breaks down these barriers Pachai Thamizhan ur an insult to the name u wear. Why u writing in english?=P
Another reason these ppl r used cuz its diff and "new" from the same ol singers we hear.Cuz if u think abt it realli how many singers(well known) are their in the field?we dont see many new singers gettin in maybe there arent as many tamil singers who realli want a chance as u say.who know.
