Kannadasan has used a type of poetry called 'Anthathi' in film songs. Which means the last word of a sentence (Antham) will be the first (Athi) word of the next on.
Here is an example.
this one is from Moondru Mudichu.
Vasantha kala nathikalile vairamani neeralaigal
Neeralaigal meethinile nenjirandin ninaivaligal
Ninaivaligal thodarndu vanthal neramellam kanavalaigal
Kanavaligal malarvatharku Kamanavan malarkanaigal
Malarkanaigal paainthuvittal madi irandum panchanaigal
Panchanail mugam puthaithu sarasamidum puthukkalaigal
Puthukkalaigal peruvatharku poomalai manavinaigal
At this time Kamal falls into the Lake.
Rajni
sings the final part.
Manavinaigal yaarudanoo mayavanin vidhivalaigal
vidhivalaigal mudivu seyyum vasanthakala neeralaigal.
there is another song in the same film
Aadi velli thedi unnai naanadaintha Neram
Which is also an Anthathi.
Vairamuthu can never imagine to write something like this.

Hi guys,
I will digress for a moment. An artiste should grow but once his personality gets limited , the music / poetry coming through him will be limited in the sentiments and subtlety it attempts to express. In that sense, VM though talented has limited his perception whereas KD with his wide range of perception could do justice to expressing sentiments with respect to any facet of life much more convincingly, like that of guy irritated with God (kadavul manithanaaka pirakka vendum, Unnai cholli kutramillai), an individual totally besotted with God (solla solla inikuthadaa), subtle presence of God (Poojiyathile oru rajiyathai) etc, therefore he is definitely the best with unlimited personality.
VM is good though.

I am posting this here since I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the various symposiums.
In a recent interview with Kumudham VM says that he has given up the title kaviyarasar. kannadhasanukkE kaanikkaya kOduththuttaaraam. :). He said that he is also considering taking a break from 'creating'. Oh... app. VM's b'day is being celebrated as kavingargaL thinam. :).

To me, Tamil was made simple by KD. To be frank, I had aversion towards Tamil literature before I heard KD's simple and touching wordings and meanings.. Many to quote.. Whereas VM has lots of limitations.. reserved words are many.. KD is himalaya while VM is St. Thomas Mt in Chennai.

Dear Friends,
My response is that KD is far above Vairamuthu! In fact I can give you two examples for comparing them :
1) Do you remember the song Ilamanadhu Pudhukanavu from "Selvi" written by VM? The incident behind it is very interesting! It seems that there was a jolly deal between IR and VM about spontaneity in music or lyrics!!! They immediately sat and spontaneously IR said "Thanananana Thanananana" for the full pallavi - VM also wrote spontaneously the pallavi! IR continued effortlessly into the saranam while VM staggered and said "I'll go home and get it ready tomorrow"! You call this man a spontaneous!
2)This is another remarkable incident with IR. Kanne Kalaimane was the last song of KD - We know the depth of meaning in that song! But what happened you know - KD was about to board the plane for his treatment abroad and then only IR remembered that he had to write those songs! He immediately called to the airport by phone and hummed the tune - Out came the real Kaviyarasu with Kanne Kalaimane and also 2 other songs(I don't remember, sorry) but they too were great songs!
What I want to say is that this thread is totally unnecessary! Just because VM is called Kavipperarasu it doesn't mean that he is greater! If there is a condition to list three spontaneous artistes in Tamil Cinema, I would say :
1) 'Sivaji' Ganesan
2) Kannadhasan
3) Ilaiyaraaja
The whole world knows that in spite of their speed, their quality was unaffected! But VM is not consistent in quality! So, definitely,
KD>VM! Comments are welcome through mailing to me!
Yours Always,
Vijay.

I remember VM last year gave up his Kaviarasu title bccause he said it belongs to Kannadasan. I was touched by his act and thought his headweight gone. But you why he gave up the above title to become KaviPerarasu. I never seen a ridiculous human being who writes tamglish and nonsense become KP.

This title leaves no room for debate. VM is no where near KD in poetic grace and greatness.
VM may have claimed to have given up the title "Kaviyarasu" but what can we say about the recent "Kaviperarasu" title that is added to his name in every movie????

After using the title "Kaviyarasu" for so many years, he gave up. Real Tamil poet should feel shy to use others.
The following song might have got "Kaviperarasu".
That great Tamil song is,
Shakalaka baby Shakalaka baby
look vidath thonalay?
enna cholnayam, illakiya nayam. Thalai ezuthuda samy.
KD enna, vaaliyoda kooda compare pannath thakuthi illatha indtha thamiz virpannar(tamizai virpathaal) "kavichakaravarthy" endra pattame chootikollalam. Avaruku vendiyavarkal athayum koduppaarkal. Nalla vellai Kampar chethup poyitar.

I don't know what gave people the idea that this is the official Vairamuthu effigy burning site. Let me clarify, it isn't.
If you have anything meaningful to add to the thread (and for this you would need to start with the thread's title and then read all or at least most of what has been written about the topic until now) you would go to the symposium that was spawned from this thread. This symposium discussed this issue at length for 10 separate topics. Of course, that would mean some thought, some time, some interest in the true state of things. It doesn't give you the opportunity to be a gang banger, a rabble-rouser, a net heckler. You probably don't have time for all that, so stop your bashing here. And I call the newtfmpage admins to put this beast out of its misery. Enough already.

I HAVE READ VM'S KAVIDAI'S (NOT THE CINE SONGS
WHICH R NOT GOOD MOST OF THE TIMES) AND IT IS GOOD. I NEVER READ ANY OF KANNADASAN BOOKS.
EVEN THEN HIS(KD'S) CINE SONGS ARE FAR FAR FAR FAAAAR BETTER THAN VM'S KAVIDHAI BOOKS.

there is no point in comparing vm and kd as comparing IR AND ARR,KD kalyana sapadunna VM fast food, but the guy who tries to talk in senthamizh while giving interviews uses english words left and right in his songs, is this not a double game,as rightly said by one of the friend VM is not even capable of coming near vaali, that man is also really good,VM oda thimir adanganumna KD oda "aaru maname aaru andavan kattalai' aaru patte keka sollunga,
