What is Contribution? It means doing some thing that has never been done before. Or playing a significant role. In Thamizh, the word that comes to mind is "puratchi."
I believe every aspect of our great Isai Gnani has been explored in this forum except for a particular genre of songs. In this particular kind of songs, Ilayaraja is the mudisoodaa mannan. No one from MSV, KVM, ARR can touch Ilayaraja in this matter.
Okay, enough of this, let me get to the matter at hand. I urge all Fans, Fanatics, Dissenters and everyone else to contribute to this thread. Let me do the Pillayar Suzhi:
1. Nethu rathiri yemma (ursurpassed description of what happened)
2. Nilaa kaayuthu (who would have thought that munungals can be put to tune)
3. Antha nilavathaan naa kaiyule pudichen (by the master himself)
4. Eduthu vach paalum virichu vacha paayum (if music can be sexy, this is it)
5. Maaman oru naal malliyapoo koduthaan (innocent but deadly)
6. Orampo orampo rukkumani vandi varuthu (no doublespeak here - every thing is direct)
7. Raathiriyil poothirukkum (what a romatic song!)
8. Vaada vaattuthu (yet another masterpiece by the master himself)

I am not a ARR fan, but a fan of good music.

:-)) Gowri, u remember vividly lewd & bawdy lyrics,(so much so that u deem it fit to create a thread for it), but fall miserably short with decent ones, eh? Its not "Naan kaanum Ulagam yaar kaana thondrum" but "Naan kaanum ulagangal yaar kaana koodum?". [Perhaps some mukkals & munagals here & there by Hariharan in that KAASI song might have kindled ur interest better
:-)))..] Lighter vein, NOM :-))))

Hi,
What do u guys expect a MD can do for that kind of situation given by the director? can he put a classical tune to it? What could be wrong in adding mukkal and munagals to THAT TYPE of song. By that way, atleast we come to know, they are of that sort thus by avoid hearing in a decent crowd. In his span of 25 years and 800+ films, how many songs he had given like that? If u start digging this, dont u find vulgarity in current songs? Why the hell u refrain urself on commenting on vulgarity in a decent romantic song like azhagaana raathchashiyae from mudhalvan?? Esp in the lines, neeraaga naan irunthaal.... Ithellaam kudumbatthoda ukkaandhu rasippeenga illaiyaa?? Atleast IR gave that distinction of knowing a song whether it's good or bad. So, u dont see any vulgarity in any of the songs in the film INDU, right??? Dont u see any vulgarity in the some songs in VANDICHOLAI SINNARAASU???? If u want to blame IR for this, u can always do that. I point is every MD is of that sort. They are forced to do that. Do u want a list of MGR songs that are tuned by our great MSV which has lots and lots of MUKKALS AND MUNAGALS?? ennayya paesureenga? Ungalukku aethaavathu IR kitta Kurai sollittae irukkanum, illai?? Pongayya, neengalum unga so called vetthu vaettum. EERA VENGAAYAM..... SHAME ON U GUYS!!!!

This is the point where yaaro needs to come and EXPLAIN to people like Saran, why Ilayaraja is the KING of Vulgarity.

magix little man, u see, IR Fans have claimed that all movies by MR became a hit bcos of his (IR's) music, they blame ARR for the extensive use of English words in his songs and argue that certain lyric writers could only have hits bcos of his music. [believe me, I am not making this up. If u need evidence, I can give u pointers to previous threads where as much have been said] So Gowri, is now using their own logic against them.
As you can see from Saran's post, now IRFs can't make up their mind on whether to deny that it is his fault [What do u guys expect a MD can do for that kind of situation given by the director? every MD is of that sort. They are forced to do that], or to admit that he revolutionised it [Atleast IR gave that distinction of knowing a song whether it's good or bad] or to deny he revolutionised it [Do u want a list of MGR songs that are tuned by our great MSV which has lots and lots of MUKKALS AND MUNAGALS]. In fact they can't even make up their mind if it is a good thing [What could be wrong in adding mukkal and munagals to THAT TYPE of song] or a bad thing [dont u find vulgarity].
Hence, the confusion.

