i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.

Also i have the doubts about 'Kadhal Ennum Koil' Sung by Kovai Murali (Soolamangalm's Son) in Kazhugu. It is from an outside source.
If you listen to the song 'Aadi velli' from Moondru mudichu,It will remind you of lot of IR's songs with the same base (his stock base as well).Just for the records this movie came before Annakili.
IR's TMS-LRE duet from Nallathoru Kudumbam has a clear Cha-Cha-Cha.At that time Shalimar (Hindi)had a similar cha-cha-cha song.

1. enna vilai azage (kadhalar dhinam) is more like "thangga padhakkaththin mele" (don't know which film).
2. chillena chillena (rasigan) - dil ke jharokon mein (brahmachari)

O IS G,
Good work . i would like a favour, you had mentioned MSV's OLi pirantha poothu mannil i dcan't remember the tune. can you refresh me as to which film, singer(s) etc. I agree that Bharadwaj & VS seem to show some promise. Okay if the song is simple, uncluttered & melodious it is fine even if it is inspired but only if it comes to pretending" that my music comes straight from up there or I am the whole sole custodian of music one gets irritated." This is done partly by IR & mostly by his fans- a really obnoxious lot.

If IR had claimed to be sole custodian of music, how come he composed with MSV a couple of films?
Is ARR a cool guy with no arrogance? You can't ger ARR for composing unless you are some big shot. On the other hand right from the beginning, IR has been associated with very odinary directors, and lyricists but still produced great music.
You may judge for yourself who is less egoistic?

cheenu,
the world is small but not as small as you make out to be.it does not follow that if u criticize IR u are an ARR camp follower. At the cost of repeating myself, the point is about discussing music.IR has colloborated with MSV that was when MSV well past prime.( more as a brownie point). But when IR was ruling the waves , he had said lot of uncharitable things about his predecessors both in print & other interviews. Most of the blame should go to the hangerons but some should also be borne by the man. he has given great music his output in terms of quality & quantity is very good but please please don't think that he is the only MD around & others were/ are all kuppai. That is the only grouse i have against IR fans. Visu ramu melodies are the foundation of Tamil popular film music & KVm scores have a significant role in TFM history. IR is being overrated today & it should not end up in his being underrated tomorrow (just as it seems to be happening to Visu-ramu)

Oli Pirantha Pothu is from Nam Naadu ,I think.
Now talking about IR's contribution to TFM it is WCM at its best and not the Gramiya Tunes. His Gramiya tunes and mellisai created worms like Mike Mohan,P Vasu etc.His Western Classical know-how gets exhibited in Nizhalgal,Monram pirai(Starts when Kamal starts for the Station) and songs like Oru Naal (Uravadum Nenjam).Poongatheve Thhalthiravai is till date the best fusion attempt by an Indian(that includes LSubramanian). But you notice a distinct decline in his quality after the success of Payanangal mudivathillai. All R Sundar Rajan movies had stero-typed songs.IR moved into mass production and quality was the casualty.the Jalras grew in number and Chinc-Chuk was the only sound that was coming from his camp. But if you see the positive side of this,he grew in confidence and was sure that whatever would come from him will be accepted. So his music became more original. So if you see the complaints about his copied songs, the songs would date prior to Payanangal mudivathialli days.
In the process he forgot his roots which is WCM.Hence the quality suffered. There was no one to challenge him in TFM and no one to give a story line which would test his skills. His How-to-name-it was again a half-hearted attempt to trace his roots back.IR would have hit the world screen had he attempted it in and around 1980-81.
Coming to his fans sorry Talifans, they never got to know the glory of TFM.Similar situations exist for the Northern Indians for whom the history starts from 1526.North Indians of today do not know about the Guptas,Cholas and Pandyas and the glory of that period. They are proud of their ignorance so are IR Fans.In a desparate situation during the freedom struggle even Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last mogul was seen as a rallying point.IR fans attempt it with films like Poovarasan! to prop him up.

I have been wondering this for some time..
There was thing old (1980s) song where there's this music bit copied from MJ's Billy Jean. It has kamal dancing to it. I've no idea who the MD is, what the song title is nor what movie it is.
Anyone who knows here?

Saw recently the movie Eni padigal(Shobha ,Sivakumar).Manorama sings a song ( during a conversation with Kavarchi Villain Kannan) during which she will recall that as a great song of yester years. The tune is exactly the same as
1.Padgottum Pattamma - IR ( Prabhu with the 'Loose' Kasturi)
2.Saiyya oh - ARR (Nayak - the Real Hero). Can anyone identify the song? By logic it should be a Telugu old song as Eni padigal was a telugu remake and KVM scored the same tunes in both languages.
The song 'Whynot'is looking for may be from 'Mangamma Sabatham' or 'Maria My Darling'(Both Kamal movies with Kamal dances and music is by Shankar-Ganesh)Let me hear Billy Jean once and confirm.

