All of us would have had the experience of having been emotionally affected (moved, exhilirated, etc.) upon listening to a song (some song or the other). So, why don't we put down the songs that have affected us so, and also mention what feelings the song(s) evoked in us, upon hearing it...
Frankly speaking, I got this idea during the discussions with Vijay, Suresh, Srikanth, etc. in the thread, Raja Should Retire ?! :)

Makkale,
when u post a song lets not forget the reasoning behind the topic(sorry great topic) started by viswa. Instead of just listing the songs please write a few lines(I know sometimes it is very difficult) of how the particular song affected you emotionally.
like mfm had said this is a great topic to be moved to the permanent list. guessing from all our enthu responses lets hope Ravi and the TFM admins would kindly take this into consideration.
To add a few more songs to my list
1. kanna unai thedugiren vaa, kaadal kuyil paadugiren vaa - SP.B voice is so great and a perfect fit for this song kettukonde irukkalam pol irukkum. one of my favorites but I don't know what movie it is.
2. Senthaalam poovil vandhadum thendral en meethu mothuthamma - words cannot describe this song, I am sure everyone agress with me. A masterpiece, nice song to hear especially when u are alone and travelling through a scenic route.
3. raja raja chozhan naan - very melodious song.
Is it true that all emotionally moving songs are either soga paatukkal or slow moving songs? or is it just my imagination?
thanks guys, keep them coming and hats off once again to viswa for a beautiful topic.

can anyone list the songs from the movie "Niram maaratha pookal". I know there are some great songs in this movie but I just can't remember them now.

Hi,
Chandru: Enakku nyabagam irukkara ore song "Aayiram malargale malarungal".
BTW, this topic is great. Unfortunately, next 2 weeks ennaala net access panna mudiyaadhu.
Back in 1990-95 I knew IR was great and loved songs. But in 1995-98 period I have developed an attachment, bonding to IR's music. You know why ?
It is because of the emotional impact. The emotional expression is very good in IR's songs.
My examples,
Melody
1. AnnakiliyE unnai thedudhu
I cannot think of a better example of a really melodious song, supposed to be sung by an innocent village girl. Whenever I say melody I seem to think of this song.
2. Thendral vanthu ennai thodum
Really melodious.
Overwhelming
1. Thenral vanthu theendum pothu. - Avatharam
Dont ask me why. I am moved to tears every time I listen to this. The lyrics are simple and also expresses the deep love between two people.
2.
Arithaarathai poosi kolla aasai
Attam katti adavu poda aasai - Avatharam
Unless you appreciate the character for whom the song is written you cannot appreciate this song. But if one would imagine to be in the Nasser's role, I think there is no better way to express this song. I can even say that Avatharam is an album that created an emotional impact. I could not afford to change the cassette even once on my way when driving from Newark to Baltimore - 5 hrs.
3. Puthithaai ketkum putham pudhu keerthanam
Great rendition. Chitra has that extra melancholy in her voice which adds so much to feeling. Very good lyrics. I dont remember the lines but there is line where she thinks of herself as a lonely star in moonlit night. It is very moving.
4. Almost all the songs that IR has SUNG.
Thanks,
Mux

Hello Mux.,
I too agree with Putithaai ketkum in Raman Abdullah. An amazing song and the lyrics are superb! Like u said when she says , Alagai vaanam, athil nilavai naanum.." Terrific.. When i hear this, i can visualise being in a vast plain say in Swiss or someplace and some distant voice singing ..I could even visualise the weather and time.. Amzing that a song can have as much of impact on u'r mood.
A very similar song again by chitra is "Kottum melangal .." in Makkal aatchi . This is infact better than the raman abdullah song. This song is not in the movie and hence went unnoticed.
More to come.!!

Of the emotional songs, who can forget the hit song "Raathiriyill poothirukkumm taamarai taan penno " I don't know which ragam IR has used.
And again from 'Payanangal Mudivadillai' IR was at his best in "Togai Ilamayil Aadi varuguthu Vaanill Mazhai varumo" In fact there are intellectual pieces in this film but "ilayanila pozhigirathu" overshadowed all these songs.
And the best I like from the lullabies is 'Tooliyile aala vanda...' from chinnatambi.

The song 'Kanne Navamaniye' from En Bommukutti ammavukku is an excellent song which touches your heart. The song was not available in the casette for sometime. After sometime they added this song.

Kudos to Viswa for pitching in this nice topic!
My favourites:
1) "Akkarai Cheemai azhahinilE", The song enticed
me at the age of 4 and created a stronger bond
with IR. It also moved a bunch of "vAndUs" to
create a music troop where the eldest one was
10 years. We created all kinds of intrumental
sounds using the unused "thaharam", 'chatti's'
and "pAnai's'
from every ones' home. Sounds very silly and
funny even if i think about it now. There was
a abandoned storage room in our compound
where we had our musical enchantings. We were
trying to do all the "priya" songs. I was
really mad after that till my mother did 'tin
kattufying' to me oneday for not reading
in the evening. One of my favourite melodies
of IR, KJY combo.
2) "Tharisanam kidaikkAdha" from alaigal
Oivadhilai - IR and SJ versions.
Both are soul stirring.
It is an oinment to me.
3) Almost all SJ solos by IR. IR is lucky to
have SJ and SJ must be proud to have IR.

