Guys & gals, I have already put this stuff in one of the therads. But, owing to the poor response, I am starting it as a topic. I am sure if some of us get together, we can sponsor an album of say, IR's great BGM pieces or something like that. I really miss listening to them. I am sure we could raise the funds over a period of time.
Interested people, please respond in this thread. We will have to plan out the details also.

the peak of song interludes was to the peak in the song 'mannan koorai chelai' from the tamil version of 'kaala pani'. the heroine receives a letter about the release of her husband, mohanlal, from jail after about 2 years, i believe. on knowing the release she goes into jouyous moment. this is the stuation. even without the background situation, on hearing the song one can feel the rich source of joy that is being emulated from IR's flute and also the the violin which joins later thus leading to the song.
it makes one horripilate when u listen to the starting piece and also to the first interlude. this is the class of IR. infact the BGM for the film also considered the best by music lovers. the real surround effect.

Desikan : You are very right! The prelude to that song is superb. I could not think of anything but nostalgia, on hearing the piece. In fact, I could imagine the scene even before I watched the film.
There is also one peculiar instrument that comes immediately after the flute recital, that reminds me of the onset of spring. Excellent piece of work by our maestro.
Also, if you have noticed in the second interlude, there is a nice chorus that again reminds me of green fields and spring.
See, IR is the only composer who can communicate feelings straight to the heart!

talking about BGM, why's no one mentioning Aboorva Sagotharargal? its BGM was simply mind-blowing. especially the scene leading upto nagesh pouring a potent mixture of arali and aamanakkennai down srividya's throat. i saw the movie 7 times in devi paradise and ganapathyram just for that one sequence.
another all-time great BGM is nayagan. mahanadhi and sati leelavathi also had excellent BGMs, especially the guitar pieces in the latter.
but of course, raja is king of BGM, so one can go on and on and on....

Recently I saw "Aarilirunthu arubadhu varai"...The BGM in this film is certainly a prelude to "Nothing but Wind".

The BGM for "Aarilirundhu arubadhu varai" is a prelude to "How to name it?"

Hi,
How about creating a web site for the the maestro like 'www.ilaiyaraaja.com'(note the spelling). We can all put in some money and do it. What say?

kaushik,
i agree with you.. the main priority should be background music.. i for one think IR's bgm is of higher quality than his songs.. another is that bgm is not available while the songs are, even if the recording quality isnt good..

Hi Balaji,
I had visited all the above mentioned sites. Thanks.
What I wanted was a site(server) dedicated for Ilaiyaraaja and not pages on some 'free' web page hosting service(with all the popup ads).

Guys,
I appreciate all the good work that is going to this nice project. I will contribute whatever is needed.
Re, BGM. The other day I was watching parts of moonRAm pirai. Couple of scenes got etched in my mind due to the excellent BGM.
When Silk takes a lonely walk in the woods in the morning (With I guess viraga thAbam), IR starts a nice, kind of mellowy and introspective music , lots of violins..and then she see Kamal coming down the woods, and probably she realizes her passion for him, here IR picks up the mood and the lead violin rises up and above in its speed and tempo clearly showing silk's joyous identification of who/what she wants. This killed me.
Another scene, where Kamal goes around searching for Sridevi (after the ink bottle mess, he shouts at her etc) and there is this music ,a predominant lead violin playing a heart rending tune with a backdrop of group of violins, portrays the remorse/guilt of Kamal poetically.

Hi
I've compiled all of the suggestions in this discussion on the input for the album, including- interludes, BGM scores, suggested instrumental versions - etc. They've been put together in one page, which you can find at
http://members.tripod.com/~suresh98/IRC/thoughts.html
The lists are updated until 15/10, upto the previous posting by Gokul. I'll try to do a weekly update of this. I'm also working on updating the marketing plan, which should be fairly soon..

suresh,
i can't help but appreciate u'r diligence and promptness in getting the work done. okay now fill in the blanks. the song 'engum niraindha'in u'r list is from the film 'idhu eppadi irukku'.
also suresh, is it too early for us to decide how to sequence the songs in a proper manner on the CD ?

suresh, good work.
i am now not sure if new films like kalapani should be added to the project.kalapani has been made in dolby technology and the instant need to remaster/instumentalize is not there.

I agree with Shibu. Isn't that a nice idea to have a clean, dedicated page for IR.
What are the prerequisites, Shibu.

It was surprsing to see/hear a song based on IR's BGM (the love theme music for nagarjuna & Amala... more clear/lengthy in the end titles... from the movie Shiva, telugu or udayam in tamil) in an yet to be named new telugu movie, sung by SPB ..... I doubt if it's an IR movie. I mean to say, this project should be speeded up otherwise these ideas would be of great use/help to the upcoming/copycat MDs.
there goes the whisper..."it's not a surprise....."

on: Mon Nov 2 15:32:26 EST 1998
Oh No Pinchi,
This is certainly "heart-breaking" news. I hate to see some leper MD spoiling this GEM of a piece by converting it into a song!!! Huh!
This is the tragedy with IR's works. Lesser MDs pilfer on them and cnovert them into mediocre ones ;-((.
I only hope (and pray) that Raja's sypmphony is not infringed upon in a similar way.

hi Guys,
I am happy to be back discussing our 'labor of love' after some vacation in India.
I got an email from Kaushik waking me up from my stupor and was glad to see Suresh keeping the web pages updated.
It looks like we have enough material to start work on a series be it BGM, songs or the instrumentals.
I think its high time we start getting into the action. I will try to contact Oriental Records and see what kind of tapes they have for the movies listed. IR says that for BGMs the composer has the copyrights. In which case, Oriental Records may have the tapes only for the songs. Still I think it would be a good idea to talk to them first .
Meanwhile whoever contributed for the BGM collection, could you all please find out how long each piece is going to be ??
Will talk to you guys soon.
Regards,
- kiruba