Karthik
If you are still looking for Thanagangale song the details are
Movie : ennai pol oruvan (Sivaji Double Role)
Released in 1979 (late by 3 years production stopped in between, emergency etc)
MD : MS Viswanathan Lyric: Kannadasan.Watch Sivaji's Hip-up dance.A very good song !
Another song in this movie is in the raga Madhyamavathi ' Velale Vizhigal'.If TMS had reduced the decip 'aagaya Ganagai' (MV,SJ /IR) would have resulted.Particularly the pallavi.
Any findings on 'Nallarogal Vazhavai' Sangili(MSV).

Thangangale is an improvised version of ' Sudanthira Boomiyil ' from Dharmam Enge?(MSV)!
If you could manage the TMS-PS Duet in this movie you can feel the similarity in the charanams with an IR song. The song i think is 'Ramanukke Seethai'(Deepan,SJ/Rani Theni/Deepan played the hero in the movie).

and
2) koththavaal chaavadi lady nee koyambaedu vaadi
by Deva&Co. for Ramki(?) From ??

O IS G, I'll be grateful if u can track down the song for me.
- From: O_IS_G (@ 217.17.235.2) on: Thu Dec 13 04:10:44 EST 2001
why not
The song you are looking for might be
'Sorgathin Vasal Enge'XXXXXX Enge?Ahaha! ohoho!'
It is from Mangamma Sabatham *in Kamal.Usual masala type movie it was.(MD:Shankar-Ganesh).There is an older Managamma Sabatham also (Ranjan and Vasundara Devi which has the famous Dialog symbolising the Iyer Domination on TF during those days.'Eva Thattina Ava Varuva') .However Engamma Sabatham (Jayachitra, sivakumar -MD vijayaBhaskar) has a great song.(anbu Megame,Engu oodi vaa).Managamma,Engamma i am sounding Visu ish!
Maria My Darling has the song with the film name and a Kamal(own voice ) song with lyrics ' Ennattam Rasigan Kidayathu'.
- From: eden (@ 210.214.4.217) on: Thu Dec 13 04:12:45 EST 2001
`sorgathin vAsal ingE, sollAmal kaNgaL angE, pakkam thAn dhooram illai... ohohOh..ahahaA...mhmhm...' (SPB-VJ-SG combo I think...or is it Bappi Lahiri) is the song inspired by Billie Jean. (I forgot the name of the movie though, is it pAdum vAnambAdi or apoorvasahodharigal?)
- From: e (@ 210.214.4.217) on: Thu Dec 13 04:15:39 EST 2001
oops, O IS G overtook me by a couple of minutes:-)
- From: O_IS_G (@ 217.17.235.2) on: Thu Dec 13 04:29:07 EST 2001
That was close indeed!
Can any one figure out Shankar Ganesh's 'Laxmi Vanthal,Maharnai Pol' from Panam pen Pasam.Pancham fans may see a 'Thum Aagaye Tho'.But i am looking beyond Pancham for the original!
Kupps,i think you need to approach FN Anandan only. There were lot of movies (incl the Telugu Remake movies) where Thangavelu played the side kick and invariably SCK was the singer.Occasionally Seergazhi used to sing.
- From: O_IS_G (@ 217.17.235.2) on: Thu Dec 13 04:36:07 EST 2001
Kalyanji Anandji had something closer 'Laila Oh Laila'.SG used this tune frequently during 1979-1982.
Any clues on Aayiram malrgale Malarungal(niram Maratha pookal),Poovarasam poo poothachu/Aasaya kaathula thoothu vittu,Kadhal Ennum koil(Kazhugu)?
- From: Kupps (@ 156.153.255.126) on: Thu Dec 13 04:44:38 EST 2001
OISG, thanks.
but my intension in that post was to point the stricking similarity in both of the songs atleast upto what I have posted.
- From: WhyNot (@ 203.24.100.133) on: Thu Dec 13 04:47:24 EST 2001
O IS G and eden, thx for the info.
Now tat can go down as another 'copied' song, I guess. :-)
- From: O_IS_G (@ 217.17.235.2) on: Thu Dec 13 04:48:52 EST 2001
SG are Deva's thatha in copying. For the movie Nakshthiram (Telugu Sivaranjani :MD Ramesh Naidu)
the copied the song 'Aval Oru menagai'.But virtually took a copy right for the song by repeating it as
Ambigaye unnai Nambivanthaen (Oli Piranthathu)
Nayagiye varuga (Some Suman movie, you can notice SPB's sruthi pisagal in this song)
You can forgive SG for just one song.Hope that is original.Unnai Naan paarthathu (Pattikattu Raja).Easily the best Stage song.I am sure AV Ramanan will vouch for that.

Well, this is an interesting one. for those who have seen Nandha, there is one scene where one of the refugess complains to RajKiran that they have been left stranded in the middle and they show the long line of refugees in the distance. In the scene immediately following that..listen to the BGM carefully..its a complete flick from the Gladiator soundtrack..:-)
the scene where Russel Crowe cries after seeing his wife and son dead, there is a solo humming in the background..YSR has flicked it and used it ina couple of scenes in the earlier part of the film..I have mentioned one and I dont remember right now the other one..
But overall YSR has done a good job in Nandha..