One superhit song from malayalam film "poomughappadiyil ninneyum kaathu" is excellent piece by maestro. The song starts like "Poongaatinodumm" rendered by KJY. You really feel like floating in the space. Such a soothing effect.

1.Chinna Kannan Azhaikiran - fm Kavikuil nice song in Reethigowlai by Balamurali Krishna. The verses "Anda Manam Konda Ragasiya Raagathai paadi" goes really well and starts "Chinaa Kannan..."
2. Aval Parandu ponaleee..- fm Paar Magale paar - The TMS-PBS combo takes one to the situation whenever one listens to the song esp the part "Inda vetuku vilakillai.."
3. Tunbam nergayil Yaazh eduthu - This song is set to my favorite ragam Desh and has been wriiten by Bharathidasanar
4. Thenkizhakku Cheemayile - fm Kizhakku Cheemayile depicts annan- thangai paasam in a very nice melody
5. Thendral Vandu teendum bodu - this song fm Avadharam views the world thru the eyes of a visually handicapped person thanks to IR and SJ
6. Tamizh Tamizha - fm Roja is a special song coz the 1995 Ethiraj College gumbal(batch) can never forget this number - a runaway hit with the college crowd whenever our team used to sing it on stage esp. the interlude music played on the piano , just b4 the start of the paragraph "Inaam maaralam..". Whenever we used to sing it at the practise sessions too, it was moving to sing VM's verses..Nava Bharadham poduvaanadu..idu veryvayal uruvaanadu.."

Wow ! That really has been quite a response from you all !! Thanks for the excellent start, guys. :)
I have experienced similar feelings as some of you have mentioned, particularly
for the songs :
* ThAlAttudhE vAnam - somehow, the song evokes a feeking of sailing on a boat at dusk, with a cool breeze blowing around.
* Puththam Pudhu kAlai - overwhelms me with the feeling of nature, and as MSK has said, a scene with a stream in the middle of a field and lambs jumping all around.
* UravugaL Thodarkadhai - This song moves me to tears by its sheer melody. The piano and the flute pieces in the song at the interludes have the maximum effect. This song reminds me of my childhood (Vijay, I was amazed to find that you felt the same way !).
Here are some more songs that have moved me to tears :
* KadavuL uLLamE karuNai illamE (from Anbulla Rajinikanth) - the scene where the children sing in the orphanage, and the tune of the song are very touching.
* PArtha vizhi (from Guna) - rather than the song by itself, Kamal's acting when the song starts (after having a vision of Abirami) heightens the impact of the song.
* OrE idam, idam perum (It's a P. Susheela song of IR, of the late '70s. Film ??) - I find the melody haunting. In fact, when I first heard this song, I was about 6 years old, and I remember I could'nt get over this song that night.
* Idhayam PogudhE (from Pudhiya VArpugaL) - This song stirs me greatly, particul
arly, the piece "lA lala lalalA lAlA la lA" which keeps coming so often
in the movie whenever the shot shows Bhagyaraj and Rathi swinging from the tree.
* Azhagiya KannE (Udhiri PookaL) - This song has an inherent pathos to it, and evokes feelings of sadness towards the heroine. (Bhava, I think that's what you have said too).
Some songs that are exhilirating :
* PAdi vA thenralE (sung by Jayachandran, Film ??) - I find this an extremely lively number.
* Senorita (Johny) - SPB has captured the joy in the occasion very beautifully in his rendering of this song. Takes you places !
* AdungaL pAdungaL (Guru - Tamil) - Another fast-paced song that elevates the spirit !
By the way, there is this song "Pon vAnam panneer thoovudhu innEram" (from the movie "InRu nee nALai nAn"), sung by S. Janaki. There is a subtle sensuality that this song portrays, with
sheer melody.
There are many more songs that have stirred deep feelings in me. I shall mention them later...

Viswa
The P Susheela song is from the same movie as the song 'Sorgam Mahuviley' (Sattam Yen Kayyil). That melody is that type of rare melody that Raja always gives to P Susheela. However, this song is one of the greatest songs that evokes many deep feelings with your soul.
Remmber that interlude in that song sung my MV La la Lala La Laaa. La La La La Laa laa, etc... This song takes me to the days when I try to stand by for a empty bus after school and the evening sun brings out a nice feeling of the people walking back home, etc.
I think the P Jayachandran song is Poo Thendrale, Nalla Neram .......
In InRu Nee Nalai Nan, there is a super number by SPB, Yennamma Kopam, Yenninda Vegam , .... Everything is special about that song.