:-) dearest whynot,
///"...Gowri, is now using their own logic against them."///
:-)tch tch, that was a plain confession that this thread's sole motive is to 'retaliate' on all IR Fans grossly, just b'cos there are some threads which say ARR uses too much English? C'mon man...so much for "HIDDEN AGENDAs"...

twilight_zone, I can't comment for Gowri on what her agenda was in starting this thread. We did not sign an agreement or hold consultations before starting the thread. :-)
Hence I can't possibly 'confess' what was on Gowri's mind when she started the thread.

so u confess u have doubts on why at all such a "good" thread shud be created in first place?

"i can't comment on what this thread's agenda was"..
- From: WhyNot (@ 203.24.100.132) on: Wed Mar 6 06:01:25 EST 2002
what's wrong wit tat vel???
'agenda' doesn't have to be a wrong or bad agenda right? It cud be an agenda to explore indepth or simply to highlight such an area to those who know little about it right?
I for one, gained alot of knowledge on the erotic possibilities of tfm from this thread.
:-)
- From: twilight_zone (@ 202.88.152.159) on: Wed Mar 6 06:11:37 EST 2002
dearest whynot,
:-)) what a stunning left-handed optimism to hazard a guess on a thread that plainly tells you what might be its "noble" agenda? And if at all u or gowri wanted to enhance ur knowledge on "eroticism", u cud have considered a larger "sample size" for your research, why restrict to ilaiyaraja alone. Huh? :-)). For example, ARR is no saint when it comes to getting bawdy, is he? Are we running short of examples here? ;-)
- From: WhyNot (@ 203.24.100.132) on: Wed Mar 6 06:17:15 EST 2002
dearest & loveable twilight zone,
no one's stopping u from starting a thread like tat, are they? Gowri is of the opinion that IR is the monarch in this area and hence chose to focus her sampling on the cream of the crop.
If u r itching to sample a wider variety, then u shudn't have any scruples in starting a thread like that. ;-)
- From: twilight_zone (@ 202.88.152.159) on: Wed Mar 6 06:34:23 EST 2002
:-)oh no, dear whynot...
Its not about our "noble soul" gowri chosing "the cream of the crop", it just that only IR offers so much variety of emotions to choose from, so much that u can create billion threads that analyze billion factes of his music. When reality is so, why pick on just "eroticism"? Probably it shud be attributed to Gowri's uncontrolleable "itchings" probably :-)))
- From: twilight_zone (@ 202.88.152.159) on: Wed Mar 6 06:52:32 EST 2002
:-) well, where r u whynot? R u dangerously running short of replies? :-))). Get help from Gowri, ROTFL et al, while i wait...
[war is beautiful, ain't it?]
- From: WhyNot (@ 203.24.100.132) on: Wed Mar 6 06:56:21 EST 2002
So what's wrong if Gowri chose to explore this particular facet? Is something unagreeable to you, twilight _zone? Do u have problems talking about sex? Do u feel it's taboo to talk about sex or do u seriously believe that anyone who wishes to discuss it openly needs to be suffering from uncontrollable itchings?
I wud have believed this if it was coming from a baby boomer in his conservative 50s. But I'm shocked to hear such an opinion from a young man in his 20s. :-) I'm not saying everyone here shud bare all and talk about sex openly and unabashedly. But if someone chooses to explore erotica in tfm by a certain composer, I don't see why anyone shud throw stones at her and talk about her personal itchings. That is sooo low. This hypocrisy is what's been baffling me all along in this thread.
As for me running low of replies, dont u know me better vel? :-)
- From: twilight_zone (@ 202.88.152.159) on: Wed Mar 6 07:12:11 EST 2002
dearest whynot,
:-)) u still evading a reply. If Gowri wanted to talk about "eroticism", fine with me. But she talks abt "vulgarity". Still fine with me, but why stoop sooo "low" to pick on ilaiyaraaja? Huh?
And if someone (read:Gowri) decides to focus on "vulgarity" rather than "eroticism", and in doing so, tries to bring down a great living genius too, what else do i term his/her motivations than name it as "uncontrolled itchings" & terribly in "bad taste" ? :-)
[awaiting, your take on this, dearest whynot :-)]
